After game 3 when the Rockets got blown out, some guys were handing out energy drinks in front of Toyota Center so I went ahead and grabbed one. As I was drinking it, I looked a little more closely at the label and what else did I see but "Black Mamba" right there on the label.

I'll never drink it again :p

Wasn't Uma Thurman Black Mamba before Kobe? Why's he naming himself after a female movie character?

Giving yourself a nickname has been approved by The Chosen One.

Yeah, when he first referred to himself as "Black Mamba" that's what I thought of. Since then, the nickname never really evoked the imagery for me that I think he was going for.

His first name is so distinctive, he doesn't really need a nickname. I guess that's why the media never thought to give him one.

Who cares. While your user name is cwebbster if you look at most peoples user names some of them could be a nickname that they like to use.

While Kobe is a true A-Hole I don't see anything wrong with making up a nickname for yourself.

    Just look at boxing.

A king cobra has nothing on a black mamba - a black mamba is far more aggressive. You're not going to see too many people get on their hands and knees trying to toy around with a black mamba like you do with cobras. Black mambas are some of the most aggressive snakes on the planet.

Kobe can call himself The Black Mamba if he wants - he's that good. I have a bigger issue with Sasha Youthechick call himself "The Machine". I mean seriously... wth? I'd have less hatred for Sam Cassell calling himself "The Stud" than that fool calling himself "The Machine"...

    It depends on the context.

When Shaq gives himself a nickname he does it with that goofy grin. He's just screwing around.

I haven't heard the audio of Berkman suggesting the 'Big Puma', but I'm willing to bet my life savings that he did it jokingly just trying to think of something completely and totally random.

With Kobe again, it depends on context. Was he just joking around, or was he semi-serious about it.

    Frankly, I don't care.

One other thing. LOL at those purple tights. I'm glad the NBA banned those ridiculous things.

Shows you know nothing about those Cobras my friend

the snakes that are "charmed" in South Asia and the Middle East are Defanged, they cannot administer their venom, therefore they're practically harmless.

The king Cobra is the LARGEST VENOMOUS snake in the world growing up to 18 ft in length.

Yes the Black mamba has a more angry demeanor but the King Cobra is the king of all venomous snakes IMO :D
