He's boxy and stiff with his movement, and I love piling on this meathead like anyone else. Though this vid doesnt look near as bad on a 2nd look like it did the first time....
awfully accurate comparison.. if only Dorsey were able to provide us with some motivated Kelvin Cato production.. on the other end..
someone explain to me why we might ever need James White in this series. Barry has barely gotten off the bench, and even Wafer hasn't played a ton. White is behind both of them. OTOH, Cook has had to come in. If Scola, Landry, Hayes are in foul trouble and this game goes OT or 2OT..do you want to lose in Game 7 because we had James White sitting on the bench doing nothing? I'd rather have another big body considering our propensity for picking up fouls at this point, and their size advantage that is magnified when Hayes is out of the game.
For all of the defensive minded people on the board, I don't understand why they would not like this move. Dorsey should be just as good and probably much better than anyone coming off the bench after Hayes and Landry. He would not be expected to score anymore than Hayes is. I have not understood to this day why Cook has gotten ANY minutes on this team. I would have expect us to go small first and play Barry more..or even White...but COOK? I understand Adelman's position here possibly. If the refs call a lot of early fouls on our big men, we lose by 40 again unless we can get some defense in the low post. Regardless of how little playing time Dorsey has had this season, virtually none, he is the best option that we have at this time to give us some decent defense down low. The guy was known to be a beast on defense on the low post. At the very least, he can give out the hardest fouls when necessary.
to answer ringin08's question.. apparently Dorsey.. in the NBADL and in practice.. has failed to demonstrate the slightest bit of progress on either end of the court.. defensively.. seeming lost.. uninterested.. and in the NBADL.. foul prone.. this is how a player of Brian Cook's mediocre standing.. gets play time.. over him..
You are probably right, but I will write that off as a young player playing a big role and a college championship contender coming to the NBA and then finding out he aint getting any playing time and pouting about it. I also think Adelman gave Cook a shot because of his years in the league and history of playing for the Lakers...but I still don't get it over Barry...unless Barry is injured or just really sucking in practice also. Barry has been part of a championship team in a major way and has the mentality to hit the big shot when needed. But I guess we will find out in the next game if RA goes with either Cook or Dorsey at all...without foul trouble..it is very likely that we see neither of them.
that was funny. I think back to how they were talking Dorsey up at draft time, and how it has turned out up to this point. disappointing.
can't say anything while Dorsey was not playing much enough during the regular season. Hopefully he couldn't be worse than Brian Cook.
How awesome would it be if Dorsey came in and wrecked a little havoc to help us beat LA? It would pretty much sum up the entire season.
You never know how much his defense can improve with playing against Yao, scola and landry every single day. And alongside deke and hayes. His still young, and he do have the physical ability. So hopefully he is able to show what he have learn over the last season whenever he is on the floor.
Incorrect. Not trading T-wac for Billups and Prince counts big time. Oh, and about Dorsey. I wouldn't mind seeing him pushing Gasol around in the post, knocking down anyone(esp. Kobe) that tries to enter the paint, and making Paul wet his paints from fear of getting his head bashed in. If we were in foul trouble I would rather give a chance to Joey right now than see Brian Cook brick stupid 3pt shots.
I think it's a longshot that he plays, but I definitely think he's insurance on Hayes getting into foul trouble like in game 5. The key in this series has been (a) Brooks going off, and (b) keeping the Lakers frontcourt subdued. If Gasol comes out aggressive and gets a handle on seeing 6-6 defenders, we need a counter. If the game starts slipping away, I'm all for giving Dorsey a 10 minutes opportunity to show us what he can do. Evan
Except, he didn't do that. He got shipped off to D-League for a good portion of the season, and since he came back he's been nursing an injury. Plus the Rockets had a tough schedule that didn't allow them to practice much in the first place. In terms of skill, Joey might have improved, but in terms of experience I'm guessing he's nearly as raw as the first day he walked into Toyota Center.
Dorsey is an instinctual player. He learns by doing I'm guessing. Technique will get better over the years. For now he just needs simple instruction.
I just hope Dorsey doesn't give up key fouls during the game. Hopefully, this might be a coming out party for Dorsey to make the roster next season.
I doubt if he can do that. He has hardly played all year. The best that I think he can do is grab a few rebounds and try to stop someone from coming hard towards the basket.
