I'd only want Shaq in a trade if Rick promised to give me one game where he ran out Yao and Shaq in the starting lineup. Awesomeness would surely ensue.
You can let Shaq start to show him the respect (and to win the jump ball), let Yao to finish the game. I am not sure You can trade Brooks for both Nash and Shaq (two former MVPs).
Nobody is scared of Yao Ming. Ok so lets have average wing and point guard players and lets see how much impact the center has on defense. Defense takes the whole team not just one position. one player.
It's definitely worth looking into. It would create a pretty small window for us to win, but that window is already pretty small in that nobody really expects Yao to be dominant late into his 30's. If we did trade Aaron, I'd like to see a package that brings back a younger PG. I think his value is sky-high right now.
Well there is a huge difference between those two and that's that Stockton was an elite defensive PG, while Nash you can argue is a defensive liability. Our pick n roll defense would be terrible, although we have Lowry on the bench. He could play some defense here and backup Nash, but honestly in the closing seconds Nash is going to be out there and we all know how good he is defensively and that's not very much. Shaq on this team would make our pick n roll team an absolute joke.
There have been players that said it is harder to score when Yao is out the game. Artest even said he was a better defender in Indiana because he had a guy like Jermaine O'Neal backing him up in the paint. I thought all that was pretty common NBA knowledge.
How do you know this? Nash seems very quick, especially for a player of his age and doesn't seem to have less physical strength than your average PG. Over the course of his career i'd say he has been of similar build and athleticism to Lindsey Hunter. But, Hunter was a much better defender. Nash doesn't seem to have the desire to defend his man on every play. Often times he gets caught roaming and not really guarding anyone. I consider him in the top 10 worst defenders of starting players. This is not true. The Pistons team that won a championship was below average offensively and I think there were a couple of those Spurs teams that were just slightly above average. You can win that way. You MUST, however, have a good defense. With that said, Nash would be a huge upgrade at this point. We sorely need playmaking and I question if it is possible to be a great defender from the PG position with the current set of rules.
Nobody is scared of Yao Ming. Yep that's cool. I guess you have your T.V on mute when analysts like Jeff Van Gundy and Doug Collins say Yao Ming has been altering shots and intimidating players from entering the paint. You might want to consider listening to the game as well as watching the game. It tends to help, especially your knowledge.
Look, if you only have to give up an average, midget PG and a big contract to make your team a title contender then you do it all day and twice on Sunday. Those are the chances you take to win a title....because title winning opportunities don't come around very often. The Celtics had to give up freaking Al Jefferson for what, a 2-3 year window, and they went into cap hell to do it. Didn't the Pistons give up a lot to land Rasheed Wallace? Didn't the Heat go into tax hell to land Shaq? Do any of those teams have regrets...not at all. The Mavs gave up a much better PG and #1 picks to land Kidd, who isn't as good as Nash and tied their funds up. So no, I don't see how giving up a bad contract and a midget guard who is coming off just as many bad playoff games as good ones is too much, especially when we have already given up a #8 pick for a role player (Battier), and two #1's for Artest. I honestly don't see how this team can lose with a PG that can make half his shots, 40% of his 3's, get others involved and close out games. And if it doesn't work out, he is a free agent at the end of the year.
This is a terrible, terrible idea. Terrible. Dont get me wrong -- I like Steve Nash. But Nash is old and not nearly as effective playing in a halfcourt offense. Right now, I'm eagerly awaiting the future of the Rockets. This team is is built to compete for the next 5-10 years. There's a good, young, athletic core that will keep this team in the playoffs for a long, long time. Nash does not make this team a title contender. I'm not even sure if, at this point in his career, he even makes the team better. Keep Brooks/Lowry.
Having Yao with anybody guarding williams and Boozer wouldn't be fun. If they make outside shots, so be it. But having opponents guarding Yao and Nash would be too much fun.
we have an even younger pg in lowry, whom nash can teach. after nash has come and gone, you'd have a successor.
That actually makes a lot of sense. Get the other team in the penalty with Shaq, and then put Yao on the floor to shoot the free throws.
hey, i always have the volume on when i watch the rockets on tv. and i've heard clyde and bill say "yao scared them to death" like what, hundred of times? i don't know anyone is scared of yao, per se. but i certainly have seen countless shots were altered or blocked.
lol my bad I meant to say there have been guys that said it is easier to score when Yao is out the game.
Jesus, You know there's a reason why Tayshaun Prince has been sucking defensively in recent years and that's because Ben Wallace is no longer on his team backing him up. If you truly think centers have less impacts than guards and forwards defensively then you are in the wrong ERA. As a matter of fact you are in the wrong world. There's a reason why people keep talking about our team defensively because we have two power house perimeter defenders named Ron Artest and Shane Battier AND we have this 7'6 guy who alters and blocks shots in the paint. It's not all Ron and Shane, It's the guy behind them as well.
I don't. I rather stay with Brooks and Lowry if that's the choice. Nash is too much of a liability on defense.
