The NBA brass should enjoy their ratings success for the meantime because the next few years its ratings will be about 30 to 40% of what it recieved on NBC. Why? Because next year a comparable Game 7 of a conference finals series will be on TNT or ESPN. Going to cable always equates to lower ratings. I guess for the NBA, ratings or popularity takes a back seat to money.

Who knows with the way the NBA is going maybe the next tv deal could bring the NBA Finals exclusively on PPV.

Well, cable ratings get judged on a different scale. I think it goes by the 18-30 male demographics. No doubt they'll get less ad money for each game, but I'm sure cash money Stern has it all plotted out.

While NBA cares about its ratings, the networks care even more. The NBA has already made the bulk of its moolah by selling out to a bigger TV contract. So if anything, the NBA doesn't have to worry for five more years until the next TV contract is up. I don't know the specifics of that joint NBA/Time Warner channel.

Pay Per View would go against their grand scheme for the game, total world domination. I really hope not because once it starts, the NFL and MLB could easily follow.

    It's a ABC/ESPN Deal.

Do you really think the National Basketball Association is that stupid?

The NBA Conference Finals and Finals will be on ABC, just like this year.

ABC=Non Cable=same ammount of money towards the NBA

Now how stupid and greedy is the NBA? Think about this: next year ABC will broadcast the NHL and NBA playoffs. NHL will have a maximum of 10 games on ABC while the NBA will have a maximum of 12 games.

So how is that different from NBC's coverage this year? This year, NBC was slated to broadcast 33 games of the playoffs (the rest were on TNT and TBS). Next year, ABC will broadcast only 12 games (the rest of will be on TNT, ESPN, AOL). In essence, if you don't have cable and you are an NBA fan, you are screwed.

The All-Star game is also on cable. Though I doubt it could ever be like that game two years ago.
