Aww. Keep her for a while (not a while a while), but enough to determine if she's got a microchip in her and if anyone else is interested.

Take up Lady Di's suggestion too.

I went over to the OP's house today and picked up the dog. The official story for my husband is that I found a stray and brought her home. She is settled in my back yard and I will keep her for a week or so and look for a home for her. I think she is still fairly young, under a year, and she has a very submissive personality. I already have two dogs, and really can't keep a third. I will run her by the vets later to see about a chip, but I doubt she has one.

She is a mix, of what I am not sure. She probably has some border collie in her, but she is stouter and shorter than a border collie.

GlassHalfFull, you're awesome for stepping up, if only to buy her some more time!

I know of a rescue group that may be able to help. They've been maxed out and have had to refuse some rescues lately, but mostly because they have nowhere to put them. If you're willing to foster, that solves that problem.

They're not a shelter, and definitely no-kill. They're just a group of concerned people who want to save unwanted animals. Give them a try...

And for anyone else who might want a pet... visit the site and adopt! Or, foster if you can.

    KingCheetah... nice work! :D

Well I'm sorry I wasn't there to say goodbye or able to help her out more. She's a sweet dog and I hope she finds a nice home where she'll be loved and properly taken care of.

I never heard her make a sound btw, not a bark or a howl or a yelp or anything.

Just a quick update on Belle, yes she has a name now. She is laying at my feet, very happily chewing on a rawhide bone. She was totally not socialized, had no idea how to walk on a leash or about being in a house. Two days after she got here, she went into heat. That probably answers the question about her age, she must be between 6-8 months.

She is now house broken and enjoys her walks on the leash. She has about 2 more weeks before being finished with being in heat. I am not even trying to place her at this point due the the heat thing.

I quickly decided not to look for her previous owner, as they obviously had not given her the attention she deserves. She is eager to please and has been great for playing with my other high energy dog. My husband is still pretty convinced we do not need 3 dogs, but I am hoping the next two weeks will change his mind.

That's a sweet and healthy looking dog. I say take a picture and print it out black and white and post it around your area if someone who's missing a dog. Preferably I would suggest posting missing stray without the picture and without discription of her look around your area. If they say they have a missing stray, tell them to describe what he/she look like. Also call into any animal humane society in your area and ask them if someone is missing a dog in your area.

Well that's great to hear. Hopefully you guys decide to keep her. If you can't keep her I would say what's best is to walk her around the neighborhood and hopefully someone who is good with dogs will take her off your hand instead of putting her in the animal humane society.

#1 go to vet to see if she has a chip.

She looks like a mix of Border Collie and Austrailian Shepard. Those are very very very smart dogs.

Try and find a home for her. She is beautiful.
