I would evaluate Tmac very well. "If" he comes back by mid season, i truely believe he will come hard and show alot. He knows contracts are coming up and for him to get the most of it, he has to prove his value. I wouldnt trade him. Just see what he can offer when he returns.

We all know how well this Rockets team is without him.

As far as Yao is concern, i would look into finding a great back up center to limit Yaos mins. I would Limit Yao to 30 min a game and try to take him away from the China basketball league.

I would resign Ron. We have yet to see what this rockets team can do with a full roster for a good amount of the season.

    Here's what i want:

Resign Ron Artest. It's critical to build a strong defensive team and Ron is the leader of these PITBULLS pack, you can't let him go!! Defense WIN Championship...period!!

Trade Aaron Brooks while his value is sky-rocketed for STEVE NASH!!

Resign Von Wafer...to me he is automatic from any where on the court and we need his shooting touch. Him being aggressive is a good thing because we NEED more of those type of players that constantly attacking. That has been our problem in the past, we don't have players that can attack (Luther Head?). So when you found one, you need to keep him.

I guess it's okay to keep Tmac for 1 more yr and see how he go because these Playoffs have demonstrated we need someone like Tmac to create offense when Yao is being fronted. Hopefully he turn himself into an aggressive player based on watching these Playoffs games.

    For me it's simple:
After 7 games do we now know what are needed to beat the Lakers ?

Sign/resign players who can help us do that.

You have made some good points, but Brooks is a scorer and the Suns need a passer like Nash on their squad. The salaries won't work in this situation.

I think the real important stuff reduces to this.

What will we do with Yao.
What will we do with T-Mac.

If we keep anyone of those two (i hope it´s Yao) we cannot keep the other, plain and simple. You cannnot bet your season on two guys unable to stay healthy for a complete season, you have to learn from history not expect it to change.
We are not getting a star in 2010 if we resign Artest, so trading Tracy is a substancial move to get a third star player.

I would love Biedrins and Sjax for Tmac, and i don´t see it as a delusional trade given the state of the GS Warriors.

After what we decide to do with Yao and T-Mac then it comes the artest issue, i want him back, but at his market value, nothing more.
If a team wants to pay Ron 12-15 millions, let them do it and find a replacement.

I like your enphasis, i just don´t think Brooks for Nash is doable, and i don´t see Tracy playing like you say he will.

I agree that we should move Brooks when his value is high. AB along wont be dealt along because his small contract. To get a big fish Morey has to pack AB with Battier/Artest/Tmac.

Well it's a no brainer for the past few seasons that the Rockets need insurance for Tmac and Yao. Funny thing is that this has been the same main issue every offseason for the past few seasons. They solved the Yao problem temporarily by signing Deke and now that he's through thats the number one issue to deal with. I am excited to see Joey Dorsey develop and possibly be that guy but he's just as small as Landry and Scola. It will be interesting to see where Morey goes with this but size is something that needs to be addressed.

The Tmac insurance had been Bonzi Wells, getting Steve Francis and then subsequently Ron Artest. Bonzi didn't work out due to being out of shape and then when he finally was doing good and contributing, he was dealt away. Francis had the same out of shape issue along with the knee injury that he didn't want to fix until it bit him in the butt. We definitely need a scorer to complement Yao so we could either get rid of Mac or cross our fingers with Mac next season along with nabbing a scorer that will relieve us if Mac goes down again. As an extra note, I would like for the Rockets to give Francis another chance in the summer by inviting him to training camp since he's now fully healed up just to see what he's got. I would've rather kept Francis on our bench in the role that Brent Barry was playing instead of Brent just by how thoroughly disappointing Brent was.

I don't know about Brooks and Lowry because while I like them both, we still need a leader to be able to handle pressure situations.

    Keep
    Yao Ming
    Battier
    Scola
    Landry
    Brooks

    Cut
    Brent Barry
    James White
    Brian Cook

    Question Mark for now
    Artest
    Mac
    Wafer
    Hayes

I really liked Artest for the team this year, but I am concerned about signing him to a long-term deal. I think he is really a good guy that has gotten a bad rap, but I am more concerned with his ability to hold up as a player for the life of the contract. Instead of re-signing Ron, I would like to see them pursue Gortat form Orlando this summer as their backup center. Getting a true center to back up Yao is the team's most pressing need so that is where I would focus attention with regards to free agency. Any other holes/upgrades that need to be made should be done via a McGrady trade.

If we are lucky enough to find a team willing take on McGrady's contract, then we should get back a SG, SF and/or PG. While I really like Aaron Brooks, he seems more suited to be a backup to provide some offense off the bench. I would have no problem with them keeping him and trying to develop him into a more traditional PG, but when you are moving a contract the size of McGrady's, the quality of player you get back will likely be an upgrade over Brooks. I just don't think they should rule out a deal that may have a PG as the focal point if they have the opportunity to move McGrady.

I don't know what they are thinking in Toronto trying to trade Bosh, but as long as they don't have their heads on straight, why not Tmac, Brooks and Dorsey for Bosh and Calderon? That trade works and will have tham in very good cap shape following the season, assuming that is what they're looking for.

I think the Birdman is available this offseason. We could use a more dominating defensive spark plug that can also do some cleanup duty under the basket. He would also add much needed speed to the 4/5 positions and would work well with the 2nd unit IMO.

I'm all for the Mac-Bosh trade mentioned before, but how interested are other teams in McGrady?

I'd think they'd be interested in his expiring contract.

The type of teams that will be interested in McGrady are teams going nowhere and in need of rebuilding with players on their roster that are signed for more than 1 year. The Pistons come to mind in this respect. Thay are about to lose Iverson and Wallace, so they will have money to sign free agents, but if they miss out on free agents this summer and have to go into the season with what they have right now, they may be very inclined to make a trade like McGrady for Hamilton and Prince at the deadline. Not saying that the Rockets would be interested, but that is the type of situation where McGrady' contract becomes desireable for teams. Are there any other teams that fit that profile?

This team at the moment I think has pretty good depth other than that of Centre, i think we should try to keep everyone if possible though some tweaking needs to be done.

personally i dont think we can keep both mcgrady and artest, they are both to similar when it comes down to the offensive end. They both take reckless shots, they both think their jump shooting will win games. they both hang on to the ball to much which slows down the offense.
Artest's positives are that he has good defense and it works well as a 2 headed monster with battier, he's tough and intimidates opposition, when games get ugly his playing style really suits well.
Tmacs positives are that he can make everyone better and get people involved with his play making when he is in the mood for it. when mcgrady is hot he's one of the best in the league. He is one of the best on the team getting yao the ball.
If possible get artest to find a team he wants to sign with with a player that team doesnt need.

With mcgrady recovering until the new year it is tough to know what to do. personally I'd like to keep mcrady and have him coming off the bench as a super sub, playing majority of his minutes in the 2nd half finishing off games as our closer. which is what we have sorely missed. I think if Mcgrady is kept fresh for the 2nd half our chances of winning will be higher.

Yao well I want to keep him but at the same time I don't want to keep him.
He is a player that gives us an advantage against some teams but also a disadvantage against some teams. The fact also that he is getting foot and leg problems a lot really worries me in the long term. We lost Yao during the lakers series but we still did end up winning 2 with out him but think of it like this, look at the Celtics during the playoffs they lost Garnett and now they are knocked out. If they still had Garnett they would of gotten over the bulls easier and would of beat the magic as garnett is not only an offensive threat but he really does keep the celtics defense together. So my point is we cant continue losing our valueable assets close to or during playoff time otherwise we will never win a championship again. I'm sick of it I want no more of it.
Yao though brings in a lot of money for Les so the likely hood of him being traded his highly unlikely. As Yao's backup I'd like to see ZaZa Pachulia signed as Yao's backup, zaza is a decent centre rebounds well has good energy, he is also decent enough to help yao reduce his minutes to around 30 a night, I'd like to see Yao along with Mcgrady playing most of their minutes in the 2nd half to help close out games with more energy.

Aaron Brooks he has a bright future and I love how he plays with his speed, and he has a nice shot, but lets be honest here, he was having a great series against the Lakers, but if we won and played the Nuggets, billups would of manhandled him I think, Aaron brooks problem is he is to small and he isnt a pass first point guard, his play is more suited to coming off the bench. Rockets still need a pass first point guard who can hit the open three.

Von Wafer has been a nice addition but maybe another team will offer him to much, and if he gets a nice contract I think he will be one of those get a nice contract and then play **** type of players.

    anyways thats my 2 cents

this is my solutions to the tough decisions u have listed:

    1: Trade for Rip Hamilton

2: Trade Aaron Brooks for a stud while Brooks' value is insanely high.

    3: Trade for Steve Nash

4: Achieve 1-3 with T-Mac's 23 million dollar expiring. Morey's entire career will be defined by what he is able to get with this gold commodity.

    5-10: Repeat steps 1-4

    Shane Battier does all that.

If Rockets want to shake everything up, which I think they wont, then they trade McGrady for Baron Davis and Kaman. Then they do Yao for Wade.

    Davis
    Wade
    Battier
    Scola
    Kaman

However, I wouldn't do so much blockbuster trades, NBA isn't a Fantasy league.
