Basically turnovers are killing us. I know you'll have turnovers, but we just have way too many unforced or just careless turnovers. And too many lapses on offense. We can't be playing with are heads down. Personally Ijust felt we played lethargic that whole game.
Lazy passes and the passes with some juice behind it are ridiculous mid-air dishes that nobody is ready for.
Every starter except Battier had 3 or 4 turnovers. Brooks had 3. Or do you think Brooks should get more of the blame because he's the point guard? This isn't a sardonic question but a real one.
AB with lazy passes, Yao unable to hold onto the ball, Artest dribbling into traffic. It is just a mature team vs an immature one... It is not one player, it is the entire team. And double teaming Kobe on his drives is a disaster, stay on the shooters on the outside...... The entire team played very poorly last night on offense and defense...very dissappointing. DD
i think when lakers ratchet up there defense they are up into our guys, putting pressure on them and contesting all passes and catches. this strategy makes the passing more difficult, thus resulting in the increase in our turnovers. to beat this defense, they need guys to make quick cuts/passes and decisive moves towards the basket to take advantage of the lakers aggressive play. essentially the lakers are forcing the rockets to make quicker descisions and play faster, increasing the pace of the game. i think that is why the second unit and particularly lowry has done so well. if you over play him, he just drive pass you or does a quick give and go. where as the first team doesn't have a beat you off the dribble guy, except for brooks who can get out of control sometimes. so they end up trying to beat the defense with passing, which plays into the lakers hands.
i'm actually ecstatic at the way brooks has been playing in the playoffs and my expectations have risen for his future. statistically, everything has gone up in the playoffs and he's shooting much better. i never expect him to be a great playmaking PG, but decreasing TOs is always good. he's learning. but if u saw the other thread, i got killed for defending the guy against absurd criticisms. he's the new scapegoat.
Our second unit is excellent because we have the defenders in Hayes and Landry to get stops and secure rebounds. They also run at every chance so the turnovers are significantly less.
when is the pg postion NOT the scapegoat around here? everyone wanted sam over kenny..matt maloney and brent price, bryce drew?!?! (nuff said)....stevie with his overdribbling..rafer with his tear-drop..now back to a overdribbling pg. when will it end? for what its worth though...i think our pg's will be fine if we cut the turnovers down and mature a lil in our shot selection
it is turnovers that make us get this failure at home, coach should constrict the speed of the young person, lowing the turnovers with their best, just doing this can help ro beat la!
It's easy to see whats causing the turnovers. For one, its extremely difficult to drive to the hoop with Yao in the game. You have to go past your defender as well as finish over Yao's defender. So when Yao is being defended well, we're essentially a jump shooting team. Secondly, our starters are constantly trying to look for the open man, but its very difficult since the driving lane is so small with Yao in the game. This makes driving and dishing to an open man very hard. So, with no inside game, no driving lanes, and no shots falling, all hell breaks loose. There's a lot of one on one play by Brooks and Artest trying to create something out of nothing, and every one of our shots is contested, and that's only when we're lucky enough to get a shot off. Most of the time our starters get turnovers by trying to force it to Yao or driving and having to finish over 2 big men. When you run, you dont need to think. The game is faster and you get in a rhythm. The reason our 2nd unit is great is because Landry and Hayes can run with Lowry. Also, in the half court set, Lowry and Wafer have free reign to dribble drive since Landry can step out from the post quick enough. It also helps that Landry and Hayes are both terrific rebounders who often give us 2nd chance opportunities. As a result, our bench plays superb with limited turnovers, and a flow not found with our starters.
The turnovers by Brooks and Artest just destroyed us. Too much TOs, Yao said it on ESPN. The coach said it on ESPN, but the same thing will happen again if the ball is on these two hands. They turn the ball over in the middle of the court, we do not have any player to play defense if you are doing this. This has been a problem for a while, I do not see much improvement, need change the player.
Careless careless careless The Rockets are not decisive and careful with the ball, so the Lakers can lie in the weeds and jump the pass that anybody can see coming (slow, lazy passes in too many cases), or just poke the ball away because it's exposed. The lazy outlet passes off a defensive rebound, giving them the ball right under their basket with our defense out of position, have been real killers. They need to make quick passes when the opening presents itself, or fake it to get the defender to bite, opening another passing lane going the other way. As someone else pointed out, the same lethargic approach is killing us on the boards too. Got to get back to fundamentals and regain composure to get back in this series.
Agreed, after looking at the stats from last night, this seems very true, poor play last night from the whole team. Turnovers: STARTERS L. Scola - 3 S. Battier - 1 Y. Ming - 3 A. Brooks - 3 R. Artest - 4 BENCH K. Lowry - 0 C. Landry - 0 V. Wafer - 2 C. Hayes - 1 But now after looking at the stats, it seems more like our starters that had the TO problem. 14-3 compared to the bench. And I'm sure someone will tell me it's just because the starters played more minutes...I know...but, hm... And shooting 31% from 3pt land doesn't help either...Ron 2 for 8...Wafer 1 for 4...ewww...
Well, when you have a C that cannot receive a single pass in transition, a PG that is not a PG an SG that is not an SG and a good defensive team, this happens. Anyway there are ways to stop this turnover rain, but we all know that it won´t happen. Stop trying to force feed Yao. Basically 10 of those turnovers were on passes to Yao, i remember 2 passes where he was moving towards the basket and guys tried to assist him, he just couldnt catch the ball, he doesn´t have good hands. I would say use 10 seconds to feed Yao on the post, nice and easy, if it can´t be done, have a backup play, and make yao go for position for the offensive rebound. We did this in the Portland series, and for any reason we have loss all faith on our role players. This won´t happen every time.
