Someone on the Rockets needs to submit and call a review of Kobe's elbow to Battier's head. I guarantee the league will do absolutely nothing to its poster child if nobody brings it up.

Great win by the team. Yao was amazing. Ron was efficient. Brooks was great.

    Some observations:

Fisher cannot guard Brooks. The Lakers pg situation is in limbo. Shannon Brown is unproven and Farmar has been relegated to the bench. Rockets need to continue to exploit this matchup.

Rockets have to continue to play at this same level of intensity or higher to have a chance - especially defensively. They really need to be aggressive and play physical to make sure it's their style of game.

Houston needs to crash the boards to avoid the Lakers having too many 2nd chance oppotunities (they led the league in this category). This will help compensate for the lack of height.

Odom will not play as bad next game. Landry or whoever is matched up with him has to play solid defense.

Continue to make Kobe earn every point and make him exert energy on defense. Battier has to play better offensively during this series.

I saw some over-passing at times tonight. If you gotta good look, shoot the damn ball.

Run the offense through Yao and keep feeding it to him as much as possible. If he gets fronted, run pick and roll with him and Brooks. AB was murdering them with that tonight once they switched to the fronting defense.

Continue to make sure the Lakers' role players are non-factors. I expect Ariza to play better, but the Rockets have to decrease the number of wide open looks for the Lakers - especially from 3 pt land. I have no problem with forcing the Lakers to shoot jump shots, but chance are they are not gonna go 2-11 for 3 pt land on Wed.

Wafer needs to keep his poise. He seemed like he was trying to do too much and he let Vujacic get under his skin and take him out of his game. It was evident if Von calms down he can blow by Sasha the same way he blowed by Rudy Fernandez every time. He needs to play under control because the Rockets will need his scoring in this series.

Gasol is soft. Continue to play physical with him to try and minimize his impact on the game.

Kobe is the only Laker that really attacks the rim.

You have to give credit to Brooks. I laughed out loudly when I watched Brooks run through the Lakers' wall back and forth and back and forth.
They have no answer to Brooks.

why suddenly the 4th quarter meltdown syndrome of the Rockets miraculous cured when it comes to the playoffs?

we are so clutch in 4th since blazers series.

I still think that it's a long shot for the Rockets to win this series. Almost everyone on the Lakers team had a subpar game and they will play better -- Gasol will play better, Odom will play better, and Fisher and Ariza will make 3's. Also everyone wants a Kobe/Lebron matchup in the Finals and this will reflect in the refs' calls at some point. It will be a tough series. However, I do see two serious weaknesses of this Lakers team that the Rockets can exploit to their advantages:

    (1) Lack of quicknesses in the back court: AB and KL are quick against everyone, but against the Lakers they are especially quick because the Lakers have Fisher and his old legs starting at point. AB and KL can get by Fisher whenever they want to. I think that RA did a great job at exploiting this weakness in game 1 and we will have this advantage the entire series. We must take advantage of the PG matchup. Aaron needs to attack the baseket, as much as he can.

    (2) The Lakers' front line is soft. L.A. has the most skilled front line in the league with Gasol, Bynum, and Odom, but none of these guys is tough. Their softness is the reason why they lost to the Celtics last year. We have Scola and Yao and they are tougher than the Lakers' bigs. This is a HUGE advantage to us under this playoffs envrionment. Yao and Scola need to continue to physically punish the Lakers' bigs who will fold under pressure.

Best foot in mouth comes from "http://bleacherreport.com/articles/167338-rockets-advantage-against-lakers-perception-of-no-chance-gives-them-one/show_full"
in an article that might as well have been called "Houston suck so bad they just might win?...If Fakers are sleeping."

"Don't call the Houston Rockets underdogs. Call them underpuppies.

Don't call this tantalizing second-round matchup David vs. Goliath. Call it KC and the Sunshine Band trying to win a death metal contest, or Carson Kressley attempting to defeat the Roman empire with a blowdryer.

All jokes aside, the Rockets know the enormity of the task ahead.

If 80 percent of the national media picked against them in the first round, 100 percent will bury them in the next."

    Classic :D :D :D :D

Good observations...I think everybody on the Lakers except Kobe is more than likely to fold under pressure with maybe the exception of Fisher and occasionally Gasol. Another thing I noticed in the Utah series that the Rockets could exploit as well is that the Lakers frontline tends to get into foul trouble if you attack them and pound them in the post. Rockets need to a lot more of that.

we looked sharp, but it helped that the lakers looked sloppy. i'll take a win however it comes.

i hope the lakers shoot 11% from 3-land again in game 2, and i hope they shoot just 63% from the line again, and i hope bynum gets into foul trouble early again and only plays 15 minutes in game 2. but i won't count on it!

i will count on yao to put up 20 shots in game 2. keep going to the well till it runs dry. feed the big man! he's hungry and he needs muchos puntos. artest really needs to keep coming up big in 4 of the next 5 games or we could be in trouble.

(i'm still a pessimist about our chances in this series, as you can tell. but i also berieve.)

a friend of mine made the call of the game when he said that if you let kobe keep putting up shots, the rest of the lakers will fade out of the game and the rox will win. per ESPN, the lakers are 2-7 in playoff games in which kobe takes 30 or more shots.
