The biggest difference between the two other than the fact that MJ can't be touched by Kobe is that MJ talked trash TO WIN. Kobe talks trash to fulfill his giant ego.

I'll take Yao over Kobe any day. Now if I had to choose between Kobe and TMac now, I'd pick Kobe.

MJ was a POS, no question about it. However, Kobe is much worse because he's not even his own man. He's just a caricature of a player who grew up wanting to "be like Mike" so bad that he never developed his own identity. Furthermore, due to his cushy, silver-spoon upbringing he's always gotten his way, from the day he forced his way into LA to the day he forced his way into that girl in Colorado. He is a skilled player, but a sorry excuse for a human being.

The clueless revisionism in this thread is amusing to say the least.

Agreed. The left is a fierce competitor - the person on the right is someone begging to talk smack (and show it), but when it really comes down to it, doesn't have the mental stamina to endure.

I absolutely loved Kobe growing up, but I think ever since he's grown up in the league (I was going to say mature, but realized that was the wrong word) he has become more irresponsible and his ego has continued to increase.

I agree, as it stands right now, no one in the league can touch Kobe Bryant. Not LeBron, not anybody.

But the bigger point is, as it stands right now, no one in history can touch Michael Jordan.

MJ is truly the god of NBA, no matter how you look at it. Statistically, leadership, results, determination and mental state is unprecedented. I read a biography on him and he is easily one of the top 5 most motivated people I've ever seen.

this always proves to me that 95% of the people who are "Jordan" fans don't know anything about him or saw him player.

I don't talk too much about players I never saw like Russell or Chamberlain.
But fake Jordan fans are the funniest. I once talked to this "Jordan" fan who dissed the Rockets of old (of course) and I told him to name me Jordan's head coaches in Chicago. "Oh he only had one coach, Phil Jackson".
"Jordan never lost in the playoffs"
"Jordan always beat the Rockets"

Talking trash is talking trash. Lol @ saying one talked trash to win but the other does it to fulfill his giant ego. Are you even out there when both players have trash talked?

And taking Yao over Kobe anyday. Well that is a discussion for another day.

Yes MJ has trash talk and gotten into other players faces, however he never resorted to dirty plays or cheap shots and he never elbow other players and his teammates the way kobe did. Unlike Kobe, Jordan never ran all over the court like a little girl when the calls were not in his favor.

Yes there was a very few questionable calls(controversy on travel) due to human error on MJ back then, but it did not determine the outcome of a 7 game series. He always came back with a scoring terror of 15 to 20 pts in a single qtr by contested JUMPSHOTS. Jumpshot after jumpshot there was no way to defend him. And remember the league back then was not as guard friendly as today. There was no restricted area or 3 sec violation. Patrick Ewing would camp at the post waiting for MJ. If Yao did that today with the combination of refs bias, restricted area and 3 sec violation, Yao would be an audience throughout the series.

The league is pampering Kobe very well. Look at 02 conf finals against Sac.

Yeah dont post on a thread about comparing Jordan to Kobe if you never watched Jordan play lmao.

Superficially Jordan has similarities to Kobe. This is not surprising since Kobe modeled himself on Jordan down to his cadence in interviews.

Jordan talked ****, he played dirty (tugging on guys' shorts, pushing off). He acted a bully, he terrorized his teammates.

The primary 2 differences between Jordan and Kobe is that

    1) Everything Jordan did it was for the game. He never lose control on the court. If he talked trash it was to try to mentally take you out of the game, if he pulled on a guys' shorts it was to try to slow him down. You would NEVER see Jordan just flail emotionally like Kobe and knee guys for no basketball advantage while he was sitting on the floor because he got beat and couldn't handle it.

    2) Jordan got as good as he gave. The rest of the players in the league didn't really put up with Jordan's bull**** until late in his career. Jordan got the hell beat out of him by Detroit Bad Boys and Boston. He was no punk, if he pushed he expected to be pushed back. If he got beat down he came back the following year harder. Jordan was pampered by the refs but he didn't go running to them for protection

In FORM Jordan and Kobe are similar. But in SUBSTANCE there is no comparison. One is a hard competitor who might use every advantage (even some unfair) to get an edge IN THE GAME. The other is a bully whose narcissistic and cruel persona spills over into non-basketball areas in the court and his personal life.

If Jordan got beat ON THE COURT. His pride demanded that he get his retribution ON THE COURT. If you smoked him... his pride demanded that he smoke you with a ball in his hand on the court. For Kobe getting beat on the court is just as easily defused by a cheap chop to the neck or a bailout technical on his opponent by the refs.

    No comparison

    Jordan's urban myths > Kobe's urban myths

    I like how he's considered a "GOD"

This shows you how powerful Nike and the NBA were to market him.
He was absolutely spectacular as a player, but any of his faults or failures were never mentioned.

that 63 point game in Boston, the Bulls got swept, but nobody remembers that. People 'assumed' the bulls at least won one game.

    what about Detroit and Dumars?
what about 95 against the Magic?

This is somewhat similar to how Tmac fans adore Tmac in Orlando, but that is based on their stupidity not Nike and NBA's marketing juggernaut.

I think Jordan came to Sharpstown Mall once in the 80s and people came there like it was Noah's Ark.

Getting tickets to the Lakers game? its not too hard at Toyota Center.

Jordan in the 80s/90s? I tried to get tickets at the beginning of the season. SOLD OUT.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Jordan would trash talk w/ guys who would give it back. He wouldn't do it to scrubs or non-superstars, he'd take it to their best guys.

I can't imagine Jordan would pull this stuff w/ guys like Shane.
