Artest will never be a leader.

If he was the leader, good luck...

Im all in for signing him around 8 million but no way more then 10 mil.

I have heard that each of the last five years. T Mac may never play again at a high level and Yao has serious recurring foot problems.

If Artest is not signed, another impact player needs to be brought in or we may not even make the playoffs next year because T Mac will not be back until mid season at the earliest and Yao can not stay healthy for long stretches of time.

If all three are healthy, Artest and TMac could exist together primarily by building two contrasting units: (1) Yao, Scola, Battier, Artest and Brooks (2)
Hayes or a big like Deke, Landry, McGrady, Battier, Lowry

If both TMac and Yao are on the roster next year (which is highly likely), a third star needs to be signed and there is nobody else out there with as much impact as Artest.

if he doesn't want to become a role player then get rid of him, we simply don't want him chucking up bad contested shots. I also said he should get under 7 or let him go.

Really. His impact was overblown. That's why Magic Johnson, JVG, Phil Jackson, Kobe Bryant, every freaking person covering basketball, said that he brought a toughness to the team. Because he wasn't important. Right. I guess you weren't looking at the game when he was pulling young guys off to the side during timeouts and teaching them and showing them the mistakes they were making. Keeping their heads up and making sure they didn't get down on themselves. These were things that were caught ON CAMERA.

    1) wafer will be a year older. he will be part of training camp and part of the team to start the year if signed. he wasn't part of this team totally until tracy went down. i'm sure with experience, he will be a better player. offensively, he produces more EASILY. defensively, he improved quite a bit from midyear till now. i have confidence in the guy.

    2) chris andersen will provide the type of defense we need, and we already have a top-notch defense. and please, watch some more of the guy. he can finish around the rim b/c he's extremely athletic. if we can get playmakers (either brooks improve/lowry, or whoever we can get for tracy or even if he stays), he's going to be a legit 20 minuter per player. HE'S A GAME CHANGER.

    3) umm... obviously you haven't watched this guy play. he actually can also shoot 3s, run the fast break, defend a little bit, and create a little bit off the dribble. the only thing shane can do better than him is defend.

Again, I want to know what team would offer Ron $10 mil when the guy has been making $8 and is only getting older? Even Shawn Marion and Allen Iverson won't sniff the $10 mil mark this offseason and I can guarantee that.

Everyone that puts out stipulations that Artest should stay only if he gets 8 mil and under is not even thinking clearly because THAT'S WHAT HE'S BEEN MAKING. What team in the league right now would fork over anything more than that for him especially in this economy and especially with FA 2010 looming?

Arguing this is a moot point, especially since some of these arguments are ridiculous. The bottomline is that the important people know Artest's value, and will do everything they can to re-sign him. McGrady might never play another game as a Rocket. If he does, it won't be until after the All-Star break of next year. Keep this team together, re-sign one of the team leaders, Ron Artest, get some help, and lets compete for a championship next year.

yes, those things are worth $8 mil.

and obviously we need someone to pull him off the side during timeouts and teach and show him what mistakes he was doing also.

I have to agree with you, despite your vendetta against Tracy. If Tracy got out of the 1st round, everybody would be all over his jockstrap and he would be the ONLY one that gets credit.

With Yao? Guys like Scola and Brooks get credit
With Artest? Guys like Scola and Brooks get credit

All said and done, these people are just Tracy only fans in denial and they can accept the fact that Yao and Artest both have completely surpassed Tracy as a leader and as a player. Maybe not Artest for player, but Yao for sure.

Your logic is all over the place. So not winning means he's not giving it his all? So was Yao not giving it his all till this season?

All the bone head plays Ron did was nothing as negative as what Tmac did to this team.

the thing is: NO ONE DARES TO TELL HIM SO on this team. NO ONE. and that's why he keeps doing the same dumb things every game.

He was part of the preseason squad this past year so he's been w/ the team as long as anyone save for Lowry. His offensive game is pretty good but that defense will probably not get any better. Unless Wafer's guarding Rudy Fernandez or Sasha Vujacic for 82 games next year, he'll just be another Eddie House - like player.

So you think we shouldn't spend money on Artest but rather pay a guy that can only be a "legit 20 min per game" player? Well I mean if we can sign Andersen for less, sign me up!

Shane can shoot 3s. Shane can defend a little bit. Shane can create "a little bit" off the dribble. Why spend money on someone that is pretty much Shane's derivative when we have a glaring hole at the back up Center spot
