I loved, how Chuck responded when they talked about it being a "Wake up Call" For the Lakers..and Chuck saying it wasn't a wake up call, Houston just out played them.

Rockets could have blown them out had they take advantage of all the misfired and mistakes the Lakers made. Instead, they play like they were shocked or something because they are not taking advantge of the Lakers miscues. I would be pissed if we blew this win ...that's why i am glad Yao came back and I KNOW Yao would be pissed if we lose cuz he knew we're right there to win it. This win could have been easilly by 15pts PLUS. Lakers were struggle so bad and yet we're giving them life...next time we should put a dagger down their throats and just kill them like we did at Portland in game 1.

Great game Rockets team. Ron thank you for playing very smart and not forcing to many shots, being efficient, and finding the open man(7 assist). Shane that was very good d with 4 stitches, Kobe ballhog needed to take 31 shots to get his points, that why the Lakers were out of sink. If Kobe takes 31 shots in 44 min. How can any other of the Faker Laker players get hot in terms of shooting? Thats why all of the other Faker Lakers couldn't contribute down the strecth, when Kobe dominated the ball most of the time.
I think RA said the defensive assignment was to stop Kobe from attacking the rim and for Shane to force Kobe into the helpside d. I think the defensive gameplan was executed very well.
And ***** those dirty Faker Lakers, I thought Kobe intentionally did that to Yao because he was frustated with the d and tried to bring his team back in the 4th at all cost. You can't tell me the best player in the world didn't know he was dribbling into a triple team, watch the replay yourself, Kobe wasn't even looking to pass on that play. Just like a couple of years ago in the playoffs when Kobe elbowed Raja Bell. And when Kobe was on top of Shane and kneed and elbowed him, when Kobe was getting up, that was classless. Rockets management should submit a tape of that tho Stern and try to get Kobe banned for one game. And ***** Vujacic for hurting Shane, somebody better put him on his back in the next game for doing that to Shane.
As for game two the Laker Fakers are going to come out swinging because they cannot afford to go down 0-2. Rockets keep your composure, the team is playing for each other and really starting to gel and peak at the right time in the playoffs. Rockets team you are proving the basketball experts, national media, TNT (ie Smith & Barkley), and T-Mac wrong. Just keep on playing smart with your tough hardnose D, ball movement to find the open shooter, freethrow shooting, and your heart.
They say its "Lebron vs Kobe" for the championship. I say over my dead body. Rockets cannot be stopped when you got the whole city of Houston, all of China, and Mount Mutombo on your side.
When TNT showed Yao in the tunnel telling Keith the athletic trainer that he was going back out to play and started walking back to the court, that was classic and amazing. Not even Hollywood could have wrote that script.
    Go Rockets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

Couldn't get on here last night because of the craziness. Just wanted to say that I'm ridiculously proud of this Rockets team. They really look like they want it more than the Lakers do at this point. Hopefully we can keep that energy up.

Kobe Meets Shane Battier's Force Field

No one can stop Kobe Bryant. The Laker is too talented, too aggressive and too focused to let any defender keep him under lock and key. Houston is a team predicated on tough defense, with arguably the conference's two best perimeter defenders in the line-up. One can imagine Kobe figured in Daryl Morey's decision to trade for Ron Artest in July.

But in Houston's Game 1 win over the Lakers, Shane Battier covered Kobe almost exclusively. As Matt Watson wrote, Battier did a fantastic job, hassling Kobe into an inefficient game. How did he do it? Or did Kobe do it to himself?

I charted Kobe's offensive possessions with an eye on Battier and Artest. Rick Adelman had already announced Battier would be the lead Kobe defender, but the exclusivity level wasn't known until the game began. (You can also imagine a scenario in which the circumstances of the game would necessitate Battier being replaced in the line-up by an offensive creator.)

Battier was the defender on 27 of Kobe's 33 shooting possessions. Artest covered five (three of which coming when Battier was on the bench getting stitches or a rest), and the other possession came against Brent Barry on a secondary break. (By the way, Brent Barry held Kobe to 0-1 shooting! Brent Barry!)

In those 27 Kobe vs. Battier shooting possessions, two ended with trips to the line. Both of these came in the final two minutes, as Kobe decided to start attacking the basket. Bryant had only one prior FTA, on an "and-1" against Artest. For perspective, on the season Kobe drew 0.33 FTAs for every FGA. But in those Battier-defended possessions in Game 1, Kobe drew just four FTAs on 25 FGAs -- 0.16 FTA/FGA.

That's because the lion's share of Kobe's shots came on jumpers. Of those 25 FGAs against Battier, 21 were jumpers. Of the 21 jumpers, 14 were long twos (the least efficient in basketball at the league-level). Obviously, you don't draw many fouls on jumpers, let alone pull-up jumpers (which Kobe often went to). Not until those final minutes could Kobe lose Battier on screens; it's hard to tell whether Kobe, feeling ill and maybe rusty, didn't feel up to a pounding in the lane, or whether Battier just shut it down by fighting through screens and leaving some space for Kobe to fire up (seemingly) open jumpers. (No jumper against Battier is truly open. He's so skilled at shoving his hand in a shooter's face. Every time. Without fouling.)

Given Kobe's aforementioned talent and focus, I find it hard to believe he simply didn't want to drive. Kobe's eye is on the prize. He knows what he needs to do to get L.A. another championship. He knows he's at his best getting to the rim, especially against a long, agile, but not quick, Battier. Kobe knows all this ... and took 25 jump shots. I think Battier gets credit for this one. (Artest, too: in the five Artest-defended possession, Kobe took four jumpers and got to the rim once.)

Assuming Kobe adjusts in Game 2 and begins to drive into the core of the Houston defense, we'll see how long Battier can hold up the fort before needing more help from Artest or a double-team.

(Addendum: Kobe finished with four assists, but by my charting had another nine "potential assists" -- passes leading to shots which, if those shots had fallen, would have counted as assists for Kobe. This doesn't mean Kobe could have had 13 assists if his teammates didn't shoot so poorly -- the passes weren't exactly alley-oops; most were normal ball movement passes that ended with the ever-efficient (not) Trevor Ariza three-pointer. But Kobe did share the ball despite his 31 FGAs. The passes just didn't help much.)

They honestly must have the worst fans in the NBA.

They were not even loud from the tipoff. Toyota Center would have been chanting DEFENSE right from the get-go. I know they didn't have much to cheer about at first but pu-lease...it's the playoffs, support your team!

It was like a church service in there. Very sad for Laker fan reputation.
