The Lakers didn't show toughness, they showed the true color of a team in fear.

It seemed to fool Doug Collins... I used to like Collins somewhat, but the way he called that play last night was just ridiculous and shameful.

I think it surprised him and it was the only way he COULD call it without making the Lakers look any worse than they already did. I truly believe that at least Collins is hoping for the Lakers to win the series with a little heroism thrown in by the Rockets along the way. Well, that came in game 1 so he was stunned and a bit upset in game 2 when the Rockets would not go away. He almost wanted to say"OK, you got your "Rocky" moment, now please leave the Lakers alone so they can get prepared for the Nuggets."

With all that talent, I'm a bit disappointed that they have to resort to low blows in order to throw some fire into their game.

It's almost like they're expecting to get away with it...

The majority of Faker fans are delusional, so they probably think that somehow this cheapshot has turned softies Odom, Gasol, & Sasha (== female Luis Scola) into grizzled soldiers. In fact, you'll see them wilt under the pressure of thousands of rabid fans tomorrow. This series reminds me a lot of Fakers-Pistons 2004, where the Fakers escaped with a split only to get wiped away on the road.

BTW, Faker fans actually think that the refs are out to get them! This, after the 2002 playoffs debacle. I KNOW Adelman hasn't forgotten about that one. Hopefully with the media onto the Fakers dirty play, the refs won't give them the same leeway as usual, but I wouldn't count on it.

Great post and I agree with most of it. Pardon me for being picky but the Showtime Lakers weren't above taking cheap shots and dirty tricks. Guys like Kurt Rambis and Mitch Kupchack were the designated enforcers on that team so Magic Johnson and Kareem didn't have to get their hands dirty. Pat Riley all but admitted that in the 1986 WCF that it was their strategy to try to get under the skin of Olajuwon and Sampson.

So you guys don't think the Boston Celtics in the 80's weren't throwing elbows?

    Good post.

That is almost exactly what I was thinking - what the Lakers did is what a team does when it is frazzled and intimidated. It lashes out, equating violence with toughness.

I have not watched many Lakers games, but even still I was astonished at how classless that team has become. And I believe they were truly shocked to look up and see themselves trailing in the 2nd quarter, after having come out and hammered the Rockets early.

I think that at halftime, Phil told his team to step up and show some spine, and for a team that is essentially lacking in intestinal fortitude, coming out and taking cheap shots is all they were capable of.

And Fisher? Well, he did play for Utah for a stretch. Frankly, a 1-game suspension is not enough for that stunt he pulled. He is officially a punk, and that extremely dangerous move he did could have been horribly damaging to Scola - had his elbow been a could of inches higher, it could have turned into another Kermit Washington episode. Or had Scola not been made of, apparently, granite, the back of Fisher's squishy potato head could have shattered bones in Luis' face - heck as hard as it was, it could have been life-threatening, especially when it came out of nowhere like that, a total sucker-punch. Move like that? To me that's a suspension for the remainder of the year.

Not like he is essential to the Lakers' success anyway. I am just talking about how disgusted and angry I get every time I see that little punk turd wind up and lunge himself into Scola. Total bush-league, and so is the team who was high-fiving him as he was removed from the court, and so are their fans who were cheering.

Ok Rox, it's time to strap it on and send those little kitties back under their rock where they belong.

I don't mind the elbow by Kobe, but at the same time Artest should be able to elbow him right back in the face without the refs interfering.

Lakers have refs to protect them in this series, if it wasn't for protection of the refs they would be injure by now.

You may be right, but all I am trying to do is to express the way i feel to fellow fans. I can't make it to the game, but I really wish I could be there.

I'm happy to hear that a lot of people get fired up from reading what I wrote, that's a great feeling and I'm happy to fire people up. Let's go Rockets!
