    Never said polygamy is bad
I am saying it is hypocritical to stop at same sex marriages

My basic position is. . . GOVERNMENT SHOULD NOT BE IN THE MARRIAGE BUSINESS PERIOD!

    Which are?

also . . .why are 'SECULAR' objections better than 'NON-SECULAR' ones?

I'm not disagreeing with you about govt. not being in the marriage business. But what you should be upset about is that they are. If they are then they need to be fair about it.

Since they currently are in the marriage business it isn't fair to exclude some couples based on who they are, not exclude others.

I don't think its hypocritical to exclude polygamy because as I've said, there isn't one law that allows some polygamists but excludes others. With gay marriage and hetero marriage that does exist.

Perhaps you could start a new thread on that? The point is they are not the same, and it is on the opponents of such things to show that the government has a legitimate interest in banning them. In other words, let polygamy and incest be discussed on their own merits.

I don't know about "better", but secular objections are the only legitimate ones under a secular government.

What's funny is that you're the only one taking the gill-baby comment seriously (i.e. literally).

I can't tell your monikers apart. It's like watching good Kirk fight bad Kirk and not knowing who is who. :(

terrible day for America. Especially how this bill came to pass.

forgive me for not being extremely knowledgeable on how our government works, but could someone please give me a bi-partisan take on why the people are not voting on this?

They did. They voted for the folks that passed the bill. Not every state is as crazy as Texas, which has one of the worst, most cumbersome constitutions in the country, with countless amendments, a relic of the post-Civil War era. So what you saw was democracy at work the way it is supposed to work. I respect your disagreement with the law, although I certainly disagree with you about it.

It's a great question. They believe they are protecting the good fabric of society I think (?). That's a charitable read.

But it's like trying to make water move uphill or staying dry by running around in a rainstorm. Gay marriage (or complete equivalence) is inevitable.

The people fighting gay marriage could be fighting those horrendous loud fart-a-cycles driven by men during their mid-life crises. I hate those uber-loud stupid motorcycles. Can't we unite behind something worthwhile like destroying those?

who do you think is paying more to fight this battle right now?

My point is societal change. I'll avoid bringing up all sorts of analogies, but in 25 years, we will look back and wonder why anyone wasted time fighting this change. Love it or hate it, it's coming. And it's not going to revolve around lobby money, at all.

equating being gay with bestiality is just wrong.

    Dude, what are you thinking?

As a conservative - don't you think that allowing states to decide an issue of personal liberty is the right course? Shouldn't you be cheering Maine and gay marriage?

Or does conservatism only apply when it fits in with the Church?
