agree. why do we have to trade our two superstar to fit a coach? Don't forget, Adelman who did not pull Yao out as soon as he noticed him injured also has so much responsbility over season out of Yao.
I think he would like Diaw in the HP, or Brad Miller from the 5. Could you imagine Lebron playing the HPost decision maker? Hit the cutter, if not there shoot if defense is sagging, if defense denies the shot attack and score or penetrate/dish, unstoppable.
wrong premise in your post, imo. what is "adelman's offense"? the princeton-like offense he ran in sacto, the yao-centric offense he's run since he got here? or the high p&r we ran last game we beat the lakers? what is jvg's offense? the yao-centric offense when mcgrady was down, the p&r he ran to death when played the mavs in the playoffs, or the run and gun he ran when ewing was out in 99? the point is, any good coach like jvg or adelman, though all have their basic philosophies, is able to run different set of offense based on the players he has at hand. we can talk about who we want in a trade or signing all we want, but to assume there is only one type of "adelman's offense" is not right.
Adelman will coach anyone, he's that good. There are a lot of players that fit offensively what he wants and needs. If you've followed his history, you will know that having slashers are huge in his offense vs standstill guys. If you look at the 2/3 types of his past, you will see clyde, kersey, peja, hedo, christie to name a couple. None of those guys were standstill players. If you look at eddie jordan and byron scott who also ran it, you will see jefferson, carter, butler, and jamison. Again, none are standstill guys. If you want to really see this offense explode, get more slashers and either replace shane or have him as a bench player. Movement off the ball is essential in running the offense he wants. Having guys that can fill the lane and finish in traffic also plays well into what he wants to do.
I would asume that Adelman Offense is Princeston, frist because is what he tried to do when the team was complete, second because is the one that gave him more success, and third, because is noticeable, that this team most nottable improve along with attitude is ball movement. When the team runs the Yao oriented offense, very well, we score a lot, but that offense can be counted, even when we run it the right way. On the other hand, when the team runs the montion offense well, they score until they stop running it, and they score a bunch. I think, to me, it´s quite obvious which is the offense the coach prefers, and which is the offense the coach is forced to play because of his players strenghts. That´s why i said that international players from Argentina and Spain are the most familiar with Adelman´s offense, they run it in their national teams since 2002. I can tell you make a team of Brooks-Ginobili-Battier-Scola-Gasol with Rudy Fernandez and Marc Gasol off the bench and this team will run the Adelman offense Perfectly. Add in a PG like Calderon, Deron Williams and the team contends. Players that fit the best are (in my opinion): PG: Calderon, Deron Williams, Andre Miller. SG: Ginobili, Fernandez, Roy, Redd, Allen. SF: Battier, Nocioni, Turkoglu PF: Beasley, Diaw, Duncan, Scola, Gasol (Pau) C: Nesterovic, Bargnani, Gasol (Marc), Milicic, Brook Lopez, Robin Lopez, Camby.
I dont think Martiin and Gordon fit, the players need to know how to pass up shots in order to play adelman offense, those players would be a black hole.
you has some good points there. but i don't totally agree. any coach has to deal with reality. i agree that a coach, if he had the choice, would like to be able to pick the players he wants and run the offense he prefers. but how often does that happen in reality? adelman had great success in sacto, but measured by record, his peak was with the blazer that reached the finals. a Brooks-Ginobili-Battier-Scola-Gasol team may achieve great success under adelman, but one, how likely are we able to assemble all those players (or players of that type) together? two, even if we have that roster, how much does that increase our chances of winning it all (in the west, i am just not sure)? would be fun to watch for sure though.
Its more about moving with a purpose vs just moving. Its about penetrating players, passes, and purpose. It doesn't matter the backside action if its non threatning to the defense. If a wing player sets up the pick he gets, its more of a benefit vs just running off the pick because the play calls for it. Look at how someone like roy uses a pick vs artest or shane. Look at how someone like wafer uses a pick vs those two. Seth, I disagree about the whole nationality players thing. Not to mention u added shane in there which made no sense. Show me a player like shane that has ever played wing for adelman or his disciples. It doesn't matter what countgry u come from because the portland team had athletes galore and they would punish teams offensively. The kings teams had hedo, peja and vlade, but webber, bibby, and christie werfe vital on that team. The theme is slashers, nothing more, nothing less. Using the offense through rubs, picks, penetration and transition to score points. With Brooks at the point and being a good rebounding team, if the rockets had more transition players, they would score more. If you put marion on the wing vs battier, this team would score 6more points easy.
Win what? Coach RA's ball can't win wc. The only win a wc with no superstar in recent 30 years is piston in 2004. But they faced a broken lakers and had 5 all stars. NBA is a superstar's league.
