Did we really win game 4?

Hi, I know I'm gonna get a lot of heat so before I start I just want to say I want the Rockets to win and I'll be cheering my ass out for them in Game 6 and hopefully Game 7.

    That being said...

I wasn't very excited when we won Game 4. All of you were screaming how we had won it and how we had guts, etc. and my instincts told me it was an overreaction. My feeling was that the Lakers lost because they didn't show up for Game 4 and underestimated us. That was primarily the reason we won. I know...I know...I'm going to get a dozen or so people here who'll tell me to go to hell for saying that, but I'm not wearing rose-tinted glasses. I totally expected Game 5 to end the way it did today. I wanted to be wrong. I so much did, but being obliterated by 40 points says so much about our victory in Game 4 and that was...we didn't really actually win it. They just let us have it.

    Because, look...

We fought the same way with the same effort and strategy in Game 5 but the crucial difference was that the Lakers actually cared this time. Had our simple " guts and small-ball " tactic really worked, we wouldn't have gotten blown out by 40. The worst part about losing by 40 is that we tried. I can't dismiss this as an effort loss. We gave our best, they gave their best, and they beat us by 40. That's scary.

So the Lakers will come here on Thursday and unless they're smug about it and lose focus, we will be gone. And that's because we didn't really win Game 4. We have no more tricks left. Unless Aaron Brooks scores 81 points, it's over. There's no savior here, no ace left untouched.

    That being said, go Rockets.

Kenny said it best, "Arrogance" of Phil & Kobe lost them Game 4. We showed up with pride and kicked their ass.

But the Lakers are going to be the 2009 Champs, we weren't going to do that to them twice.

I said before, if only we could have snuck by the Lakers, we'd be the 2009 Champs.

jesus, of course we won game 4. and i am so proud of it. it's not in any way an overreaction (however, expecting us to win game 5 in the same fashion would be).

but i will leave you to other members for the heat.

whatever the result is gonna be, just enjoy yourself in the game, and focus on your own business after G6.

i disagree about playing with the same effort.

how are you not certain we just didnt beat ourselves? not saying that the lakers didnt come to ply but OUR numbers where horrible

    we shot 32% (22-89)

we shot 5-29 from behind the arc

we gave up 17 turnovers while only mustering 15 assist as a team

lakers played terribly in game 4 and we played even worse in game 5

We didn't give ourselves a good shot to win game 5, too many turn overs, settled for alot of jumpers, and didn't guard the paint well on the other side.

If we have our players playing better basketball we'll at least have a chance to win game 6. All I'm asking for is a chance!

I disagree, I think Cavs and Denver are better teams.

IF we even regain our composure and somehow do sneak by LA in this series there i no doubt in my mind that the Nuggets would kill us

im a rockets fan till death but imo we would not have an answer for Chauncey, Melo, JR, and Nene all at the same time

indeed.. unfortunately the sefl-examination approach to the team's troubles.. isn't very popular on this forum.. for most fans here.. it's best to "get what we can as we are".. then to even think.. their shortcomings could be self-induced..

poor shooting and turnovers were the key. and the lakers capitalized on them.

next game would be close. rockets at home with their backs on the wall. if lakers manage to stay close til the final minutes, theyd win simply because RA cant make plays.

This just approved the fact that a jump shooter team will never win a playoff series, u just can't have a 50% FT every night.

Can we implement a ban on declaring we knew what was going to happen after the fact?

Original post seems like a long-winded way of making the observation that when your game plan works and you make shots and score more points than the other team you win.

Thx for the insight. This is right up there with DaDakota's "I like good offense AND good defense" philosophy from a few years back....you two should collaborate on the possible creation of a circular disk, mounted on an axle, which can be rotated in order to overcome friction when moving items from place to place.
