...in the way you look at drafting Ming.

Read Jonathan Feigen's article that JeffB posted. Feigen has quotes from Lewis's agent who says pretty clearly that we are back in the running for Lewis if we pick Ming.

If Lewis accepts a 3-yr contract at our Middle Class Exception, that is a GIFT, just like what we got in Shandon and MoT. If that would happen, would that change your mind about drafting Ming? Is Ming's risk less if you are handed Lewis to offset your worries?

Another scenario is we give Lewis high dollar where Seattle does a forced sign-n-trade of Lewis for Glenn Rice (it would require a 3rd team for BYC reasons)? Does dollar amount for Lewis matter, if we never could have gotten him without the agent and Rashard liking Ming?

As I posted in another thread, I am afraid his agent is just saying this to scare Seattle and get them to increase their offer towards the max. I would really like to have Rashard in Houston, but it just doesn't seem realistic to me to expect that he would take considerably less dollars just to come home.

Another question that has not been answered is whether Rudy and CD would even want him. There must have been a reason that they didn't take him when they had 14, 16, 18.

I would think Seattle would prefer to let him walk than take on Glen Rice and his kickass contract. If I'm Seattle, I call his bluff and see if he's really willing to give up $30-50MM in guaranteed money to play in Houston for $15MM/3yrs.

His comments in the past about how he compares to Kobe and how he deserves $100MM or whatever (which he won't get anywhere) suggest to me he'll take the money.

With Rashard and Cuttino running the wings, and a real point guard running the break "it's over".

Actually, I don't particularly worship Rashard... certainly Rockets' management has done smarter things, and certainly some people on the bbs overestimate his abilities (someone suggested trading the #1 for Rashard??? WTF? 'Free Agent').

If it's something that will keep the natives happy and patient as Ming becomes a great player... I'll have at it. If it's something that will make people shut up about Lamar Odom, I'll have at it.

Rudy and CD had Lewis number 4 on their depth chart that year. If any one of the three players (Bryce Drew, Michael Dickerson, or Turksan) had been picked already Lewis ( a high school player...very unproven) would have been next.

I do not believe that would mean that Rudy and CD did not want him then nor does it mean that they do not want him now.

    Ming + Odom = great offseason :D

    Ming + Lewis = great offseason :D

I would not count on Rashard being here unless the Sonics are stupid enough to do a sign and trade for Cato and MoT. I think that's the only way this deal would happen. They are already pretty high on Rashard, so I don't see anything like that happening.

Now, if Rashard just flat out refuses to play in Seattle, that's another story. But, I don't think he'll risk $70 mil by acting like a cry-baby. I'll bet he'd rather take the money and stay there.
