We eat a lot of fresh fruit and veggies. We compost the waste and store it in a supposedly air-tight container. However, we are busy and don't get everything put away every day and don't even always get the top on properly in the rush to not be late in the mornings. I've had everything put away for a couple of days and there is still a small swarm of fruit flies in that corner of the kitchen. Does anyone have any handy deterrents or solutions for this problem... besides slam-dunk housekeeping!
Get some water and some dish washing soap just a little bit and start spraying around the area...we used to use that at the bar as well as amonia based cleaners and water ( a bit more harsh..we used that near the drains)
i had this same problem, 1) use a dry jar without a lid, make sure its completely dry and doesn't smell 2) put vinegar or something in there that would attract fruit flies, maybe a piece of your compost 3) put plastic wrap on the jar. 4) poke a couple of holes the size of a fruit fly into the plastic wrap 5) wait. flies go in, but dont know how to get out.
