I think we definitely have to pursue a veteran starting PG whether it's a FG or trade if we really want to win the whole thing next year. Our current starting PG is actually a midget SG in disguise who is not very compatible for Yao and the Yao-oriented offense. He's had some very good moments, and some very bad moments. He's a young player. Is him starting at PG indicative of a team in the "win now" mode?

If we don't make any changes at PG, Lowry has to be the starter. He's more of a true PG, and if T-Mac, Yao, and Artest are all playing, we don't need to start a scoring guard. If Brooks is still on the team, I'd let him come off the bench.

More on Brooks. I can't see his NBA stock being any higher the rest of his life. I think we could get great value for him, whether it's a veteran PG that can actually run an offense, or another position of need like veteran backup SG/SF if Wafer/Artest leave, or a backup C. Again, this goes back to our win-now mode. It's absolutely critical that your competent PG knows what the hell he's doing at all times at home and on the road. PG is probably the worst position to not have experience in.

My personal idea is I'd trade Brooks and fillers to PHX for Barbosa. PHX needs to find a PG like Brooks once Nash leaves, and they've always wanted to draft him. Barbosa would fit perfectly in a Yao-offense or even if Yao is not playing. Then I'd go hard after Mike Bibby since he's a good shooter and would also fit in a Yao world. He's a veteran with poise that can run an offense. Knows Adelman and his system.

We should address you making threads, but anyways. Our PGs aren't going anywhere, they are the future for this team. It's not like they are both elite PGs in the league like T.J Ford and Jose Calderon were down in Toronto.

Kyle Lowry should start, but I don't mind either of them as Rockets at this point.

Barbosa is also a SG in a PG's body.

I think an AB for Bibby trade would make RA happy.

How about trading brooks to Orlando for Rafer Alston?????

DOn't trade away Brooks. He's young, but he's getting better very quickly.

Yes, they should still pursue a PG. Brooks has a very good postseason and I"ll admit I underestimated him but I still saw him defer to Ron. Ron yells for the ball, Brooks (and Lowry) give it to him and then everyone stands there while Ron kills the offense. No good.

This team needs a floor leader. It needs a player who gives the ball to the guy with the best chance of scoring and not the guy who screams for it at the top of the key.

Either get a veteran PG who is a natural, strong leader or let Ron walk.

After this series, you still want to trade Brooks? He was our star in this series after Yao went down. The center of our offense, creating matchup problem all over the floor. Did you see how the Lakers were trapping him at all cost? How the entire defensive game plan of the Lakers this game was to contain him? Have you not seen his poise, leadership, heart and amazing growth, IN THE PLAYOFFS? What more can you ask for? Which young point guard that we can get could possibly be better? Of course, everybody'd take CP3 over AB0 any day of the week, but for a player like Andre Miller?

    HELL NO!!

I'm convinced that another season or two under Adelman, AB could really blossom like Tony Parker did for the Spurs.

I think you should give Brooks a chance. Sure he was inconsistent but did you really expect a 2nd year point guard to take over the team halfway through the season? Even Tony Parker had it tough in SA when he started out. I'll give him another year before shutting down the project.

I don't get it, he suggests replacing Brooks with Barbosa. Barbosa takes even more shots than Brooks and passes the ball even less in the same minutes.

You of all people complaining about threads a poster is making? Ironic coming from tmacfan0114 errr... OlajuwonShake34 errr... WeMissDekeMan
The difference is Barbosa won't be our starting POINT guard. He'd be backing up McGrady at SG and won't be playing 40 minutes ever.

we always want to trade trade trade.

we have 2 GOOD point guard. all we have to do is work with them and we have a good combination at the PG position

Please re-read my thread again. My idea in a nutshell:

    Brooks OUT, Wafer OUT
    Bibby IN, Barbosa IN

Who knows if this is even possible financially because of re-signing Ron, but it can't even be argued that those changes would make the team more experienced, a better fit for Yao, and just a better team overall.

I can't believe after averaging 16.8/2.3/3.4 on 45%/42%/80% over 13 playoff games, some people still want AB0 gone or back to the bench. C'mon people. Common sense. Common sense.

why would you want 2?? who do you have in mind. We have 2 young good up and coming point guards. Better for them to grown now then having to figure out every year who is going to be our point guard because the point guard we may have will be 2 old.

I rather keep our point guards now because who knows how long it would take for us to find 2 good ones later one. Look at how long it took us to get our PF situation settled. Keep Brooks and Lowry and just add a backup center and keep ron ron.

Common sense also tells you that Brooks is best served as a 6th man instead of a point guard. I'll give the boy A LOT of credit for being the offense for the Rockets when Yao went down, but he's still NOT A POINT GUARD. The overdribbling and the errant passing inside the 3 point arc has got to change or he needs to go back to the bench.
