Yao Ming is a columnist of a Chinese sports newspaper. The name of his column is ¡°The diary of Yao Ming¡±. I collected some of them. He talks about the CBA. I found a lot of funny things in these articles. Just want to share a few of them with you.

    12/17/2000
ESPN published the interview about me. Everybody is talking about this article this week. It¡¯s overstated. I know who I am¡¡.

    12/20/2000
I got 42 points, 31 rebounds and 8 blocks today. But I still miss the 17 points I made in a game four years ago. I was 17 years old and did a bad job at my first show at CBA. The coach still trusted me and gave me the chance at the second game. I gained 17 points. I will never forget that day¡¡.

    12/24/2000
Reports like to ask me this question: ¡°who is your ideal?¡± I will say: ¡°Barkley¡±¡¡

    1/3/2001
I went home without informing my parents. They were still working at their offices. I began to cook for them¡¡..

    01/07/2001
I had 7 dunks at today¡¯s game. Do you know how I practice the skill of dunk? My roommate has a bird. I release it after training and try to catch it in the room. I am practicing jumping.

    01/14/2001
I am not fat, but I still prefer cold weather.

    01/31/2001
Chinese new year. I had a new clothes: a long coat and a neck scarf. Very cool.

    02/07/2001
I will never forget today¡¯s game. Bad ref. I want to be a ref tomorrow.

    02/14/2001
We lost. Many reports said I cried at the locker room. It¡¯s funny. I am a men of 20 years old¡

    02/21/2001
I will wear a pair of red-and -white shoes tonight. Just for good luck.

    02/25/2001
Although we won at the night of 21st, I still like black or dark blue shoes.

    03/04/2001
All the people in the world shout to me: ¡°NBA!NBA!NBA!¡±. I just want to fight for the Champion of CBA at this moment. But Bill (his agent) is writing a statement for NBA Draft, because I am under 22 years old.

    03/11/2001
Wang Zhizhi has got the permission of joining NBA. I have the preparation to sit on the bench for two years when I go to there.

    03/22/2001
Many people say that I like a ¡°star¡± this year and I am arrogant. In fact, I just cannot adapt the role of celebrity. I miss the life of a ordinary people.

    12/09/2001
I heard that Bateer was stronger when he came back from Denver. I am growing too.

    12/23/2001
I player 240 minutes in 5 games. I am very tired.

    12/30/2001
Now all the centers in CBA don¡¯t counterattack with me. They just stay at the outside to throw 3 points.
I am looking forward to meet the center of Shanxi. His name is Gazi and he is 7 feet 2.

    01/21/2002
I broke my bone at a invitation match at 1997. I felt pains for a quite while.

    01/28/2002
Many people begin to use fouls to defend me. Fortunately, I do a much better job than Shaq at the free line.

    02/04/2002
A friend want to go to Philadelphia to watch NBA all-star game. I said to him: ¡°please get the signature of Kwame Brown and told him: this is for Yao Ming of China. He didn¡¯t become the first pick of this year. So he want to see the signature of the first pick.¡±

    02/24/2002
Look at those big guys at NBA draft. I am the best. Both Kwame Brown and the last pick of NBA draft last year should treat me. If I was there, Brown will not be the first pick and the last pick will not exist. I know J Williams is good in this year¡¯s draft. I have told to an American reporter: ¡° R Smith? I can do everything he can do and everything he cannot do.¡±

    03/03/2002
I am relieved. All the coaches, scouts, GM, and bosses of NBA teams have left. Now I feel that my fate is in the hands of the others.

    03/10/2002
If Chinese Soccer Team recruited us to fight with Brazil, I think we can win.

Great job with the insights Wind! I like how gradual Ming's change from being humble to being more and more confident is. He might have to start all over again when he joins the NBA...

Man, that's some really good stuff! Sounds like Ming definitely follows what's going on in the NBA. That gives a lot more insight into how much he wants to be in the League and how he believes he'll have success. I had questions of whether he really wanted to come to the NBA or if he was kind of being forced. I also wondered if he really felt confident that he could match up in the NBA or whether he was intimidated by the prospect of playing here. It definitely does not sound like he's very intimidated to me. Rudy...CD...please...with a cherry on top...DRAFT YAO MING!!!

This guy says some pretty funny things without probably even realizing it...

I had 7 dunks at today¡¯s game. Do you know how I practice the skill of dunk? My roommate has a bird. I release it after training and try to catch it in the room. I am practicing jumping.

I am not fat, but I still prefer cold weather.

I will never forget today¡¯s game. Bad ref. I want to be a ref tomorrow.
---Wait till you see the NBA refs

Do any of you remember that piece on SNL...like Random Thoughts or something...This just reminded me of that

This is my favorite part. Can you imagine a 7 feet 5 inches big boy catching a small bird at his crowd room that he shared with another player? Many western reporters said it was smaller than the walk-in closet of NBA players.

i am pretty sure he knows he is being funny. he said some hilarious stuff in chicago a couple of weeks ago, including one line about treating reporters to dinner until they write something bad about him. he would quickly become the funniest player on the Rockets' dork squad, with the possible exception of Moochie.

He just mentioned it when he recalled his friendship with another player. It sounds like that was a small injury. He doesn't have any feel now. You must notice that he played many 48 minutes in CBA. Because his injury is a big issue at this forum now, I quote that part to give everybody some infromation.

Yeah, Yao's pretty funny. His short quips are just kind of...gut busting.

My favorite line-R Smith? (Referring to Rick Smits I take it)

I can do everything he can do and everything he can't.

That was a great line about Smits! I'm also relieved to here that he has played large #'s of minutes at times. I was wondering about his endurance. Thanks again, windandsea. :)

I am just wondering whether Rockets and its fans have the same preparation as Ming: let him sit on the bench for two years.

    windandsea,

Rudy will let a player determine when he's ready, by having practice determine who will start. I love yet hate Rudy for doing this (particularly with Griffin), but I must admit that it does protect players. Someone (a writer? or maybe even Carroll Dawson?) mentioned that throwing players to the fire can oftentimes be to their detriment, in which case a failure can do drastic harm. Rest assured, Rudy will protect Ming. He won't trade Cato under the guise "heck, I'm drafting a Center w/ the #1 pick.

I also wanted to add that these two blurbs are awesome:
