I'd rather losing to champions than runner-ups, so thanks....

Neat-o stat but I prefer the alternative of the Rockets eliminating the other team.

    What happened in 93 then?

Will older Rockets fans step up please?

In 92 we wound up missing the playoffs and drafted Robert Horry out of Alabama in the lottery.

I'm now an older Rockets fan :-(

The NBA would rather LEbron win over any body, to justify his hype, MVP status, golden-boy poster child - even over Kobe, former golden boy; but they'd like Kobe to be offered up in sacrifice, for the good of Finals ratings.

Well, if you lose in the Semi's there is a 50% chance that the team you lost to wins the title. For the conference semi's its 25%. For the first round its 12.5%. So we aren't talking high percentages here, but the fact that this has gone on for 10+ games is significant.

1980, we lost to Boston in the finals, but I think the rest of your stats are right.

We have always had great big men and good two guard defenders and teams are just too emotionally drained after playing us.

It's not like people will say you were a worthy team just because the eventual champs beat you, you'll just be a footnote in the history books.

So it's better to spread misery.

Actually those percentages are only right if each team had an equal shot of beating each other not taking into account talent, home court, health, etc. :)

Very interesting find... but why are you talking about the Rockets being eliminated already? We still got this.

I was thinking the same thing. Maybe East team should be removed to make that a logical statement?

From the 1972-73 season to the 1979-80 season, the Rockets were in the Eastern conference. It was when the NBA expanded to Dallas in 1980, the Rockets were moved to the Western Conference along with the San Antonio Spurs while the Chicago Bulls and the Milwaukee Bucks were moved to the Eastern Conference, thus those four existing teams swapped conferences with each other.

As far as the 1977 Championship series is concerned, I would sure like to know how many people on this board remember how painful it was to watch that series after the Philadelphia 76ers eliminated the Rockets in that ECF? Like I said in a few other threads, I would have liked it if the Rockets' last series with the Trailblazers was their fourth playoff series meeting rather than their third for only that reason. Now, I would have actually liked it to have been their fifth if only in 1992 the Rockets would have made the playoffs that year just by winning one of their last two regular season games that year.

Another thing, I felt that the 1993 WCF was painful for us to watch as well. I really felt the Rockets could have knocked off the Phoenix Suns in that playoff round if they had managed to get by the Sonics in the second round that year.
