Got a similar feeling about this team like in '95? Both teams weren't supposed to get far, were up against a higher seed in round 2, somehow managed to get it to a game 7... You see where I'm going with this. Nobody thought the Rockets could win game 7 in Phoenix in 1995, but they did. I don't know what to think about this current team, just about the time I think they are ready to fold up camp and go home, they prove me wrong. A game 7 win isn't very likely, but isn't that a good thing at this point?...
Not really. That team had a healthy Olajuwon, this team is missing their two best players. That's what will make this team amazing if they win it all. But first we need to worry about game 7.
Maybe I should have qualified my point a little better. Do the intagible qualities of these two post season runs prove to be similar to anybody else? Obviously we have no Hakeem now, but if we did, Game 7 would be a lock.
Here's the similarity....if they beat the Lakers, you shouldn't give a damn what the experts say or how the next series looks on paper. The matchups didn't look good in those series we played in 1995...but it didn't matter. Particularly by the time they came back from 3-1 against Phoenix, they were riding something that transcended typical basketball. That can happen.....sometimes. I remember people saying, "yeah, but how are we going to beat the spurs??" yeah, i had heard that before...i heard it against the jazz and when we were down 3-1 to the Suns. so if people say, "how are we going to beat the nuggets"....the response is, "how did we beat the lakers?" or as Aaron Brooks says: "we still don't have a chance, but we'll show up and play hard anyway."
That team had the best individual player in the league, and another really, really good one in Clyde Drexler. There's no one remotely close to that on this team. The resiliency and mental toughness seems comparable, though.
This is the time for the team to get the acknowledgement and credit they deserve. This is the biggest game and defining moment of their careers. We've got nothing to lose but so much to gain. This team is suppose to be led by Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming but they're not here and this team has carried on. The playoffs is where legends are born and dreams are realized. One Season, one series, one game is all it takes. I'm already satisfied with this team so far but how sweet will it be just to eliminated KOBE. We have no all-stars but we have stars and I believe when the stars all come together we can outshine the Golden Sun.
The one similarity I can see is that they are both getting BETTER as the playoffs go on. Both teams had so few games with the core group, that they actually improved in the playoffs. That is happening this year too. DD
But we are without YAO now, this is the series ,not just one game .Even if we smash down the lakers ,Denver won't allow us to get more ,bird-man and nene are much more tough and brutal than the laker's big men .

Put Dream from '94 on this current team and... I think we'll win at least 2 championships. And I am talking about this current team we have right now not the one with Mac/Yao. Dream was basically playing with scrubs in 1994 and won. Lets compare the two teams and you'll see what i mean: OTIS THORPE < SCOLA VERNON MAXWELL = RON ARTEST KENNY SMITH < ARRON BROOKS MARIO ELIE < SHANE BATTIER and 2009 bench of lowry, landry, wafer >>> 1994's bench.
Errr, not so sure about the comparison. Thorpe was a hos. Ron-ron and Max can't be compared, just by their very different games, and Kenny Smith, as annoying as he is now, was a much better playmaker than Brooks currently is. He also had some monster shooting games in the playoffs. I love this current group, but I don't want to dis the '94 folks.
It's fashionable to throw every teammate under the bus, if you want to emphasize one player. Just like what people do when they talk about TMac's Orlando days. Dream is the best player in Rockets history, and a top 5 center in NBA history, no doubt about it. But it doesn't mean his championship teammates are all garbages.
sorry but magic 8 ball says - signs point to FAIL Thorpe was too strong for Scola on the boards and his post moves would be difficult to execute vs. Thorpe AND weakside help from the NBA's all time leading shotblocker AND Robert Horry who was younger and spryer then. Maxwell and Artest - a wash on off defense, both erratic, advantage for 2009 since Artest can play 2-3-4 Kenny Smith then was simply a better player than Aaron Brooks is now- he was capable of exploding from the outside in the playoffs and was/is a better passer, and a better finisher. On defense they both sucked but whatever. Battier vs. Horry - Another wash - two similar players but Battier's defensive prowess is wasted on Horry since he mostly spots up and collects transition/junk points. Olajuwon - Yao - Olajuwon is a nightmare matchup for Yao, 2009 rox would use a lot of Chuck Hayes and double teams. Bench - Sam Cassell, Mario Elie, Carl Herrera vs. Landry, Lowry, Wafer - edge to 1994 because of Cassell and Elie not as one dimensional as Wafer.
wrong dubious in the least only if you look at individual scoring. Kenny was shooting 45% overall AND 45% from deep. 45% from deep. And Aaron has coupled his big games with complete no shows. He BLEW UP in games 4 and 6, but game 3 at home was pretty awful. I'll give you Brooks, but it's not by a large amount. dubious, besides, Elie wasn't starting - Horry was. And Horry was in the least equal to Battier Essentially Cassell, Elie, and Herrera. if Lowry, Landry and Wafer (largely MIA) are better, it's not by much.
