I agree, Morey is the guy that will make the decision none of us here. I do hope Morey pulls the trigger. Brooks at the moment is probably the hottest trade bait out there coming to the off-season. Tracy has a fat juicy expiring contract that teams everywhere will want so they can play the LeBron sweepstakes. Nash only has one year left in his contract anyways, so we can try him next season the same way we tried Ron Artest this season. There is not a big risk, Rockets need a title and this might be there best bet. We are not rebuilding, we are contending.
like, every starting pg in the playoffs minus one or 2? west- blake parker cp3 kidd dwill fisher billups east - bibby rondo rose rafer mo williams stuckey (who ever start pg positions for miami, can't think of him) andre miller who is not better than ab?
Again, talk to me if/when Amare becomes available because that's who I would rather have. Shaq/Amare vs. Yao/Amare parallels aside. Still worth it.
1) kevin garnett was 30 years old when the celtics made that trade. KG easily has 4-5 more years in him when that trade was made. 2) sheed was relatively young too. steve nash is 35 years old. THIRTY-FIVE. and how does getting him would guarantee us a ring since we have NEVER seen steve play half-court offense consistently before? didn't he complain earlier this year that the tempo was so slow due to porter's offense and only played better when gentry pushed the pace again. we all know yao's limitations, and playing fast isn't one of them. brooks has shown a great deal of promise this year, and he will only get better.
You must not have been reading the thread earlier, because John Stockton made a championship run with the Utah Jazz in 97 when he was 37 years old and 98 when he was 38 years old. Nash is a late bloomer it took him 5 years to become an all-star player in the league. With the skill set and IQ Nash has, he'll be in the league for another 5-7 years.
Too namy a few: CP3, Deron Williams, Jason Kidd,Steve Nash, Tony Parker, Derrick Rose,Andre Miller, Chauncey Billups, Jason Terry, Rajon Rondo,Mike Conley,Gilbert Arenas,Baron Davis,Raymond Felton, Mo williams, Devin Harris,Jameer Nelson.
say age doesn't matter. when has nash proven he can play a half-court offense? he complained earlier this year when the tempo was slowed down so they can focus more on defense. with yao, this team will never be an uptempo team (hence we only run mostly when the 2nd unit is in). so you expect nash to play 30-33 minutes of half-court offense every night and expect him to perform to his usual standard? remember, everyone looks better than they really are in the suns' offense. look at the freakin' knicks.
Well, even straight up, a good young point guard is preferable to a veteran. Throwing in two (!) FIRST ROUND PICKS was insane. Anybody who thinks otherwise does not pay attention. The Mavericks won about 50 games because Dirk is still playing at a top 10 level and Jason Terry had his best year in a long time. Kidd was fine, but there is no way the Mavs would have been worse with Harris. The league rules favor quick players. Brooks is the quickest player in the league, is a great shooter and just had some fantastic playoff performances. Why in the hell would you trade a young player like that to get a guy in Nash who has started on the decline. He's 35 years old.
And you can add quite a lot PGs who is on the same level as Brooks too. That list includes Rafer Alston. Even Kyle Lowry outplays Brooks time after time with Yao in the line up. Two comeback ran were under Lowry against Portland, otherwise we might still not able to pass 1st round.
Well you must be confused with some other guy. Nash is not the player that sucks in a halfcourt offense that would be Amare Stoudemire. There's a reason why Nash is the only guy that performs in the playoffs while guys like Shawn Marion end up sucking and choking.
JESUS!!! I can't WAIT until the off season is FINALLY over!! Heh. Well, come on -- SOME of us are already tired of the speculation threads.
KG was entering his 13th season when the trade was made and was considered to be on the downside of his career. Ray Allen was in his 12th season and most SG's significantly decline once they get past 30 (he was 32). Please find me any source or analyst or anyone giving the Celtics a 4-5 year window to get a title with that group. So again, they can sacrifice Al Jefferson and a #5 pick...but we can't come off Aaron Brooks, who is worse than basically every starting PG in the playoffs except for like 2? Sheed was in his 9th year. I admit he wasn't the oldest, but the team still took a risk on him to win. And it worked. Nash is 35, but his game is not based on speed or athleticism. PG's can be effective for a very long time. As far as this we have never seen Nash play half court offense before, he excelled at it last season and put up numbers that put Brooks to shame. Again, please explain to us how a PG who can shoot like crazy and actually is good at getting others involved would struggle in a half court set? Brooks has shown promise. He has also shown a lot of inconsistency that makes me think we are not ready to compete with him as a starter, because he sucks at being a "PG".
Scola + Landry for Amare is a downgrade. Not considering health issue, you won't see chemistry problem with Scolandry, but you will with Amare. We already have Ron.
1)uhh, any 1ST-YEAR PG who can put up 17ppg on 46%fg and 42% 3s is good enough for me, the 3.4apg can use some work obviously. but he was better than just TWO starting PG. calm down and be objective. 2) yes the window for the celtics of winning a championship wasn't 4-5 years. i said KG's playing years could last another 4-5 years. paul pierce at that time was only 29. only ray allen was 31. so all 3 were around 29-31 at the time of the trade, not freakin' 35. like i said, if nash was 30, i do the trade without hesitation. BUT HE'S NOT. 3) if nash was so great at half-court, why did he complain like crazy earlier in the season when porter tried to slow the game down so they can focus more on offense? it helped their defense, but he was still whining. so obviously he knew his weaknesses. again, i never said nash is not better than brooks. AT THIS STAGE, he is. but is the gap as wide as compared to say chris paul or deron to brooks? no. but does he guarantee a championship? i don't think so. brooks is going to get better. he already commands double teams somewhat and this was his first year starting (heck, half a year). we need to groom him. he played well enough for us to advance had yao or tracy stay healthy. if you put nash in the situation brooks has been, with tmac and yao out, you get the same results wouldn't you?
A hot series against Lakers in 6 games shouldn't be considered so highly. Fisher is too slow to defend like he used to be. It makes AB's trade value higher than he actually is. Don't forget about 19 asts/22 TOs, those are more alarming numbers for PG than shooting numbers in a short series.
Aaron Brooks' value is at an all time high. Before the playoffs this deal wouldn't have been possible. Now it is because of his great performance. But did he really break out? I mean, he has definitely played great, but a closer look reveals the reason why. His best games are game 1 in Portland, game 4 and 6 in LA, the rest were actually quite average. Whats the common theme? They were without Yao. He scored the majority of his points in game 1 in the second half, when Yao sat with foul trouble. Yao was out of the playoffs by game 4 and 6. I think its pretty clear that Aaron's biggest weakness is his decision-making. When playing in a Yao-centric offense, where he actually has to run a offense, he struggles. When playing without Yao, where its simple Pick and Rolls and all he has to do is shoot, he thrives. He is a better player when he doesn't have to think. He is simply a better player without Yao. With that said, no way are we going to cater to Brooks over Yao. Which means the highest his trade value will be is in these playoffs where he played without him. If we can take advantage of that and flip this low first round pick who will always be an undersized shooting guard into a Hall of Fame PG, you do it without a thought.
