Why not? Why is it so important that he plays in the Rockymountain Review, so that he can play against scrubs, 90% of which prolly never will play in the NBA, and through some twist of fate might end up in the cba(chinese bskball assoc). While the alternative is for him to play against Top NBA competition in the world games aswell as star players from around the world.

Im an immigrant from Shanghai that has grew up in Houston for the last 10 years. I love Houston and the Rockets (did u know that houston had the most amount of theatres only after NY?), but as a chinese american, its just as important for me how the chinese national team does in the world games. My thinking is that as long as he is able to play the reg season and the playoffs why do i care where he does at the other times of the year. I mean does Cato, Cat, Steve, Walt or other rockets play in the RMR? How many of them even plays that much in the preseason gms? What about other NBA players that plays in the World games? Don't they miss a couple of preseason games also? Its freaking preseason people ( said with the same tone AI did when talking about practice :)

If you're afraid of team chemistry and him not being able to fit the system offensively in the early parts of the, i ask how hard is it for him to hit a open jump shot in the iso play after cat or steve passes (if they pass) to him off of dripple.

If you're afraid of Chinese gov't pulling him out half way through the season i say put those fears to rest also. The Chinese gov't just enter the WTO and is atleast making some sort of effort to produce a better image for foreign investors. I think the last thing they would do would be something stupid like forcing Ming to go back and cause a PR problem. If McDonalds isn't afraid of its assets in China to be seize by the Chinese government i don't think Rockets have that much to fear for its asset that is in Houston. Besides the biggest goals of the Chinese basketball department is prolly the world games and the olympics. NBA is the best training camp for Ming and the Chinese would most likely want him here.

I know what we have to fear when the season starts, him being out of shape when the season starts like Cato. This is a dude who would actually be fit the whole season. I would love for Ming to be in Houston, maybe im bias, i don't know. But i think he is a good enough player and there isn't a better option (plz no more mention of Odom and Khandi, their future salaries are way to much since they both will opt for the max soon along with steve while Ming makes the rookie minium for #1 pick, around what KMart makes for the next 4 years and both odom and khandi have huge question marks towards them earning their wage also)
Hell Ming might be even less of a risk.

    Amen to that brother!
Although I do think the RMR and training camp ARE important becuz it'll help him get accustomed to the NBA's style of play! PLUS he'd get to spend time w/ the rest of the team developing chemistry w/ Steve, Cat, etc.! Team chemistry is VERY important in my humble opinion.....

this is one MAIN reason that i don't want ming, play for his national team just greatly increst he getting injuried and out for the nba season, or quit nba season say he needs to nursing for his national games. this is so crap!
rockets should always be num1, not his nation team, but seems chinese don't think so. so i said, let him stay in china or go to ny, we don't need him!
give me odem or give me lottery!

watchmen, what makes u think odem will put rockets num1, he lit it up with the clips even though he knew he was gonna be suspended. Even if the rocks aren't num1 to Yao, it doesn't mean it would hurt the Rockets. Yao's purpose to come to the NBA is to learn and improve, he will listen and do what RT tells him to do and that should be enough for him to have success in the L. As for your concern w/ injuries, hell anybody can have injuries at any time. Mo T injured himself during the preseason so many anti yao's want to force him to attend. Former redskins punter slit his hand opening a can. Francis's migrane aswell as his surgery was unforseen. A lot of NBA players play in a summer league or something to stay in shape, should they stop?

Players are prolly more likely to get injured if they are trying to compete hard while not in shape (look at Mo T). That's some thing that won't happen with Yao Ming. I don't think Yao has had any major injuries and is know as injury prone. The Nets drafted K-Mart even though he was coming off a injury and nobody knows for sure if he was going to be the same.

The point is no one knows for certain whats going to happen with injuries and i say leave it up to karma :)

Hey, we all know how important dominating the RMR is! I mean, after all, Langhi has put up great preformances for two years now, and look what it's done for his career.

I don't see how Ming spending his offseasons playing against the best international comptetition is really any thing to be worried about. Now, if he was going to miss 30 regular season games a year, and be unavalable for the playoffs? Then I might be a bit concerned.

No doubt, the more competitive games a player plays a year, the better their chances of getting hurt and the less time for their bodies to recover. We've seen several cases of USA Basketaball members having injuries after playing in summer competition. That's a valid concern.

Of course, it is kind of ironic that Houston fans have been upset because Steve Francis keeps getting left off the USA Basketball squad. If we don't care about representing our national team, then why in the world are we letting these NBA guys go and play and risk injury? Shouldn't their #1 priority be to their NBA team? If you want to argue that Yao shouldn't play for China because it increases his chances of injury, then I expect you to also argue against sending NBA players to represent the USA and not to complain when Francis or other Rockets don't make the team.

It's your username. Rollinrockets was making a joke about the irony of a "wizkid" not knowing how to do something well.
