Great poll! Too bad we couldn't pick more than one of those choices. Had to pick techno... because I just don't see anything "musical" about it, or even fun. Guess you have to have taken the right drugs. New rap-metal comes in a close second... I don't mind the idea of rap-metal, but most of the songs these days have hateful and destructive themes as well as lacking in musical elements. Don't see what's so great about boy bands, but they don't drive me totally nuts either... just kind of bland. (us ladies realize that if we were still ten years old we would have huge crushes on them, even though they don't seem like a big deal now) Pop-punk I actually sort of like. At least it can be fun and upbeat.
Well, the worst of the new is the pop metal (you forgot Linkin Park in there). I love Green Day, so thats out. BTW, if we were doing all music in general, it would have to be hip-hop/rap/anything you want to call it.
I like Green Day, but absolutely with a passion hate Blink 182. I like Godsmack(they are not rap metal), but don't really like Limp Bizkit. Boy bands suck, but I can actually stand them more so than Blink 182. I like Techno in moderation and only when I am in the mood. My roommate likes many varieties of music, but he only ever seems to play techno. It gets quite annoying because many of the songs sound too similar with a cool trance beat and some trick doing her best to imitate Sade. All of that being said, I think I just really hate Blink 182.
I agree with Manny, i would rather listen to techno than country, and i like blink 182 there my favorite band, godsmack and limpo bizkit are annoying. Boy bands have always sucks. But my vote goes to techno since country isnt a option.
I voted for the boy bands, they are atrocious. But on a side note Drewdog, Godsmack is not "Rap-Metal" by any stretch of the imagination. Linkin Park and Limp Bizkit definitley, but not Godsmack. To me they are close to a cross between Alice In Chains and STP.
Rap metal was created by a 63 year old music exec. while using aluminum foil- hmmmmm metal wrap hmmmmm wrap metal! 182's music is weak but at least they make some fun of themselves while raking in the kiddies dough- Chemical Bros and Big beat techno is quality stuff but house, trance all that ultra fast beat - ug -
I hate the Creed genre of music. No, wait. I just hate Creed. Ranked In Order of Suckiness (from SUCK to NON-SUCK): 1. Boy bands 2. New Rap Metal 3. Pop punk 4. Techno I'll put words in Manny's mouth and agree that "Techno kicks major ass!"
As VecseySux pointed out, techno is one of my favorite genres. I made the comment that I did about it because I can see how people may not like it due to the repetitiveness of the beats and the lack of lyrics. However, I love bass to be pounding and have never been one to get into lyrics. As for country, it seems like every song is about someone doing someone else wrong type of song....(Hey, that was a B.J. Thomas song, wasn't it?)
Probably because that stereotype was true years and years ago, and you haven't listened nearly enough recently to note the difference. Out of the top 13 songs on the latest Billboard survey, only two even debatably have that type of concept. I dislike the type of country that you referred to as much as most. However, the country on the airwaves today does not fit that stereotype, and it's extremely annoying to see people dismiss it because of the negatives of ten or twenty years ago.
I guess I should have been more specific about the categories and included an "other" category. Rap Metal is the same thing to me as new metal, annoying metal, lets steal another riff from Metallica metal, lets try and be really scary by writing controversial lyrics metal, lets jump around and look like idiots metal, lets all jump on the bandwagon and sound the same metal. The bottom line is that this new wave metal "music" sucks. Listen to some old Pumpkins because it rocks harder than any of that dropped "D" tuning power cord that my 8 year old cousin could play on the guitar **** !!
Well, Cat, stereotypes exist in other genres of music. Nothing pisses me off more than for people to think that all electronic/techno music is like Fatboy Slim, Moby, or Paul Oakenfold. Hell, none of those 3 artists sound alike. If people would just listen to artists like: Aphex Twin - IDM DJ Shadow - downtempo Portishead - also downtempo but more trip-hop Chemical Brothers - big beat Orbital - classic techno The Orb - ambient Aphrodite - drum 'n' bass Robert Miles - trance They would see a big difference in each one of these artists, and for the 5 people that voted techno as their least favorite, they may have very well had the same bias towards it that I have towards country. For the record, I was exaggerating and I do have several country CDs like Faith Hill and Shania Twain. However, it is something that I can't get into despite the new stuff that has come out.
99.9% of the cookie-cutter glam-pop country music produced in Nash-vegas today completely, totally, unbelievably sucks. Gimme Junior Brown, Slaid Cleeves, Hank III, Jack Ingram, Mike Barfield etc... over Brooks & Dunn & their ilk any day.
I agree.... If ya don't like it, don't listen and don't hate. I'm a Hip Hop head but I also dig "electronica" Dj Shadow and Trip Hop is some cool stuff. I went to the Blink, Green Day, Jimmy Eat...something show. Green Day rocked and the lead guitar guy gave away a guitar to a dude in the crowd, thats pretty cool.
Its Jimmy Eat World. I like Green Day, but don't like Blink or Jimmy Eat World. Green Day's first CD is their best, though.
