Take it from a UConn fan, Butler is the real deal

I signed up for this BBS after the draft lotto. Although im a casual fan of the rocks i never really heard of this site until recently. What i felt that i had to mention is that, being a huge UConn fan living in Connecticut, I know that Caron Butler will be a fantastic NBA player. He came to UConn an unpolished troubled kid and truly grew as a man and as a player. I'd rank him as more dominating than Ray Allen ever was. Watching him all year and seeing his national coming out party at the NCAA Tourney, he is definitely a guy who could be considered the best in the draft.
Since i also live near Boston and catch Celts' games I've been able to see Paul Pierce play and yes, its true, Butler does have the same style of game. His slashing style was unparalleled in college and his will to win will only make him better. This guy has the heart of a champion.
Well, to get to the point, I think that the Rockets, regardless if they select Ming should try as best they can to get this guy. Although Ming seems to be the no-brainer pick these days, it may be good to perhaps try and use the 15 pick and kt maybe to move up and try to get Butler. He would fit well with Houston's offense and his no holds barred style of going for every loose ball and offensive board would be critical. Even if we look back 6 years from now and Ming has become a solid if not spectacular center, it would be nice to know we got a sure thing out of the draft in Caron Butler and that he's around too.

If Butler were going to be drafted in say the top 6 or 7, who would take our deal of Kenny and the 15 for their pick?

If we could pull that off it would be fantastic. Butler would have to fall to maybe 9 or 10--then maybe Phoenix or Miami would go for that. I don't see NY or LAC going for KT given their similar or better short PFs. Clevland could use KT, but then you ask yourself would they rather have Gooden or Wilcox minus the #15 pick. I don't think KT and the #15 is worth giving up a shot at a player of that caliber personally.

It is a long shot (Butler staying on the board long enough so we are in range), but man I would be jumping for joy getting IMO the best all around SF and perhaps most ready to play player (Butler) plus the best center prospect to come around the last few years.

Welcome, waran007! Thanks for the insight on Caron. I would love to get this guy as well. He would be a perfect fit on the Rocks. Butler strikes me as someone Rudy & co. would be drooling over. Waiting to see how everything plays out is driving us all a little crazy (well, more than a little!). Stick around, and we'll see what happens. :)
