About 8 millions per year, 2-3 years contract. If Artest wants more than that, the rockets have to let him go.

Ron hurt us more against the Lakers then helped.

He's not a great 3 pointer shooter, he doesn't pass well, he tends to hold the ball, he's turnover prone, he doesn't shoot well inside the 3 and he's a good defender but not as good as Shane Battier.

    He also makes questionable decisions.

    Let him walk.

I say instead, offer Chris Anderson 8 million a year and see if he bites.

I'm not sure. Defensively, he is not effective against guards anymore. Kobe blew right by him as did Roy. He is still a beast against bigger, slower wing players but if not for Battier, Roy and Kobe would have averaged 40 a game on 50% shooting. Having said that, he makes the team defense better and he is great against guys like Odom and Travis Outlaw (except when he "forces" Odom to drive to his only good hand - do your homework Ron).

Offensively, he has to take a smaller role. In fact, I would like to see the Rockets yank him when he starts killing the offense. Right now the team doesn't have the depth at SF/SG to do that. Then again, even if the depth was there can the Rockets afford to have a pissed off Artest who feels he deserves more touches/minutes?

I think Morey/Adelman need to sit the guy down and tell him honestly and directly that offensively he does more harm than good and that they are looking to diminish his role as a scorer. If he does not whole-heartedly embrace that (and I doubt he will) then they need to let him move on. This team can't afford to have such a poor offensive player taking so many shots nor can it afford to have a guy who is mad because he isn't getting the minutes/shots he wants.

You want Ron Artest on the Lakers guarding Tmac?
You want Ron Artest on the Blazers guarding Tmac?
You want Ron Artest with the Mavericks?
You want Ron Artest on the Spurs?

    Think about that.

I like what he brings. I would offer 8 million for 3 years, or 7 million for 4.

Ron should definitely be resigned. He was not brought here to be a primary offensive player, which he had to be at times due to injuries to others. If everybody is healthy and/or T-Mac is traded for a play making wing, Ron is an invaluable piece.

The Artest signing is going to be the story of the off season. The cap, other teams that are interested in him, what they offer him, who we might be able to get with the money another team might offer him. Going to be interesting, I hear the Knicks may want him because of his past relationship with Donnie Walsh and because the Knicks need more D, it would mean a sign and trade with us because the Knicks can only offer him the MLE. I would think Artest would have no objection to going back to NY.

I was just being an ass. You keep saying resign Artest instead of re-sign.

Definitions of resign on the Web:

    * vacate: leave (a job, post, or position) voluntarily; "She vacated the position when she got pregnant"; "The chairman resigned when he was found ...
    * leave office: give up or retire from a position; "The Secretary of the Navy will leave office next month"; "The chairman resigned over the financial scandal"
    * release: part with a possession or right; "I am relinquishing my bedroom to the long-term house guest"; "resign a claim to the throne"
    * accept as inevitable; "He resigned himself to his fate"

Chris Anderson is incredibly overrated IMO. You want to pay $8 million for a guy who averages around 7 ppg and 6 rpg just because he is a so-called "energy guy"? Please.

He's a horrendous offensive player due to his shot selection and constant over-dribbling. He compounds the problem by showing no ability to realize when he should stop shooting, or at least start working from the post.

He's a really good defender, but I'm not ready to call him great at this point in his career. His athleticism seems to have declined, and he's so heavy right now that he's at a big disadvantage when chasing a guard in pick 'n roll situations.

So do I want to re-sign him?

Not if he wants more than about 7 million a year. If he wants more, I'd look at other options. Then if there's nothing out there, I'd come back and try to work something out.

I just don't want to get locked into a 40 million over 4 years type of contract with a player that is both past his prime and inconsistent.

Ron Artest would neutralize Tmac any day of the week.

You put Ron on Tmac vs Dallas, and Dirk and Jason Terry would have us for lunch.

Not if he asks for more money then what GForce got from the Bobcats. I'd say 30 mill for 3 years is the max I'd like to see him get...over that, I don't think it's worth it.

I'm not sure primarily because of T-Mac. One of them has to go, and while I would prefer Ron to stay, I would think that it would be Tracy who would stay. If Tracy goes, then up to 9 million for 3 years would do.

    As I said

As long as Ron doesn't want anymore than 8 million, I would have no problem with re-signing him. I think the Rockets should consider doing a sign and trade with Ron for Marvin Williams and ZaZa, that would be a sweet deal for us, but I'm not sure if the Hawks would be interested.

I don't think Ron would be such a chucker, if Tracy was still playing. It seems like Ron was the guy that ATTEMPTED to elevate his offensive game and it didn't work. We need another pure scorer not named T-Mac. I suggest we trade Tracy, since he has a juicy expiring contract in 2010. I have no problem with Ron, as long as he doesn't want more than 8 mil.

I feel like we gave him a whole season, plus two playoff series to show us what he can do.

    Pros:
    - He brings toughness to the team
    - He is a good defender (next to Battier, formidable duo)
    - Can be a clutch shooter sometimes

    Cons:
    - His ISO plays make me sick.
    - Sometimes, he is wayy too volatile, and literally TRIES to create chaos on the court.
    - Gets himself into trouble, doesn't really know how to control himself sometimes.
    - Bad play = he jacks up a shot at the last second.

This being said, I would wait. And probably, so would Morey. Morey definitely has something planned, before he decides to sign Artest.

With the success of this postseason, I'm sure Artest would also wait for the Rocket's decisions to sign him or not. He's not just gonna immediately walk away after today.
