When they show the show in Korea, they dub all the parts in Korean (duh), even the parts where Jin and Sun are already speaking in Korean. It was just assumed that the Korean audience would understand that there was a language barrier in the first few seasons.

I don't think that makes him bad. He did what he had to do, to have all these guys come back. If Sayid was still with Nadia and happy, he may never have come back. Nadia being killed in the accident seemed Sayid's sacrifice which then set him on his path of destruction and then back to the island...which was his destiny

Damn, this is starting to sound like old Locke/Jack...this show is awesome! :D

    Word on all points. Word.

I dig this as well. Somewhat echos the matrix as well.

Yeah, I think ABC (and others) are going to be all about the second-rate LOSTy knock offs. The Unusuals tried to borrow on LOST's name (hey LOST fans! Come watch Michael!) too. The only show I have curiosity for is Fringe. I'll Netflix it this fall.

    Jesus is my co-pilot...LOL

    Nice

Jesus needed his Judas. Obi Wan needed his Anakin.

The show has SCREAMED theological undertones from the get go. "Christian Shepherd"????
The cool thing is, it's not a Kirk Cameron evangelical agenda. The show borrows on every single faith, past and present. Heck, the Egyptian theology is interwoven perfectly. It's what blows my mind like nothing else. The perfect incorporation of theology and literature, without it being awkwardly shoved in and intrusive, is frankly brilliant on a level that you almost never see in any medium.

Apparently it was "Ricardus" which inferred Latin. I think he did come from the Black Rock after last night.

    Nice

Sobek for sure - who fits the profile of Smokey extremely well. Sobek and Horus (-->Horace) had issues with each other.

    Very good question.

    Yup.

    Agreed

Did he cause it? Or did he save Sayid?

I am thinking that "locke" and the smoke monster are the same.

Ben left "Locke" behind when he went to go talk to the monster and as we have seen smokey can manifest into human forms of people alive or dead...

Smokey as Christian Sheppard could have started the whole thing if I remember correctly the first time Locke encountered Jacob in the cabin it seemed that Jacob was being held there against his will. then christian kept encouraging john to turn the wheel which would have sent him off the island.

I think Jacob is a kind "god" or wished to interact with 'outside' people and help them while the other guy "smokey" lets say wished to keep the island and everything else to himself he probably saw humans as inferior and wanted to keep it to the few natives that were on the island (the ones that built the temples/statues etc)

But Smokey probably was always forced to be subservient to Jacob (if you look at the glyph where Ben encounters Smokey and then "alex" there is a God that is much like Anubis and then a depiction of the smoke creature IMO that seems to be prostrating or serving Anubis) since Jacob probably possessed more power or Smokey could not kill Jacob on his own. Maybe the loophole that Smokey was looking for was finding a mortal to kill Jacob but it was impossible to do so until Ben came around. It is a bit of irony that the man whose greatest skill was manipulation was in fact the one who was manipulated at the end himself.

such a great episode i wanna rewatch this thing asap.

    My thoughts:

Loved Kate stealing a NKOTB lunch box. LOL -Donnie's her fav, cause he's a bad boy. But then she likes Joey cause he's sweet and nice. But Donnie's so hawt. But Joey's cute. But Donnie...

Very cool that Sun found Charlie's family ring (DS, Dexter Stratton) in the crib - he left it there with Aaron before he went on the suicide mission.

I am utterly convinced Hurley is going to rise in prominence. I've been on this theory for a while, but he's now our sole remaining island/Jacob communicator. Also, he was the only Lostie that received specific instructions from Jacob in their flashback encounter.

Liked the subtle bit that Jacob touched everyone that he met in the flashbacks, conferring a blessing. Blessing to help Jules out so much, and how come Miles got the shaft? You'd almost think that Jacob would have visited Claire and Charlie too (though maybe he did)

I definitely agree with the Jacob - Esau parallel. And the Jesus-Satan one. Yoda - Emperor, Dumbledor-Voldemort, Aslan - Ice Witch, etc.

Lots of Star Wars: another Millennium Falcon at the Death Star scene, Sayid mirroring Vader's it's too late for me death scene (I hope he makes it though), Vader killing Obi Wan, etc.

There's a disconnect: Jacob in the foot, versus Jacob in the magically appearing cabin and Jacob popping into the world from 76-->2007. Also, we had a very desperate Jacob eek out a help me to Locke in the Cabin, when he seemed fine and dandy in the foot.

Why did Team Ilana burn down the cabin? Was it actually violated in some way (made unpure)? The machete would seem to suggest Jacob left them a note as to his whereabouts, or maybe that was "Locke"

So Ilana is perhaps Russian, and Team Ilana were directly recruited by Jacob. Interesting. I wonder what explosion she got caught in. I assume Jacob healed her (Jesus & leper) like he saved Locke post-plummet.

How is "Locke" going to come out of the foot and lead the Others? Will they fall in line out of fear? Will he straight slaughter some Others to force them in line? How do you kill a smokey?

That seemed like a write-off for Rose & Bernard. I'm not going to be pleased if Vincent is done playing a role.

So Eloise was the leader, not Widmore. Not until she leaves to have Danny.

Why was Jacob living in a Sobek statue, when that would SEEM to represent the Esau/Smokey half of the pair? Also, what the heck did go down at the statue?

By the end of the episode, I felt some pity for Benry. I suspect that we'll have a Vader-eque redemption for him next season.

The tapestry Jacob was weaving had Greek on it - basically saying "may god give you what your heart desires" - nothing too juicy. "God Loves You as He Loves Me" would've been pretty hilarious.

The cremation of Jacob was definitely something worth noting. Back in S3, the Others held a viking funeral for the chick that Sun shot. Burial rituals are HUGE with this show, though I don't fully grasp the how's and why's and all.

I think The Adversary/Esau was referring to the Egyptians in the first scene when he said that Island noobs screw everything up.

Looking forward to the roles of Christian, Claire, Desmond, Widmore, et al next season.

I wonder if there was a second statue on the opposite side of the island. Yin and Yang and all. Only foot left here, could be the other one is straight gone.

Ben-in-a-box blows everyone out of the water twice in two consecutive season finales. That's just awesome.

actually disregard what I thought in my post above yours re: cabin

now that i think about it more maybe it wasnt Jacob in the cabin itself but maybe it was "esau/smokey" that was trapped in there. I am guessing that after they originally crashed on the island the smokey was going to try to destory/manipulate them so Jacob couldnt use them but jacob instead trapped smokey in the cabin. Maybe thats why he was so desperate for Locke to release him. I think when Ben and Locke came to the cabin they may have accidently set him free to.

Last night's episode when Team Ilana went to the cabin there was a distinct ring of ash around the cabin with a small break in it. Usually in a lot of mythology a circle is drawn around a person/building to prevent something from escaping or prevent them from entering. that circle was broken which probably allowed Smokey to get out and roam free and try to set into motion his own plan. ilana's team seemed to know where the cabin was and that there should have been a complete circle around it.

Ilana said afterwards that the cabin looks like it hadnt been used in a real long time and we have seen christian in there too manipulated some of the other losties telling ben and later john to move the island so I am guessing Smokey used that cabin since most had assumed it was the resting place of jacob and primarily since Ben had assumed that Locke saw jacob in there.

I am guessing team Ilana came to kill Smokey/Esau on behalf of jacob and he told them that it would be trapped in the cabin but seeing the broken circle they knew it wasnt there. They burnt the cabin down so it wouldnt be used again by smokey to confuse/manipulate any others.

I think the ring of ash gives this away. It was some sort of protection / barrier, right? The question is whether it was keeping the forces of the dark (Esau, Smoke Monster) IN or OUT.

If its keeping Esau (I'm going to stick with that name for now bc it fits and I like it) IN, then he was reaching out to Locke for help in Season 3. Perhaps Jacob had him trapped in there, and something changed. Hell, maybe one of the Losties distrubed the ash barrier on their various trips to the cabin.

If it was keeping him OUT, then the cabin has been recently compromised by Esau in the guise of Christian (yet another corpse guise taken by him).

I find it interesting that while most people thought Jacob was at the cabin, Richard always knew he was at the Foot.

    Locke-in-a-box :)

Edit: DAMN YOYO, great minds think alike.

I believe the "good guys" (illana, the buff dude) are actually the good guys, for real.

Maybe, just maybe, the anti-Jacob WANTED the freighter team to get there, so Ben would be forced to move the island, which forced Locke to try to bring back the survivors and save Sawyer/Juliet/Miles etc. Maybe anti-Jacob knew that the only way to get Locke to die was to make him believe that his friends were in danger and he NEEDED to die in order to save them. Keep in mind, the freighter team also killed Ben's daughter, which was one of the reasons Ben wanted to kill Jacob.

In "Some Like It Hoth" the "good guys" abducted Miles and told him that he was working for the wrong team.

The guy in the cabin we all thought was Jacob was in fact Anti-Jacob.

Jacob has been living inside the statue for all this time. In the very first scene we see Jacob inside the statue's foot, there is no reason for him to move all of a sudden, and come back.

My guess is that Ben never knew Jacob at all, it was Richard who met with the real Jacob and gave Ben the instructions. Ben has been coming to the cabin meeting anti-jacob, and as we find out, he has never talked to the man inside the cabin.

When Locke goes to the cabin, he meets with Christian Shepard(and Claire). It is Christian who tells locke to move the island. I am assuming that anti-jacob was controlling Christian. Then anti-Jacob took the form of Alex and told Ben that he must do everything that Locke tells him. At this point, anti-jacob has already taken control of Locke(or shaped into him).

I love how at first, it seemed like it was Jack vs Locke. And then it was Ben vs Widmore. And now its Jacob vs Esau. Everybody else are just pawns.

ok help me remember who told locke from the beginning that he had to die to save the island?

im confused on who manipulated him to get to the point where i guess whoever was locke in the last scene got locke to die to set the whole plan in motion.

Richard told real Locke that after Locke had gotten shot by Ethan. Fake Locke told Richard to say that. So fake Locke was the one who manipulated real Locke into believing he had to die.

Of course, if Locke doesn't die then he can't be a surrogate for Christian and maybe the Losties don't make it back to the island after all. So he was probably right. Locke did have to die in order for them to return to the island. But fake Locke also needed him to die so that he could assume his identity.

good points made by all in here.

    One more thought,

the "Good Guys" group has been anticipating Jacobs death and know they need someone for his surrogate, thus the "Is he a candidate" question for the captain

    oh great point!

just a thought though Jacob still has the same "body" since at least the black rock landed hundred of years prior. From the conversation between him and "his enemy" on the beach you would think that he would have attempted to kill him several times since then and force jacob to have taken another body by now. but you could be right about that but Frank would have to die. Maybe Jacob's "essence" flows into Locke's dead body and then there would be two dueling "Locke" that would be odd, but probably too corny for the writers to do on this show

Okay, just watched it, and I know I'm late to the party but,

What the hell is Season 6 going to be about?

    *Applause for J.J. Abrams*.

My theory on all of this btw:

-Esau or Mr. X, was originally the smoke monster, Jacob/God's enemy

-Smoke Monster takes shapes of other people (Christian, Locke, Esau, Yemi) in order to manipulate (aka Find the Loophole) to get back at Jacob

I'm loving the theological basis, it's awesome.

My assumption is that the hydrogen bomb CAUSED the incident (what happened happened, right?). If that's the case, and Dharma is still around, then I assume Radzinsky will be banished to the Swan, forever doomed to punch in the numbers, as his punishment for releasing the electromagnetic energy. After a few years there, he'll go crazy (with guilt?), draw the island map on the wall, and then blow his brains out.

I think the incident was the release of the electromagnetic energy which required the building of the hatch and the venting of the energy.

From Lostpedia, referring to an orientation film:
The bomb obviously didn't cause that because the energy was released prior to the bomb being detonated. And if the bomb caused the incident, then how would not pressing the button cause another incident?

I see Hurley being the biggest variable in this entire thing.

He's the only one left that has been shown to not flirt with the dark side. Everyone else has some big skeletons in their closets, but Hurley has always been an innocent and pure person. `
