I don't like him because he's not on the Houston Rockets and he takes cheapshots at players on the Houston Rockets and is currently playing a 7-game series in the 2nd round against the Houston Rockets.

I didn't think it was all that complicated.

Ronny sux hardcore lol lmao 8==D

Figures... I even read a bit of GARM today, but I'm not surprised I missed it.

(Just read through that thread... why the hell was this thread created?)

I agree with, "True we don't understand him but as the article noted Kobe Bryant has deliberately cultivated a public image that he is being judged on."

But, it is obvious it frightens us both to think about. I think it is the jealousy.

I'm no Kobe lover, but I hate the "he's a rapist" argument. Since this is the D&D, I wonder how many people who insist he was guilty would feel the same way if he was found innocent of raping a black girl from Compton, rather than a white girl from Colorado.

    (Not referring to Kobe)

Rape is rape no matter who or where it happens in my mind.

Besides, If I have to rape a girl just to get her to sleep with me it probably just isn't worth it.

I don't have any problem at all with Kobe or the Lakers. I think they're a greatly talented team that often plays soft and also often plays dirty, out of laziness. But that's okay with me. I root for my underdog team anyway, which is giving the Lakers greater fits than it was expected to even before Yao went out.

But I think the above is largely true of every single Houston Rockets fan. We don't want to win unfairly. We don't blame the refs for a loss any more than you do.

Tonight we just flat out lost. Just like the Lakers did Sunday.

    Two more games to go.

Don't act like you have some access to intellectual superiority. It makes you look like a teenager with an axe to grind.

This is a playoff series, with fans on both sides. The Lakers will probably win because they own the best record in the West and we are missing our two all-stars plus our back up center while they are missing no one.

But we have heart out the ass. The Cavs swept twice against uncompromised teams. Denver's having no problem at all. But L.A. is only holding home court against a team that is missing a max player PLUS Yao. PLUS Mutombo.

Don't act superior. You guys should have swept. We shouldn't have gotten a single win. Every one we get is proof that your team sucks.

Me too. That is stupid as hell and it makes me hate my fellow Rockets fans. He was acquitted. Let it go.

I don't think people aren't respecting what he does on the court. His lack of respect, selfishness, and arrogance is what people have a hard time with. And as mentioned, as an athlete, however you carry yourself in a public forum is how you are perceived (and most of the time reflects your personality). Let's see here:

    1) He runs Shaq out of town because he wants to be the "Man" in LA. The Lakers get a young prospect in Bynum and he wants him traded too because he's not coming along fast enough/ not good enough. See the problem here?

    2) He talks about how last year, it was a "Cake" walk to the NBA finals. No respect for your opponents at all. Again, arrogant.

    3) I' am not sure if it's the homer in me, but it was painful to watch Kobe "He can't stop me" Bryant, just taunt Shane, a guy who is just one of the most professional and most respected guys in the sport. Again, jerk move.

    4) Allegations in Colorado. And the list goes on and on... how do you relate / like a guy like that?

Here's the thing. If he's such an *******, hundreds of millions of people wouldn't love him.

He is what he is. He chooses to be an A-hole on the court at times. You don't have to like him personally. You can factor his personality into his contract though - those who attract more fans make more money. You watch the games, he makes more money.

Simple as that. All he is required to do is fullfill his contract. Outside of that, he can be whoever he wants. He may be an ******* in real life. But you may want him on your team.

I freaking hate Cristiano Ronaldo. However, he is one of the best soccer players currently (probably THE best) and he's considered good looking. Can I take those things away from him? No. Would I want him on MY favorite team? Yes. Do I still consider him someone who I wouldnt hang out with? Hell Yes.

You don't have to like your employees, your boss or your suboordinates at work. You just have to be able to be succesful.

I was born in Houston and signed up for this site because I am a Rockets fan. But I also look at things objectively no matter how close they are to my heart (including women), so your comments are off base here.

I don't know about "hero worship", what I do know is that I admire Kobe's ability to perform his job and don't judge him personally based on things the public media speculates about. Because I don't know him as a person and it doesn't bother me that I can't understand some of the things he does. Because I am not a professional athlete in the NBA, and I don't know what it takes for certain people to perform under certain circumstances.

I think it boils down to certain Americans wanting to feel more important than they really are in the face of excellence. So they look for ways to bring Kobe down to a level they can understand, there are numerous cases of people calling him insecure and a rapist in the GARM (from posters who otherwise post solid stuff) because they can't identify with his behavior.

In Europe, people almost expect pro athletes to be bat**** crazy. They love what the Deoin Sanders and Dennis Rodmans of the world bring to the game, even though those are extreme cases of people driven by narcissism. They acknowledge there is a difference between their own line of work, and the pro athlete's line of work. True, they enjoy scrutinizing the moves athletes and their girls make off the pitch, but they don't wind up loathing them for the reasons people loathe Kobe.

I posted this thread in the Debate and Discussion section for a reason... despite Clutchfans being a Rocket site. The ability to break down defense mechanisms and look at yourself without blinders has always intrigued me.

LeBron grew up in Akron Ohio. He is blessed with the body of a linebacker and the speed of a cornerback which plays a large part in this game. Can't compare the behavior of the two just because they are MVP calibre players.

Alot of this has to do with Kobe growing up overseas and coming to the NBA as a teen... commonly being an "outcast" among his peers. He hasn't had the need to develop the public communication skills you and I have because he achieved stardom at a very early age. He's extremely passionate about what he does so you can't fault him for that.

And most importantly, to the Black Mamba, the enemy is the enemy. It doesn't matter if he's playing against Shane Battier or Kenyon Martin, in the heat of battle, you show no mercy and do what it takes to kill the enemy. Am I right?

To quote Gordon Gekko from Wall Street, "Now you're not naive enough to think we're living in a democracy, are you buddy? It's the free market. And you're a part of it. You've got that killer instinct. Stick around pal, I've still got a lot to teach you."

Agree 100%. It's all about your mindset in life.

I think it's in the realm of possibility that you're taking all of this a little too seriously. It's sports. Entertainment. Enjoy it.

Maybe the fact that he is an ******* has a lot to do with it.

Except that he wasn't acquitted. The charges were dismissed because the girl he had adulterous relations with did not want to participate in the trial.

If there's something on your mind, you should say it freely. I expected a lot more than a few snide comments and childlike snickering in regards to this thread. But hey, some of us have internet reputations to maintain.
