The Queen of England recently celebrated her golden jubilee... 50 years on the throne.
She had a big ol party with a concert, fireworks and fanfare only the British could exude...

it was a Beatles/John Lennon reference. This was one of the jokes he made when the Beatles played before the Queen during their MBE ceremony (?) back in the 60's.

    funny line.

Yes I know, but it was actually made at a "concert for the queen" in 1963, 2 or 3 years before their MBE and nearly a year before they did Ed Sullivan. But my question still stands...what cheap seats????

Speaking of (not) cheap seats, anyone else offended by the ticket prices for the Rolling Stones show at Reliant Stadium on January 25th, 2003? I'm very happy that I saw the Stones when they were still good (Rolling Stones, ZZ Top and the Fabulous Thunderbirds at the Astrodome in 1981), because $350 is mighty damn steep for a bunch of geezers pretending they are still in their 20s. I remember freaking about the Stones ticket price in 1981...$18.50!

Royal Variety Command Performance; November 4, 1963, to be precise.

As to the price of Stones tickets, don't blame the bands. They are all just taking the "going rate." That rate is set by the Ticketmasters and Clear Channels of the world.

There is plenty of blame to spread around. I have the freedom to choose not to go. And at $350 a pop, it just isn't worth it.

Yep, but the next guy over will. Even at these prices top-selling sixties and seventies acts can fill arenas. The promoters are determined to find exactly what the breaking point is.

I have it on pretty good authority the Stones, Paul McCartney, and the Eagles had nothing to do with the actual pricing for this summer's tours. The acts themselves only told their management that they wanted tickets priced "the same as for other top acts."

I'd never thought I'd say this:

"hey, guys, when does it appear on VH1?"

I'm a Brian May nut, he rules, and I wanna tape it...
