I just read on hoopsworld.com from the Rocket Guy (Bskball changed to Hoopsworld btw) about some of the rumors floating around and one he says is #1 and Glen Rice to Philly for Dikembe Mutombo. Clutch, Rocket!!!, Doc Rocket, Oily, ya'll heard anything of the sort? Here's the article:

There are so many rumors out there about what the Rockets will do on June 26th that it's hard to keep up with them all, but the two most intriguing rumors come from New York and Philadelphia. The Knicks continue to aggressively pursue the right to draft Yao Ming, and have sweetened the pot to include Latrell Sprewell and Kurt Thomas. Sprewell would fill the void the Rockets have at small forward and Thomas give them the rebounding presence they currently lack.

Meanwhile, the Sixers have opened up talks involving Dikembe Mutombo, saying they need to acquire some scoring threats and will deal Mutombo to get a more offense oriented front court player. Can you say Yao Ming? Rumor has it that the Sixers are speaking with the Warriors and Rockets, among other teams, about trading the defensive minded Mutombo in exchange for some offensive firepower. The Sixers feel Yao Ming would be a good fit, and would even be willing to take Glen Rice off our hands in the process. If Rice can get healthy, he might be able to help the Sixers get back some of what they lost when George Lynch shipped out.

Cuttino Mobley recently appeared on "The Best Sports Show Period," and he made it clear that he and Steve Francis would rather see the Rockets trade the pick and acquire an established player. Lamar Odom was the name mentioned, and there has been ongoing speculation that the Rockets could draft Duke's Jay Williams in order to facilitate a trade with the Clips. The Clippers are also said to be talking to the Heat about Odom as part of a possible Mourning trade, which would happen only if they encounter resistance in their efforts to re-sign Michael Olowokandi. On the other hand, if Olowokandi doesn't want to stay in LA, the Clips could arrange a sign-and-trade with the Rockets and still have their pick of Jay Williams (who they covet) or Yao Ming.

Rockets scouts are heading to Chicago this week to check out the pre-draft camp at Moody Bible College. Workouts will resume the following week. - TRG

I'm sure Philly would love to trade Dikembe and their pick to Houston for
Glenn Rice and the #1 pick.

But...I'm thinking that only Mrs. Dawson and Mrs. T get to have sex with CD and Rudy T. so the Sixers are going to have to go ***** someone else.

If there's any talk at all it's more likely:

    #15 + Rice + $6m in fill for Mutombo.

Anything involving Deke and #1 would be ludicrous unless there's a 3rd team offering someone of value.

The next time I see Larry Brown, I'm going to ask him, in regards to CD, "Does he look like a b****!?"

    forreal

    I sh*t Mutombo is a tin man
so stiff and slow. . .
he is basically what Cato hopes to grow up to be

I want no parts of him.
Unless . . . it's for Rice, or some flotsam

Seeing as how the Rockets like to trade value for little value, this trade actually worries me a bit in that I think the Rockets might be stupid enough to do it.

LAfadeaway33,If this is true there is a small chance that they might do this trade with the Sixers, but I doubt it because the Rockets also have to look for the future and Mutombo won't last for more than 2-3 years.

Okay, I wasn't convinced that the Rocket Guy sucks. After he presented this trade as a realistic possibility, I have changed my mind. Doesn't really matter because I only read his stuff when it is re-posted here.

Forget it- Mutumbo is old. I'm tired of the Rockets acquiring players past their prime (i.e. Barkley, Willis, Rice, etc...)

Okay, it's good to unload Rice for Mutumbo, but I wouldn't include the # 1 pick. That is ludicrous. Throw in someone else or a package of picks.

Why would Philly do this. They want more offense not less offense.

Mutombo makes far more than Rice does, and the #1 pick has no trade value. Plus, why would Philly trade one of the East's best big men for a small forward? They need players who don't get injured all the time, not one who seemingly is injured all the time!

They get Rice and the #15, that's a lot more offense than Mutumbo. Mutumbo is on his last legs. I might do that trade if Mutumbo was in the last year of his contract but I don't know if he is. I wouldn't giv up the #1 for him even if he was 10 years younger.

i hope this is a joke... why would anyone trade the #1 pick for a soon to be 36 year old center?

This from the guy who thinks Chris Marcus is a stud and Amare is worth a top 4 selection.
