I'm not saying the Rockets can get Bosh, should try to get him, or would be able to do so (I don't think they are) - I'm just asking who (assuming both are healthy and not considering age/durability) would fit in better on the court with this core group of players.

    Not considering age/durability?

I'd assume that would be THE huge gap between the two...age at least if you think Bosh's foot problems warrant concern.

That said, Yao fits better because this entire team is built on him and we already have a Bosh in Scolandry as a complementary piece. And I dunno if you noticed, but with no Yao, we have effectively no center or anyone even close to 7 feet on the roster.

...To follow up, Bosh can't play full-time C.

He'd get eaten up alive...he's got nowhere near the strength.

There's a reason why Toronto always has Bargs guarding Shaq or Yao or Dwight and it isn't because Bargs is some elite defensive C.

I think Yao is a better regular season player because, given the amount of games in an NBA season, a team can't really game plan around him the way they are able to do in the playoffs ("oh, I guess starting in game 2 we should FRONT him? I get it now"....)...so he's worth some gimme wins just by being there.
And that is why Hades himself forged Chuck Hayes in the fires of the underworld. I also think a lot of defense is "team defense" - when you are out there with 4 guys who are playing hard and locking down the way the Rockets do, a lot of Bosh's shortcomings wouldn't be as glaring.

I think Bosh gives the Rockets more versatility though as the Rockets could play the same style they played yesterday out of choice rather than necessity and hence stymie other teams adjustments more readily.

I think you can win a championship with yao. We wouldn't have gotten past Portland with bosh. Who knows... maybe we can have both of them by 2010.

    Yao
    Bosh
    battier
    artest
    brooks
    Scola
    Landry
    lowry
    hayes

When yao retires, what will happen with china? They need to start developing a replacement for us. I like it that players that come here get their own shoes and commercials over there.

I actually made a post at the beginning of the season about this. I really believe Toronto is better built for Yao's game, and I think the Rockets are better suited for Bosh's. Bosh would really open the court for several of the Rocket players and we still have a lot of good defensive players who would get on Bosh about playing defense (that actually becomes contagious on this team). Toronto is full of spot up 3 pt shooters all over that team. I believe that deal would make sense for both teams, but I doubt Toronto would ever do it considering Yao's injury history now.

Can a mod edit the above post? It's stretching the screen.

I'd take Bosh, but its difficult for me to separate the age/durability from everything else. Practically speaking, when the Rockets are making a decision on bringing back Yao or going in another direction, age/durability have to be a huge factor.

Yao is a better fit, Bosh is more reliable and would probably still be playing if he was on our team.

Bosh, its not even close. I say that because I can play multiple ways. I can also open the baseline and push the tempo. Is bosh a full time center? No;but I can get a pryzbilla type to do the dirth work stuff and play bosh at 4. How old is bosh, 25 maybe?

Not considering age or durability? How some of you voted Bosh blows my mind.

This thread is an example of why we can not do negative reputation points, Sam would be getting killed for a legitimate basketball topic.

Yao can easily be taken out of the game by being fronted. The Rockets struggle with getting the entry pass to Yao. If a guard comes down to double, he often strips the ball away from Yao. Yao is great against the bigger centers in this league, but struggles against smaller teams. Yao just doesn't dominate unless he is getting the foul calls.

For me, the beyond the durability and age factors, I just don't think you can build an elite offense that is heavily based on the low post game. It limits what the perimeter players can do, because they have to devote so much shot clock, and so many possessions on figuring out how to get him the ball. Having Yao is a gift, but sometimes it can also be a burden.

While I respect the discussion, this is like choosing between being stuck with a hot poker and having your fingernails ripped off. Both scenarios are really painful.

That's intertesting! The raptors fans want to get rid of Bosh. They think he is too soft!

Why can't the Rockets have both. Yao should allow his salary to be adjusted to 59 games a year since that is what he has been averaging in the last four seasons. Freeing that much money will allow this team to compete for some talents not to mention the $$$ frozen on the bench with TMac.

I would not be surprrised if, a few years down the line, Orlando Magic fans (if there are any) are having the same type discussion regarding Howard.
