...A month ago, my interest in soccer peaked and I have helped volunteer coach a rec league team to a 5-1 record (even though we don't keep score)...so far I had asked your opinion on the best soccer player today, and today while searching for a Yao Ming inspired song, I came across this clip...I feel he is the best because of his probably unmatched OVERALL skills. If not him who would you put near or in front of and why?... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8NkTMGEsubk p.s. his phantom kicks will always be awesome to watch! p.s.s: his life story as a boy growing up is also inspirational to me.
No...lol...My background regarding soccer is for most of my adulthood life I never cared for soccer. Sometimes having an open mind changes your thinking. Add to the fact my young daughters got into it, and then there was a need for coaches, then I actually felt more comfortable at it, then I actually researched Pele and others, etc. (rather than just "hearing" about them)... Most people regard Pele as the best, but it is debatable among some. Regardless, Pele is a great story beginning with his childhood growing up
The best soccer player ever is purely opinion based really, many people think differently when it comes to it and it isn't as clear cut as it is in Basketball for example.. Cruyff, Beckenbauer, Pele, Maradona, Zidane, Ronaldo etc etc. That said most people tend to lean toward Pele and Maradona as the best ever. For me Zidane was the player I enjoyed to watch the most out of anyone and is the best all time for that reason imo.
I think it's more clear cut in soccer than basketball. As you said, it is of course a matter of opinion.
I like George Best. Pele even said he was the greatest. <object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/jYU0KsGLuxE&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/jYU0KsGLuxE&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> DD
On a number of occasions, Wayne Gretzky has pointed to young hockey players and said that they were better than him. Some GOATs are just humble.
His control of the ball is just amazing. It's like ball is glued to his feet. Anyone's who has played soccer before knows how difficult it is to to control the ball while you are dribbling in full speed.
I say YES. Homeboy played like he was OVER everyone, with speed, determination, courage, precision, and almost perfection. Even though you can clearly see that in most of those highlight clips the defenders made horrible mistakes, he never had mercy when facing the three poles, and knew how to get away from the defender and punish him for it. The dude seemed to be going FASTER, more ACCURATE, and BETTER than everyone at all times. Combine Cristiano Ronaldo's ball-handling skills, Beckham's accuracy, Cuauhtemoc Blanco's precise passing, Zidane's height, Donovan's quick strike, and you have Pelé. That's what SHE said.
Zidane's height? Zidane is a little over 6'. Pele is maybe 5'6". And while I'm an American soccer fan, Landon Donovan doesn't belong in the same universe as Pele. Then again, neither does Blanco.
