The Blazers, Celtics, Grizzles, Heat, Spurs and Timberwolves are among teams attending a draft workout held by the Rockets this weekend. The NBA instituted a new rule recently that allows teams to attend workouts hosted by other clubs as long as the costs are shared. The workout in Houston will include about 40 players, predominantly college seniors. "It's marginal guys, second-round guys that may be drafted," said an NBA source about the workout. "It's a way to save money and utilize the rule that allows other teams to come." http://www.realgm.com/src_wiretap_a.../six_teams_will_attend_rockets_draft_workout/
do we have a draft pick this year? I remember some talks about buying a pick, interesting that we'd host this event without maybe having something already in the works.
Blazers (Jeff Ma) Celtics (Morey's former club) Grizzlies (Chris Wallace) Spurs (Dennis Lindsey) Timberwolves (Dean Cooper) What's Miami's connection to Morey or the Rockets?
We always do trades with the Grizzlies. I will pay attention to whoever is drafted by memphis grizzlies cuz someday he might become a Rocket
We could trade for a pick or sign one of the guys as a FA. Obviously the venue where the workout happens does not require that we have a pick.
Yeah man this is how I feel. Screw them, Spurs, Blazers and Celts are good drafters any way they shouldn't need our help. They finally realize what we doing down here.
Sounds good. Prediction: we acquire a second rounder to take Jeff Adrien to qualify as the obligatory 6'6"-6'7" forward that we seem to acquire every year.
I see no issue with this, even with no pick. Conducting due diligence is never a bad move. There are many ways that Morey could acquire a pick or two, and keeping an eye on guys that may be undrafted but talented is always wise. You never know what you might find.
The fact we have no picks currently gives us a advantage because other teams have no idea where we will pick so it will make it harder for them to back door us. Im sure that other teams had their eyes on Carl Landry but since we bought Seattle's pick we where able to get our hands on him before other teams had a chance to act.
Morey holding workout without draft pick. It just goes to show how smart he is. Let other teams pay players to workout in Houston. I have faith in Morey's highly probably pick this year; I have faith in Jory Dorsey's "rookie" season.
I don't like Portland being there. I don't like the idea of helping them, working with them, making a deal of any kind with them, Morey needs to get past his friendship. Portland needs to get the cold shoulder.
Bingo. This will give us an idea if we want to trade cash for a second round pick and/or what undrafted players we might want to invite to the summer league.
