It might. I think he'd be a fool to turn down $17 million ($17,686,100). That salary would rank 13th in the NBA this year. 11th if you disregard the horrible contracts of Steve Francis and Marbury. $17 million shouldn't be an insult. And like I said, if Yao stays healthy next year, takes the player option, and stays healthy the next year, he has a chance of getting a max contract whereas I don't think he gets one otherwise.
You didn't answer my question though, Do you think we can possibly get Joe Johnson in 2010, and what's your take on that?
I was getting around to it. I don't know what kind of contract he's likely to get, but he's not going to take a pay cut. He going to make almost $15 million in the last year of his current contract. So at least that much and possibly much more. The Rockets still aren't going to be far enough under the cap to sign him outright unless they let both Tracy's and Yao's contracts expire. The only real way to get Johnson would be to do a sign and trade with Atlanta. We'd probably have to give up Artest and some others (Brooks? Landry? Scola?) in order for that to happen. But I think that possibility exists with Johnson where it doesn't with Lebron or Wade. The Rockets would have a very good team if they keep Yao, trading TMAC for some valuable role players to a team looking for cap relief, and can do a sign and trade for Johnson. I have no idea how plausible that actually is but I don't think it's entirely unrealistic. If Morey could do something like that, we'd be in good shape.
I hope we pull for Joe Johnson as well, but I don't know about giving up Artest. Sign and trade with T-Mac for Joe Johnson would be nice.
I agree, I can see him taking a paycut so we can get in another star wing player or another star or all-star in general. Yao doesn't care about money as much as he does about winning, and he knows that would be his best chance winning a title here in the NBA.
I don't know how long Yao's career is going to be in the NBA but I'll tell you this. I'll be shocked if he decides to go to another team. Why? because when guys get traded from the Rockets to another team I hear that Yao is sad and doesn't like that. So what makes you think that he would leave the rockets if he doesn't like other guys getting traded. Thats just my opinion
I really don't mind that Yao makes around 15 million right now. Big men generally cost more and having top 1-2 center for 15 mill is a bargain. In the future, I don't think Yao will be signed for max contract. Honestly, outside of Lebron, I don't really see max contracts anymore in the NBA.
I believe he has stated many times he would like to end his career here and would retire if he doesn't. D. Wade, but yeah you are right. Only Top 3 or 5 players in the league are max contract worthy
Why the hell would you want to rebuild this team when the ROLE players on this team minus the 2 Stars just whoopped up on the LAKERS! We just need to replace someone with Tmac's contact and we're ready to roll!!
Agree with you. Look this 2008-2009, Yao lead us passed 1st round, What some guys thinking and saying here?? You really call yourself Clutch Fans?? Omygod, Rox passed 1st round, we'd say thanks to YAO and his teammates, now unfortutely Yao 's injury, SHOULD'T WE wish he'll be OK soon?? SHOULD we talk about giving up him?? The guy write this thread really broken my heart, as well as Yao's heart be BROKEN!!
I still wouldn't mind Redd. I think Yao would open up his game a lot. Redd has had trouble in his career, because he's always had to create for himself and never had a post player on his team. I wouldn't mind Redd in 2010, I'd take him over the washed up McGrady.
