Detroit, if they renounce their free agents they could be around $24-25M under the salary cap.

Trading for McGrady's expiring contract would give them a one year rental of a "superstar" while still keeping them in the 2010 free agency game.

If McGrady successfully comebacks they his bird rights in 2010 FA. If McGrady is a bust he can be a trade asset at the trade deadline. It's a multi-win gamble.

You sign him because of what he's done for the team.
You sign him for his toughness.

    Sure he's an inconsistent scorer.

But last time I checked my Rockets history..

WE DON'T NEED NO STANKING SCORING CHAMP

Even if this team fails to win it all, it has shown they play together as a team better than any team in the league. Ron has his negatives but I am happy to take him anyways for what he does bring. Sign him at all costs(hes not going to be able to ask for anything too stupid because no one else will pay him huge). Hopefully they can use T-Macs contract to bring in a couple of sound additions who play team ball and fit in without shaking anything up.

Ron is what you need to win a championship. He brings Tenacity, Heart, Determination and Every blood and of ounce of effort on the court to will us to win. Sign him for next year.

Teams follow the lead of their best players. When the player who shall not be named was playing, his fragility and lack of heart rubbed off on his teammates. Ron's toughness and intensity rubs off on his teammates. So even though Ron isn't as good an individual player as the player who shall not be named, just like Kobe is a better individual player than Lebron, Ron makes his teammates better more and is thus the better player overall than the player who shall not be named, like Lebron was over Kobe.

This is a no-brainer. Of course you resign Artest. Very few players in the NBA with his skillset of offense and defense. Then all you need to do is trade T-Mac's contract for a play-making wing who can score and a backup big man for Yao and the Rockets are set.

Sign Artest to 10 mil 3 years last year is a team option and be done with it.
If you can unload T-mac then by all means launch his ass.

There are only a few teams (with a 1 or 2 year window for the ring) that would sign Artest. The Rockets can only offer the mid-class exception which is 9 million or so. It will be up to Artest if that is an acceptable offer.

Although Ron was inefficient in some games, he brought attitude. The man has hearts all over himself.

Ron, Von and Scola's upgrade contract should also motivate the team.

he has never been a really athletic guy, so his skill doesn't require much of it, which is a good thing for an older player, his body isn't deteriorating, i say resign him, if tmac comes back and they can mesh well we could have an amazing squad, with the toughness and consistent scoring to beat any team. so resign him, if tmac doesn't come back you trade him at the deadline for something or you just allow the contract to expire and get someone in the offseason of 2010

I was iffy the whole time but Ron should be a lock-in to sign this off season. He bring toughness to this team. Something we dont have with Yao and T-mac. His toughness is contagious and is spreading throuhout the team. Just like Kenny said, we surround Yao with a bunch of pitbulls. If t-mac can come back half decent we'll be one heck of a team. Else sign Joe Johnson. I want D-wade but he's prolly out of reach.

I would resign him. I don't like his shot selection a lot of the times but he is tough. I would keep him in the starting lineup too if it were up to me. Plus you could always trade him to improve the team.

Good point, and it's why we should re-sign T-Mac in 2010. He may be an inconsistent scorer, but look at what he's done for the team. Look how tough he is. He never won any stanking scoring champ with the Rockets either.

Did you just say T-Mac was tough?

You just went to a place where no homer has gone before.

So most people agree we should resign him but what is the most you sign him for? 10 mil, 12 mil, 15 mil. Most GM's would shy away from Ron because he still is a bit crazy. Personally I think the Rockets have helped him calm down more than he is just maturing. Put in the wrong environment he may revert back. And he still has his moments e.g. the time he refused to leave the court earlier this season and even last night was borderline stupid. Adelman and his teammates are Ron's best help but he won't turn down money. So how much are you willing to pay
