If you can read, read what I said after a 40 loss in game 5. LOL, I'm not DD. You guys take this as a bashing thread, well, read the first post.
Yeah, DD was full of that wine one night and had it going.Wrongecon is just classic. Anyway, after rafer was hurt at the end of last yr, I wanted the team to turn the keys over to brooks. In the offseason I wanted them to trade Rafer and let brooks start and back him up with a vet. The league is setup for a guy like him. In the old days, harper, kidd, and some of those older stronger guards could really do a number on him, but with the no handchecking, its almost impossible to stay in front of a guy like aaron. It may be too early, but I think aaron is going to turn out to be our closer. He has everything except experience. He's a triple threat with the ball. He can shoot it, drive, pass, and is a good free throw shooter. If the team has a lead, just give him the ball and let him make something happen.
Well, he did have a couple nice passes to a moving Landry. That impressed me the most. We hadnt seen many of those types of plays from him. He also had a nice play early to Scola but Scola blew the easiest shot he had all game.
So less Brooks touching the ball = more chance for Rockets to win. Not from where I'm standing/sitting. Not a bashing thread on Brooks, as you are tired of talking about his INability. Now you just laugh. (Seems a lot to me like a bashing thread, since you are bashing his LACK OF ABILITY) Sorry miche, but this blew up in your face big time. PS, I still say you should have gone with Brooks.Must.Make.Better.Decisions for a thread about dealing with some bad things our point guard did.
That impressed/surprised me also. Still, the theory that his passing difficulty at earlier games were due to his teammates wasn't moving bears no support.
Moving helps, but also proper spacing. I remember a couple times in game 5 where Hayes/Scola were in close proximity on some of those drives, and it congested the paint.... But something like that will come with time. Thats why I think its so important for these guys to get a solid training camp with the crew(Brooks/Lowry vieing for the starting point job).
This is dead horse, but whatever. Brooks is what he is, a 5-10 shooting guard who is very effective on offense when his confidence is high. When it's not he's not as effective, and when you give him a number of options he sometimes gets confused. However the Rockets need him to be a shooter/scorer and not a passer right now so he's doing what he's doing and, at least every other game, doing it pretty well. I don't think he'll ever be a good player to pair with Yao since their games don't complement very well on offense but since Yao isn't around a lot of the time maybe it doesn't matter.
Another thing they mentioned in the telecast is Brooks was throwing high passes in the previous game. In game 6, when he made those drives he was keeping those interior passes lower. Steve Nash does a really good job of that -- keeps his dribble alive and delivers those accurate bounce passes. Brooks needs to emulate that style.
Uh, yes that helped a lot......did you see Landry cutting down the lane for a dunk? If our guys camped in the corner would cut to the basket as he drives from the opposite side it would help too. It is ok, Michecon, you were wrong about Brooks, he needs the ball IN his hands for this team to be successful, he is the ONLY hope the team has against the Lakers. DD
Are you referring to the dunk that Chuck Hayes assisted on or the one that Kyle Lowry assisted on? (btw Chuck Hayes is a really good passer...) Carl Landry has been playing the same way all year long DD - it didn't just start tonight. I agree with you now though that Brooks has to see the green light and shoot the ball because he's one of the few good options left.
This is a good post, I think for Brooks to be totally effective with Yao, he needs to have Yao setting the screens at the top of the circle....get more Yao to the high post and free up that baseline for his drives. It can work, much like Parker and Duncan, but again...his teamates have to move their bodies to open spaces when he drives to give him multiple options. He is young, he is growing, his decision making sometimes goes out of wack....but it will get better...heck...Ron has been in the league FOREVER and his decision making is out of wack a lot too. I just think Brooks puts so much pressure on defenses that it opens up the game for the rest of the players. And, isn't it ironic, that the ONE major knock on him has not been a factor at all....his lack of size and being posted up by opposing team's PGs... I think we can all agree that he is a starting scoring PG in this league...and he will only get better. Wrongicon.......you sir have been served !!!! DD PS. Don't worry, it happens to all of us.... GO ROCKETS !
Either, that is an example of what his teamates need to do to help him out....Brooks had an amazing dish to Scola and he blew it...but Scola was moving to the basket. That is how you help a young penetrating PG out, you move to get in his sight level, and to open spaces..... Brooks is going to be fine, I like the Brooks and Lowry combo.....I am a little worried about Kyle's finishing though, he seems to be rushing it a bit in the post season....probably just nerves. DD
You know you spend way too much time on Clutchfans when, during a game, you're thinking to yourself who in this forum might have been right after all.
I agreed with this except for game 6, especially the last 6, 7 mins. It was a different Brooks, he played with head up, looking at both sides of the court when he was on top. When he penetrated, if the lane was clogged,he pulled up for a jumper or pulled out and looked for a different play. He also looked for teammates before he made his move and drove with the purpose of setting up his team mate (ie. one to Landry). He used the PnR perfectly. He elevated his game last night. It was more than the scoring. It was how to use his teammates and play team ball. He was a lot like Tony Parker.
You know what? OP's original idea is right. He thought AB dribbled too much at that time. I thought so too. AB dribbled without purpose in many games against Portland, offesne looked very lost that way. But after Yao called him out Ab reduced his dribble around game a lot, now he either dribbles into the lane or simply passes around. That makes the offense better. Hopefully Artest can take a note and stop those dribbling too.
Obviously they don't allow any of such complaints go against the beloved AB. AB has improved game by game, and the first noticeable part is that he's significantly reduced his dribbling. They claim they're the better fans who're out to kill any knee-jerkiness threads like this one. I think they picked the wrong one.
Huh? If it is about one game, it should go in that games thread, this was a knee jerk thread to the extreme. And it failed miserably. It failed to take into account the other Rockets responsibility in getting open, it failed to take into account that AB was only 30 some odd games into his starting role. It failed on so many many levels the answer was NEVER to take the ball away, but to give the ball to him more often....teach him to USE his unique skillset rather than shoe horn him into some mythical representation of a quality PG. There are many ways to skin a cat, some PGs are pass first, some are shoot first, some are a combo.....each can be effective....but you just have to utilize their particular skillset. AB has something that is unique and that is BLAZING fast quickness WITH THE BALL IN HIS HANDS...... That is a mismatch almost every single night, and he will only get better... Does that mean he will not struggle some? No, all players struggle even Yao and Luis our two most consistent players, but usually young players struggle less and less as they move forward into their careers. So, AB is not perfect, far from it, but he is the best PG the Rockets have had since Sam Cassell and Kenny Smith.....and will only get better. Appreciate him, he is gonna be fine.... In all fairness, I have had my share of knee jerk threads.....and this one ranks right up there...in knee jerkiness..... DD
