IIRC, contracts from both teams that are over the salary cap(NOT Lux tax level, salary cap) in a trade must match +/- 125% + 100,000 Here is a relatively simple way to educate yourself http://members.cox.net/lmcoon/salarycap.htm
I don't know why, but I have a feeling that Morey will once again work his magic and pull off something major this summer.....About Agent 0, I don't know why people don't like him, but the guy can light it up on any given night, and can drive to the basket...Caron Butler can also ball, and he is the one guy who I want morey to acquire this summer more than anybody else. I'm not so sure about Maggette
Maggette just doesn't seem like the right piece here. Caron's game is more suited for us, he'd be a good fit. Agent 0? Gilbert writes great blogs, but until he's healthy and can play healthy for a length of time, I can't really buy into him. And his contract? Forget about it.
He's a phenomenal scorer, but like McGrady and Iverson, he kills a team offense concept, ESPECIALLY when he's at the 1. The Wizards have never gone anywhere because they can only play isoball.
They have never gone anywhere because of Defense IMO. If I were them I would be calling JVG all night and day and night and day
Les already mentioned he will only pay the luxious tax for dramatic improvement. I will do: Nash+Amare for Tracy+Brooks+landry (not scola) I will do it in a heart beat but more likely daydreaming: Tracy+Brooks+Lowry+landry+2010&2012 1st round picks+cash+fillers for Peja+Chandler+Posey+CHRIS PAUL Well, don't think hornets is that desperate. Even if they are, can we beat other teams offer? Are Les that committed? Just dreaming.
if NO decides to let CP go just to shed peja/posey/chandler, he's still not the perfect fit for the rockets UNLESS you let go of Yao. CP works well with athletic bigs with good hands. That's not Yao. Rockets wont pick up Chandler as well because he has a toe problem that will never ever go away. Now, you have two centers with foot problems. talk about shooting yourself in the foot. nash + amare to houston? phoenix may be losing money, but no way they give up both talents. it's either amare or shaq and fillers. quality PGs are a premium in the league. im sure they'd be willing to let go of amare only if they get Brooks/Lowry in the deal. no way Steve Kerr gives away Nash. even with Amare down, Nash played great along with Shaq. seems to me that DM would be going with european players for FA signing. he would probably be looking for a big and a project PG. i also have a strong feeling that he would only trade Tmac for a wing/go to guy with a serviceable contract that's past 2010 hoping that by the time that guy's contract expires, the salary cap will be bigger allowing the rockets to sign big names beyond 2010. so far, im willing to trade landry + SnT wafer for a charlie V. if they can sessions itll be a steal. you get a long 4 that can shoot the 3 and a PG that could really light it up. we still have James white to replace Von. charlie v's gonna walk so they need to SnT and they get a cheap but effective, aggressive PF to play alongside Bogut. also, based on another thread, id be willing to get ray allen even if it costs us ron artest especially if we're trading away Tmac. allen will fill tmac's void, and battier would be our perimeter defender and james white will probably be developed in the same mold. tmac + brooks + cook can be used to get amare + barbosa + filler. phoenix will do it primarily for brooks but they get to test tmac in the process. if they can fix grant hill and shaq, they can fix tmac. they can then probably trade richardson for a young PF and a young wing. lowry / european PG (and sessions if we're lucky) allen / barbosa battier / james white amare / scola yao / charlie v / euro center / dorsey (if he's still here) allen can play slow and can run in adelman's system. charlie v can play that high post adelman would want. same for amare. barbosa would bring that grit we lose by letting go of ron. we can probably bring in newley as 3rd string SG.
Given Yao's propensity to be rendered totally ineffective, his injury history, his overall inability to consistently make plays in the clutch, and simply the overwhelming body of argument that points toward the conclusion of his incapability to carry a "title" team, NOT trading for the best point guard since magic johnson, in the event that to do so is possible, on the basis of an incompatibility with Yao's strengths/weaknesses is quite possibly the dumbest thing Daryl Morey could do. Sorry but, relatively speaking, Yao has so many flaws for a "francise player" that we need to be targeting as many players that can thrive despite them as possible.
The best fit PG to YAO, in my opinion, is Billups, followed by Deron Williams. The problem with this rocket roster, is that we don't have a playmaker who can carry the O when YAO is not performing (injured or fronted). CP3 is certainly the best playmaker in this league. In my assumption, I am treating Chandler/Peja/Posey as pure bad contracts. In reality, each of them still has some gas in the tank, just being very much overpaid. Chandler can do more than a back up C. Peja is a threat behind the ARC. Posey can still defend and put in some 3s, from time to time. CP3 single handedly carried the Hornets to the play-off with Chandler/Peja/West/Posey and some role players. Imagine you add Yao/Scola/Ron/Battier/Landry/Von/ to the Hornets. Well, I am dreaming again.
No point guard is going to make Yao better. He is, what he is. He still will be neutralized by fronting, he still will have no ups for lobs, he still will have terrible lateral movement, he still will have bad hands.
any thoughts on the bulls? they have a lot of young talent and im sure theyd want as much cap space as possible for 2010. i believe theyll have some cap space but more wouldnt hurt... not sure about some of the salaries but atleast their pieces are still young when compared to a camby/b diddy and nash/??? luol deng, ben gordon, hinrich, noah, nocioni, etc... ???
We really only need two things: -Another legit 7 footer that can guard the paint and rebound. Morey pretty much said in an interview yesterday that they are going to sit Yao for certain periods next season. So we need someone to hold the fort while he rests. I think the thrashing we took on the boards in game seven in enough evidence that we need more size. -One player that is able to get his shot off. Wafer and Brooks are good but they still struggle to get their shots off and we still went through long scoring droughts. We are a contending team. The last few tweaks we need to make are the ones necessary to get past the Lakers next season.
I don't think so. Chris Paul just dances his way into the paint. Do you think Chandler gets all those dunks by himself? He gets the ball wide open and jams it. Even if Yao needs to gather, Yao with the ball deep in the paint is usually a great thing. Paul forces opponents to commit and he exploits them. We have the perfect team for that. Front Yao and Paul has an open paint. Help off Battier and we have 3-ball corner pocket. Double in the paint and either Scola or Yao are open. Pick and rolls with Scola would be beautiful. Are you telling me you have never seen Yao open in the paint only to have the Rockets ignore him or throw a bad pass? Do you know how good Paul is? Trust me, Paul (along with a summer's full of rest) will unlock beast Yao. The easy buckets he will create for Yao will decrease the amount of posting Yao needs, thus will decrease the wear and tear on Yao's body. You go all in for Paul. -V
If you are going to dream, might as well dream RED. If Hornets and Suns are serious about cutting cost, and Les is serious about paying Lux tax for the right player/s, then let's go for both Amare and Paul. Rockets trade- Tmac, Brooks, Landry, Cook, Barry, Dorsey + 2010 & 2012 1st round pick & cash Rockets receive- Paul, Amare, Peja, Posey Reason- ummmm.... yeah. We are going to be over the Salary cap big time. You know what, Paul is the guy you pay luxury tax for. We won't have first round picks for a while. This will be a huge financial commitment and if this team fails we are stuck with a bunch of bloated contracts. Now for the positives- Yao/Amare Amare/Scola/Hayes Battier/Peja/Wafer Artest/Posey/Wafer Paul/Lowry Paul will have so many weapons at his disposal. Amare will still have an elite pg that is so crucial to his game. I think Paul will unlock Beast Yao. Battier can just be Mr. Intangible. Artest can refocus on defense and not worry about scoring. Posey adds defensive presence in the second unit. They can fly with Wafer/Posey/Lowry/Amare. Scola will dominate off the bench against opposing second units. Peja gives us a 3 ball specialist. Why win now when you can dominate now? Hornets trade- Paul, Peja, Posey, Chandler Hornets receive- Tmac, Brooks, Cook, Barry, Dorsey + 2010 1st Round pick & cash Reason- They shed about 3-4 million immediately, and Tmac, Cook and Barry are all expiring contracts. They will shed over 20 million next year. It allows them to evaluate the future of their franchise while not increasing their debt. They get a young point in Brooks who will only make 5 million over the next 4 years. Dorsey has a team option next year and allows the Hornets to develop a young big man or drop him without paying much. Young guys like Marks and Wright have a chance to develop. They also receive a pick and cash considerations. Other teams (like Dallas) can offer maybe an additional 5 million cap relief immediately but not the young talent we can. The teams that can offer young talent (Portland) don't have the caliber of expiring contracts we do to take on the Hornet's bad contracts (Tmac is the largest expiring contract next year). We maybe the best balance of cap relief and young talent in the League and we have a recent history of dealing with the Hornets (Synder, Jackson, ect.). Suns trade- Amare Suns receive- Chandler, Landry + 2012 1st Round pick & cash Reason- Amare and the Suns need to part ways. The Suns demonstrated that they aren't interested in simply dumping salary when they held on to him at the deadline. They shed 3 million immediately with this trade and basically replace Amare with Chandler. Landry gives them a solid young prospect that will provide depth in the front court. When Chandler slides over to the 5 and Landry plays the 4, the Suns can continue their run and gun style. Shaq and Chandler are a solid defensive combo. They also receive a pick and cash considerations. This helps money wise and also makes sense basketball wise, especially if they are serious about resigning Nash.
