With the way they played the lakers and given we had deke or some 7 footer on the roster could this team make the playoffs?

I think it could as an 8 seed.

No, It's that simple. An Amare-Less Suns would have a better chance making the playoffs than a Yao-less AND a McGrady-less Rockets.

Yeah; the bad teams in the West are so bad (Phoenix on down) that we could make it as the 8th seed.

not sure, utah and new orleans are good teams, had we not had yao nor mac, we'd probably wouldn't make the playoffs unless brooks can play like he did every game.

Every team has teams that it can match up well with, and vice versa.

Look at the Warriors. In their exciting playoff series they easily handled the Mavs, because they matched up so well with them.

And then, they faced Utah in the second round, and got destroyed.

It's all a matter of matchups. We might have beaten the Lakers with just this team right now, but we might not have gotten past Portland without Yao and Deke.

If we stayed completely healthy, yes.

It depends. Are they allowed to use Yao and McGrady's salaries to pick up more players?

If not, I don't think the team would be deep enough to sustain their energy. There are just too many games to go through with a thin roster, and they'd have absolutely no room for another guy to get hurt.

If Yao and T-mac both went down in the preseason and we couldn't trade both of them.

I would say no we would not make the playoffs.

Yes, i think we can, we will need to stay healthy, and that other 7 footer has to have some offense.
Say that 7 footer is Nesterovic, i think we can get a playoff seed.

In the East, yes. In the West, probably not.

I think we'd be one of the worst teams in the western conference

to my understanding, this is a hypothetic question, right? it says, the players who played the last few games against the lakers, does anyone think they can go thru an entire season and make the playoffs? right? is that the op's question?

take 20-35 million dollars of payroll from any team, that team becomes a bottom dweller.

some of you guys are crazy.

The lakers with 2 7-footers would seem like the worst match up for us, but we took it to 7. We play good d which we did even in game 7. You can't say the same about the suns. If we got a 7 footer like gordat, I think we could sneak in.

Deke (healthy), Scolandry, Battier, Artest, Brooks, Lowry + Wafer = playoffs

Substitute Hayes for Deke and no playoffs.

15 teams made it to the playoffs without either Yao or Tmac this year...so yes. ;)

if we traded Yao and TMac and got reasonable value for the trades, then yes.
