This wouldn't really surprise me if it's true. Isn't Rasheed the same guy that said years ago that compared the plight of the NBA player to slavery?

I looked this up and here is the quote from Rasheed:

“That’s r****ded,” the eloquent Wallace opined. “In my mind, it’s kind of like a slave and master or father and son. You’ve got your little son and you say don’t say nothing back to me — and to me, that’s totally wrong. It ain’t like that in any other sport.”

Well, this at least answers the question as to what motivates Rasheed Wallace: money or a championship?

While I definitely agree with you on how horrible Sheed has been this year, I'm still thinking he could/would make a big impact for three teams next year, the Spurs, the Celtics and perhaps the Magic.

Yes hes 35 and coming off a year in which he makes T-mac look like Micheal Jordan, but atleast part of that is attributable to his lack of motivation due to the state of the Pistons, from trading billups to dissatisfaction with Curry as well as injuries. Which is not to say Rasheed Wallace is going to be an all star next year if hes motivated, but he might... on the right team... still be a very good player that priovides excellent defense and range.

Imagine a frontline of Sheed/Duncan, Garnett/Sheed, or Howard/Sheed. Rasheed would fit perfectly on the Spurs Celtics and to a lesser extent the Magic. Both the Spurs and Celtics have strong personalities, lockerrooms, leadership, identity and defensive philosophy. Both teams have championship aspirations and both of them would have a great chance of revitalizing Wallace's career and motivation.

While the Magic lack the personalities and leadership of the the Spurs and Celtics, they are championship contenders and have an ideal role of Wallace, namely play defense and shoot threes, which would likely be his role as well with the celtics and spurs. Though perhaps a longshot, the thought of a refocused Rasheed Wallace paired with Howard, Duncan or Garnett in the middle should be a very scary thought for the rest of the league.

Pfft. $5M?? If he couldn't feed em on $21M, $5M won't even be enough for a loaf of bread in the Spreewell household.

He is too old to think about. Any halfway decent team (Spurs) would probably think the same thing, even for a full MLE.

This is a guy you put up with because he used to do quite a bit of positives (hit the 3 from the wing, excellent all around big defender). But now he is mediocre in his former positives and going downhill fast--with still on court negatives and possibly completely unmotivated.

If I was picking a vet off Detroit I'd rather role the dice for The Answer (who just might have something to prove, but still a gamble) or McDyess (the one old big playing well & hard for that team). I would gladly take McDyess to play the Deke vet min role for the Rockets--maybe pay more.

If I was picking up a vet from Detroit it would be Hamilton. If we could somehow trade T-Mac's contract for Hamilton and maybe another expiring that would be great.

Yeah I think Hamilton would work well here.

Prince would be nice too, although unnecessary with our current lineup.

Those two guys are under contract and would require a major trade.

AI, Sheed and McDyess are free agents.

Like I said, I'd love to pick up McDyess for the Deke role (veteran min). A tad short for a center--but enough size to get by in the back-up role. I'd even think of part of the MLE for a short contract with him.

It seems whenever a pro athlete makes this type of ridiculous demand they are bankrupt within 5 years.

    Nice knowing you, Sheed.

Seriously though, someone's gonna take a chance on him at the MLE. My gut says the Spurs. This is exactly the type of signing they've thrived on for the past decade. They don't make the big splashes, but they rely on a solid veteran who can still contribute at a reasonable price. However, this is also the same strategy that has caused them to age at an insane rate compared to other Western conference teams. But still, I'd take a few years of struggling if 4 Championships came before it.
