The only reason (in my opinion) Yao was wanted for this Asian Championship was the fact that China just appointed a rookie coach (only 34!). This rookie coach, Guo, must have been desperate to show that he can do well and it would have been much, much easier with Yao in the line up.

The Chinese team also appointed former Australian men's basketball coach Brian Goorjian to help Guo out.

So, not needing to play for China this year is the silver lining to Yao's injury. That and the fact that we match up *better* with the Lakers with our quicker roster ;)

Well anyway I'm happy that Yao has his rest. :D

In China, there is also a good number of people who doesn't want to overwork Yao (of course the same with Yi and Sun) in those crap games, but you just never know what's in those crap officals' minds.

That's why there is a report button in his post.

I think he needs a timeout more than anyone in this board.

You don't understand about Chinese politics. They were probably glad to have an excuse not to play Yao.

    Thank you China !

I think they know he overworked it last year, and they can win the Asia games without him.

They are just being smart with their best player as he approaches 30.

Im not trying to be nasty, but i've read all five of your posts and four of them state you're from china. We get it, at least i do.

It's about time Yao got his rest.

that's a good point and i thought the same way instantly after i read this.

yao probably wouldn't have played regardless and now his injury comes handy so that all parties (yao, rockets, cba) don't look bad.

I'm a Chinese. I guess they would rest Yao anyway, but the injury gave them a much more convenient explanation for resting Yao.

Besides, even a four-year-old can tell it makes no sense to throw Yao in that unimportant tournament. More than 99,99 percent of Chinese fans would love to see a healthy Yao finally bring a trophy to Houston, which many of them believe is just as good as a trophy to China.

The truth is, Yao must obey whatever decision made by CBA as written on his contract.
Finally Yao will get a break he deserves.

Dude, such a statement doesn't sound quite pleasant to my Chinese ears.
