Zaza is a UFA,Gortat is a RFA. Both would be good additions to the team.

Ah right. The synopsis of the interview didn't make that clear. I didn't think Rockets had any until I read that.

Yes, I assume DM may be able to acquire one in a trade deal.

    On Tracy McGrady:

See this is what I don't understand. Why not? What do we have to lose if we roll the dice one last time on McGrady? You combine the fact that he just saw this Rockets team play with a lot of success without him, and the fact that he's in a contract year, and he may well be extra motivated to rehab and get back into form.

If it doesn't work out, worst case scenario is that we either dump him right before the trade deadline, or the team keeps his contract for itself and lets it come off of their own books.

I mean if we can really make a clear improvement by trading McGrady right now, I wouldn't be opposed to it, but I think it would be stupid to take a big risk with a McGrady trade, like trading him for Vince Carter or something.

First of all, please note that I have always respected you DD. And the fact that I clicked into one of these grotesquely redundant threads proves that. And not only that, I replied to it as well. :p

To #1. What the heck? Nobody would sign and trade for a volatile guy like Ron Artest. No one would be dumb enough to sign and trade for this guy when the market is this tight. With no free agent money flowing, it would be us or nobody for Ron Artest. We've seen and heard reports of a 37MIL deal/4 years offered by Morey. And I even think that would be too much for this guy in this market. Unless it has got a fourth year team option.

and #2. What difference does it make if his contract is traded before or during the season? Please enlighten me on that one. Because from my knowledge, it is the exact opposite. TMAC's contract would be most valuable to us as well as to the other team during mid-season due to the following reasons: i. we'll get a better gauge on whether tmac would be useful to us as a player (though unlikely, he might still got some game left); ii. same logic goes to the other team, if they're giving up someone (who's valuable in our perspective, not some trash like Richard jefferson or whoever possessing a horrible contract with little talent), then they would usually want to look at their own situation after the season have unfolded(remember Pau Gasol) and decide then. So if we're getting Steve Nash with TMAC, lets say, then I would assume the suns would want to see if they're a failure this season and beyond before deciding trading the face of their franchise. iii. tmac's 24MIL contract means that our trading partner would be paying less if he's traded at the deadline because of the pro-rated basis of contracts.

and#3. only comment. LMAO. Von better than Ron? Morey won't retain these type of players for over 2MIL per. swingmen are a dime a dozen.

Haha sorry if i wounded harsh. just stating the truth....

Exactly. Unless the Rockets get a steal of a trade, or can really get some young potential star, you don't trade McGrady yet. You wait, let him have one more shot, then either move him at the deadline, or hold on to him for the big bucks to come off your books.

I'm not even so sure he doesn't play decently enough to warrant him being a Rocket, but at a much reduced contract, although that is a long shot. I mean, what if he plays pretty well next year in the flow of the offense, gives you a guy that has single big game potential and is willing to be a good team mate. Then what if he says he'll resign for $7-8 million a year?
