I see his marginally shorter arms (when compared to other 7-footers) as a good thing. It means he won't be as "gangly" and will probably have better coordination.

Willis was always accused of having short arms, and I think he had a pretty decent career. Ming can touch the rim flatfooted. He doesn't need long arms.

I read somewhere on an article posted on this BBS, that it was 7' 4", but you'll have to trust my memory, since I can't use the "search" function.

    Now . . .

Where did I leave those damn car keys again . . . :p

Ming's wingspan is 7'4" I believe. Interestingly enough I also believe this is approximately Nene Hilario's wingspan.

Hilario is also 6, perhaps 7, inches shorter than Ming Yao. However, if Hilario is as quick and active as Mourning (also 6-10) in the latter's heyday, he could be a real steal for some team. However, Hilario would have to converted from PF to center. All of Ming's history has been at center....and a center is what we need most. Ming with relatively "shorter" arms is a better gamble.

This is an excellent insight. Ming would have better leverage to reel in a rebound given the reach is the same. Sorry, I got carried away a moment ago and forgot to say "thumbs up" on the observation.

Geez guys it's not like he is going to be in the sequal to "Over the top".

His arms are fine......and he is skilled, and young.

All aboard the Orient Express !!!

    Ming is the thing !!

I hear he's got a 12-inch unit. Which should really help him on offense, because nobody wants to guard him too close.

Thank god he has skinny arms too! Everybody knows that skinny arms are better for tipping loose balls to the perimiter!

Wingspan is a rediculous way to to measure someone who is 7-5. No one is going to run around his arms. What people should be concerned with is how tall he is from head to fingertips straight up. I'm guessing he'd be as tall as Bradley, and taller than everyone else in the league.

    How sharp are his elbows?
Is his neck strong enough to hold up his big head?

"With only 7 percent body fat and a 7-4 3/4 wingspan - exactly the same as Yao - Hilario has a sports background that began with soccer, judo and track. He has developed tremendous coordination and foot speed."

Just thought it would be a good comparison of their arms.

I'm sure Ming's arms are long enough, but I've got to admit that I think of a T-Rex when I see them.
