See but if we have a 2-3 year window anyway, isn't it better to hang on to our young guys? Just incase this Tmac-Yao-Artest thing doesn't work, at least when the old players are gone we have some Decent players to draft around. Thats why I called Brooks and Landry transitional pieces. That's the exact same reason the Lakers didn't want to trade Bynum, because when Kobe and crew leave they still want to have at least some decent players to draft around.
oops, revealed your age a little bit, didn't you? anyway, my argument with you is now over. i've heard everything i possibly could hear from you, i guess. you don't like the trade idea, that's fine with me. this thread was just meant to be a little offseason fun anyway.
That usually means you're gonna ignore data and that therefore the argument is over, so I'll leave it at that.
I think not knowing who was in the Shaq trade and that Caron Butler was considered a can't miss prospect revealed his age
It didn't reveal my age at all, I could be talking about a wife you know. Because see if a game is on TV...i'll watch it...then everything comes 2nd to bball while i'm watching it. Its offseason fun but the point is to debate on these things so I don't care if people agree or not.
Except I didn't ignore the numbers, and every real Basketball fan knows Numbers only tell you so much. Why do you think Morey has the moneyball thing? Just looking at who averages what doesn't make someone a better player than someone else.
I forgot to comment on that. Butler was a can't miss prospect but the Lakers basically treated him as a bench warmer and traded him for Kwame Brown. Not only that when the HEat made that trade they were considered favorites and the Lakers were considered losers in the deal. The Lakers put their money into Odom being the Scottie Pippen to Kobe. That's what they literally called him, they soon found out Odom isn't good enough to be 2nd fiddle just like the Heat did.
A lot of times the top offensive "All-Star" type players are also top defensive players (Howard, Bryant, LeBron, Paul, Garnett, etc.) but they get all the hype from highlight dunks and no-look passes. While it's not always front and center, the defense is there and it helps them get selected. That might be true for most teams, but...uhh...what does that have to do with Artest and Pierce? Ron is a better defender, but Pierce is very good as well. What's for sure is that the difference between the two on that side of the ball is far less than on the other. For example, Paul Pierce is one of the top guys I want to have the ball in the closing seconds when my team needs a bucket. On the contrary, I often pray for Ron to pass the ball to a teammate during regular possessions! Only when it's convenient, right?
Steve Nash would be an upgrade over T-Mac at this point so I would be okay with this trade even if we have give away Aaron. For any other trade involving Aaron, I would be hesitant. I wonder if we could do following trade: Phoenix gets: T-Mac, Aaron Brooks Houston gets: Steve Nash, Barbosa, Artest (we make them sign Artest and trade with us this way we don't have to spend extra money for Artest)
Only when it's convenient, right? [/QUOTE] 1.) The point is, All-star appearances doesn't make someone better than someone else. Especially since Ron has had as much team success has Pierce had before Allen and KG. Hell Artest did everything he could with that Kings team and had them as a 8th seed didn't he? 2.) I just mentioned it. No big deal. 3.) Well I agree but i'd rather have Artest on the floor for defense. Pierce wasn't a surefire HOFamer before the championship, not even close. All he had was all-star appearances while Artest had a major award. Artest would have been on more teams had he not destroyed them himself. 4.) I actually found out Nash was 35 from a post in the thread, in my first post all I said was he was over 30.
Yeah and he should go back and read articles AFTER the trade about how the Heat were contenders with Shaq and Wade...while Butler was traded for Kwame Brown.
If we can get Nash...it's a guaranteed Championship!!! Are you kiddin' me?? Aaron Brooks have nothing compare to Steve Nash. Nash would not have low IQ like Brooks. Nash run the offense better and not turnover time after time like Brooks. Trade Tmac + Brooks FOR Steve Nash and we give go to Championship games every year. Nash still have many years left...it's enough to get multiple Championship. People u guys dont' understand. We already have a Championship team but with Nash as the QB instead of Aaron, this team basically has a Dirk Nowiski in the game with automatic shots.
Are you kiddin' me?? Why sun want Tmac?? Nash is also last year contract... Sun can ask better offer from other teams...
See but it's not a guaranteed championship. We're really ignoring other teams, it improves our chances but if it fails as it stands now the team will have nothing left. But most agree, this team as it is is a championship team. Brooks can only get better, even if it is marginally better he can only go up as this was his first year starting and he barely played his rookie season. I'm not down for trading Brooks, everyone is downplaying his playoff performances but the playoffs are the real deal and what he did was pretty amazing. I'm not so quick to just throw that away for a guy who could decline any season now.

I don't either. I'm not opposed to other trades, i'm just opposed to Nash-Tmac/Brooks. Never did I say Nash wouldn't make us better, I just don't want to be the team who didn' win the championship and then have nothing left. Once that happens rebuilding is LONG and HARD when you have no decent players. Brooks is decent and so is Landry. If we're going to trade them we should get decent young guys back. Scola is around 30 yrs old too, he took too long to come to the NBA. Lowry I love the guy and I also wouldn't want to trade him and Tmac for Nash only because that means Brooks and Nash...playing defense all night...not good if you ask me sinc eLowry is a VERY GOOD defender. The player i'm more interested in from the Suns is Amare.
Unless you think Brooks will eventually be better than Lowry, if Phoenix is actually willing to do a trade that centered around Nash for Brooks/McGrady, it's hard to imagine why we wouldn't do it. Remember, Lowry is a year younger than Brooks and is the far more complete player. We'd be giving up arguably our 2nd best PG and a broken down superstar for Steve Nash, who likely has a couple more good years left in him. The key reason this hypothetical deal makes sense to me is that Lowry would still be here waiting in the wings. I wouldn't want Nash if the only other PG left was an aging Rafer Alston. I don't think Nash alone would make us comparable to the Celtics of last season. Not with McGrady being all jacked up and Yao's injury problems starting to look like more than just a fluke. In my opinion: Brooks/Lowry > Alston/Brooks and Nash/Lowry >>> Brooks/Lowry
Of course they were contenders after they made they trade. Isn't that the whole point of giving up Odom, Butler, Grant and a #1 pick? His point is that they gave up a crapload to put themselves in a position to win immediately. Sound familiar?? That's a lot more than Brooks and some expiring deal...and Shaq was actually showing signs of declining and they had to give him an extension. FYI, you can't guarentee a title. All you can do is put your team in the best position. Title opportunities don't come around that often.
