Actually on several nights over the course of the playoffs, that was the answer - take the ball away and sit him on the bench and let Lowry make the decisions. Uh, Steve Francis ring a bell? You painted yourself into a corner with that one.
True, Lowry is a good backup and some nights a better option....just like Kenny and Sam. Ugh, I don't know...I never really liked Francis that much.....but I will have to grudgingly agree I guess. Mods, please lock this up.......we are all Rocket fans. /Thread DD
Bob Sura was better before hurt his knee. That Rockets team would have beat Dallas in first round even with Ryan Bowen as starting PF if Sura didn't play with a bummed knee. Sura didn't shoot particularly well from 3, didn't pass a lot to Yao, but when he ran the offense, the flow was good, ball never stopped. And Sura had a unmatched ability to get all kinds of loose balls. Bob Sura wass a very rich man's version of Kyle Lowry, too bad he had knee porblem before the end of that season.
LOL man, you say Sam's post is good and then pile on more crap, that's intelligent, logically wonderful and mature.
The irony is that SF was THE MAN and has been the all star, of course, that doesn't prevent DD to complain about SF's dribbling. What's the difference? Just remember, DD is always right.
If we were to complain about Stevie's overdribbling during his rookie year, then yes it would be unwarranted. Complaining about it in his 4th year is totally different.
Nothing wrong with complain AB for overdribble in his 2nd year. NBA PG is not YMCA player, pass the ball around doesn't take an all star to do it.
Bob Sura was a fan favorite and for good reason, but he was also one of the most overrated PGs that ever came through Houston. There is a reason he only started about 200 games in a 650 game career. I'm not saying that Brooks is, or will be, better than Sura but Lowry certainly has the chance to be as good and maybe better. Saying Sura was "a very rich man's verson of Kyle Lowry" gives way too much credit to Sura and not enough to Lowry. Once again, the OP made a lot of valid points in this thread as have many (not all) of the posters criticizing Brooks. The extreme nature of the thread title and some of the comments is what caused most of this back and forth.
Mostly agree. But I still think Sura was much better than current Lowry when he played for Rockets. He was 10/5/5 with 35% 3 point shooting for Rockets, and he got basiclly every loose ball within reach, even better than Scola and Landry in that department. And his decision making was quite good too. Lowry has a lot potential, especially if he can improve his shooting, but at this moment he's not as goog as Sura was.
Brooks just seems to play much better when he has room to maneuver, like he did in the second half the other night and in Game 4. He obviously shoots better, but his passes seem crisper and more decisive as well. And I thought both Brooks and Lowry played great and to their strengths in Game 6. In the first half, Lowry handed out assists and set the table for the second unit, while Brooks turned on his offense in the second half. Great game for our young PG tandem.
BTW here are Adelman’s comments about Brooks during the postgame news conference. I thought it was interesting how he emphasized Brooks’s “in-between game” and shooting over trying to just penetrate the defense. Question: Coach, can you give your thoughts on how Aaron Brooks just basically took over the game in the second half? Adelman: Yeah, you know I thought in the first half … we’d swing the ball to him and he kept driving right back into the teeth of the defense. (But)He’s got to shoot the ball. I mean, that’s what he does the best. And if he does get by (his defender), he’s got to look for his in-between game. He has that, and that’s what’s going to happen to him. He’s gonna learn how to use that (in-between) game, because he has it. But he was unbelievable down the stretch. We put the ball in his hands, we told him to make good decisions and be aggressive.”
It's a sort of cure for his tendency to over-dribble when the team is in the half court offense. Right now he has a tendency to go one speed ... it's all the way or nothing in terms of penetrating in the paint. He has a mid range game he hardly uses. Tony Parker can play a phoenix style offense and a half court offense. Right now AB is one dimensional. He needs to work on changing speeds when driving and work on being more consistent while in the half court. It's easier to be productive when there is more space but he also needs to be effective when the space isn't there. And a mid range game would help him in that regard. A summer with Calvin Murphy would probably be beneficial for him.
Right now, space seems to be precisely what Brooks needs before he can get his in-between game going. He seems to go to his mid-range game later when the Rockets' inside game has opened things up for him (Scola in Game 6), or when he catches the defense on their heels (Game 4). When he does find that comfort level, though, he's been phenomenal. Brooks working with Calvin Murphy is a great idea.
I just wonder who will be handling Lakers' full court press then. I don't think kyle Lowry stand a chance dribbling out of the press.
Have to bump this classic thread. Haters need this when AB is not passing to Yao. DD was totally a troll in this tread.
Troll? I was KING KAHUNA !...I totally owned in this thread..... Wrongicon, WW2, Sam, choujie, tons of posters, all laying at my feet as I am planting the flag of Aaron Brooks across the pile of broken bodies. LOL - just kidding.....this was a knee jerk thread blaming a PG that had started like 25 games in total, but had potential. I think we are seeing the real AB now, and it is pretty darned good. Let's see if any of the (AB is the problem) people are willing to come in and acknowledge that he is better than they thought. No such thing as too much time.... DD
DD, you just know that the first game where AB has struggles we will see this brought up again and thrown back at you. I venture a guess the "struggles" will be handpicked out of what is unbiased probably a pretty decent game. Possibly tonight in Utah.
