I've been a Rockets fan all my life. I'm a fourth-generation Houstonian. I don't give two craps about the rest of the league. I've been a season ticket holder. I own a business that has been a season ticket holder. I was present when we won BOTH championships. In my office I have a huge poster framed with the tickets for all the games I was lucky enough to get to go to during the 1994 playoffs. On another wall in my office, I have a framed cover of a Believe It Again! publication the Chronicle created which is signed by Clyde Drexler. I have an Hakeem Olajuwon autographed basketball on my credenza to my right. The first thing I bought for my youngest son was a Yao Ming jersey/onesie. I remember skipping school to watch part of the 1986 NBA Finals (back when playoff games used to be on during the day). On my wedding video are comments from my friends, including a comment from one of my groomsman made directly to my wife saying, "he loves you, but he may not love you as much as he does the Rockets." (which isn't true, because my wife is awesome) Whether I think they have a chance to win a championship or not, this is MY team. I'll root for them like crazy, even if I think their chances of winning aren't great. Please don't lecture me because I haven't seen them as a championship contender heading into the playoffs in quite some time.
your bias against baseball is a character flaw i'm forced to overlook because of your love for the rox. when you grow up, you'll learn to appreciate big boy things like baseball. (of course this will now start a 13 page crap-storm on how baseball is evil and i'm evil)
So you are not outraged by my words, just acted like it? I don't get it. No, it's not important at all. In fact, none of the discussion on the board is important. Deckard came to say you are fair to a fault, so others can't say you are biased. I replied with my own observation and opinion, that everyone is biased, including you Sir. You replied with all those exclamation marks and objection. I am really lost here. Anyways, I have already apologized. This is the last time I mention your objectivity. Let's move on.
Why would anyone appreciate a sport where pretty much all their stars are tested positive for steriods/HGH ? Baseball is turning into wrestling.
I didn't act like it. It was my attempt at humor. Perhaps the exclamation points threw you off. Perhaps I'm not nearly as funny as I thought I was. But again, I'm probably a better judge of how I'm feeling than you are....
I don't want to get cheap with Yao Ming. But those are bad contracts that are highlighted there. I don't want to hold those up as some standard...I'm hoping Morey is too smart to pass out those sorts of deals. I'm all for Yao sticking around....but if it has to be with reduced playing time, I'm not real interested in seeing the Rockets invest max dollars into that.
Dude, you could have EASILY shortened this resume of your Rockets fan hood by saying this.. "I'm a 99er" /Thread /Owning newbs /Loyal to why Clutch built this site /Hero
Then prepared to be disappointed. Daryl Morey already said he's going to do everything possible to keep Yao Ming a Rocket. And I'm pretty sure Yao and Daryl both know what he's going to get. It's just a matter of whether Yao will sign the dotted line and stay here.
Asking MadMax if he's a Rocket fan is like asking St. Paul or St. Peter if they are Christians. Joel Olsten: How do we know you are a Christian? St.Paul: Cause I was chosen by the man himself! 99er sucka!
Hey we gave Steve Francis and Scottie Pippen the max, this is probably the safest bet in awhile. He might be injury prone, but he's better than those dudes.
If people have read my posts, you would all know that I'm a big fan of Yao and will defend the dude as much as I can. But people that jump straight to the conclusion on giving Yao max money must not be thinking straight. If it was YOUR money, would you give Yao the contract without even thinking any of it through? With the history of injuries of Yao AND also the history of players of Yao's frame, there is a REAL THREAT of not getting the necessary return on investment. I have said this before, but I believe that guaranteed contracts will be the demise of the NBA. If the Rockets/League can devise a contracts that are incentive laden and with thresholds, we as fans will automatically see a much better game. The lack of guaranteed contracts is the reason why the NFL is the top dog. Now back to Yao. Return on investment is not so easy to quantify when it comes to Yao. He's not the ordinary athlete. He brings MUCH MORE to the organization outside of his performance on the court. The question that Alexander has to weight is: Will Yao's injury risk be fairly compensated by his ALL-NBA performance AND all the other economic benefits that he brings? IF it was just based on his on-the-court performance, then I would really be hesitant to give him max dollars. But the rest of the package that Yao brings seals the deal for max dollars. As an owner, the total package that Yao brings outweighs the risk of injury.
Jesus, it's freaking ridiculous that some posters still think NBA is pure basketball... Yao will get the max mainly because the money and business opportunities that he could bring to the team owner and the city. There are plenty of teams out there willing to give Yao the max or sign and trade him. So, stop that salary cap BS... The only way Yao doesn't get the max is if he demands a lower pay himself... Wake up people, just get out from your bed and see the reality...
So you have been a fan for many years. I get it. What I don't understand is: how is this related to our discussion whether Rockets should try another direction(trade Tracy and Yao) or give the current team another year after finally getting past first round after 12 years?
Never question what a legendary 99er like MadMax says. Just read it and respect it! Damn Mad Max, you love the Rockets more than your wife?
