The Bulls would have to take 2.45-3.3 million in cap preferably, from Houston. Kandi would have to be signed anywhere from 6.3 to 8.1 million (I think it would be closer to 6.3). Grizz trade doesnt't work under CBA, about .5-2 million more needs to be issued by the Grizz (Tony Massenburg?). It couldn't happen until late July, but could be announced on draft day. It would probably be a 4-way, with the Grizz trade just added on.
Based on my interpretation, Kandi can't be traded until after the July moratorium. I think GATER, aelliott, and heypartner came to this conclusion as well If you take him out, I'm not sure the Clips are far enough under to fully absorb Rice (I haven't checked up the numbers), but if you put in maybe Sean Rooks, it'd get pretty close. (Why they'd trade Brand is beyond me). It works capwise for the Bulls, and the Rockets. The Grizz trade would need them to throw in a little starch...it'd be easier if we kept T-Mo. I'm not sure I'd do the 2nd trade...too much changing hands and confusion involved. I'd probably rather be released from our pick obligation to them, and keep the #15 than have Swift. Keep Griff at PF, Battier to SF, draft Tsika. NYKRule-The Bulls wouldn't have to take in any salary. You can always accept less salary.
You have to take equal salary if the team taking the extra money is over the cap. The Rockets are over the cap, I believe, with 02/03 having 44 million committed. The Clips could easily take Rice, as they have 27-20 million in cap comitted (I have conflicting reports, but they could take Rice easy). Why they would take Rice is beyond my thinking. I really don't think this would go down.

Since the Rockets are trading Rice, KT, and Collier in the same deal they can accept Curry from the Bulls and Brand from the Clips. As long as the salaries of Rice, KT, and Collier +15% and 100K is greater than the salaries of the player(s) they accept (in this case, Brand/Curry), the Rockets are fine. You can always trade down in salary-however, if you're trading down in salary by more than 115%+100K, someone must be trading up in salary by more than that amount. In this case, it's the Clips, who are just trading Brand and his ~3.5 mill, for Rice+KT+Collier of around 11 mill. The Clips would need approximately 6.5 mill in caproom BEFORE renouncements. Do they have this? I don't know, I haven't looked at the numbers. Every player they add subtracts from that 6.5 mill they would need, though. If Kandi is out of the picture (since he can't be traded till July, he is), Rice+Collier+KT is more salary than Brand and Curry. If you say a deal will go down in July, it's pointless to speculate now, because we have no idea what kind of money Kandi will make. In the first trade, The Bulls are sending out more salary than they take in-they're trading Curry, and receiving a draft pick who has no value for salary matching purposes. You are always allowed to do that. The Rockets send out Rice/Collier/KT and take in Brand/Curry. Sending out more salary than they are taking in. The Clippers are sending out Brand, but taking in Rice/Collier/KT. Depending on how much cap they have, they may or may not be a no go. Most likely, they'll have to send salary to either the Rockets and/or the Bulls-both of whom would have room to accept.
Yeah, I forgot about that. Before renouncements they'll be at about 27 million. They can definitely take on Rice. Its the matter of why the hell they would do it, while getting rid of Brand.
I agree with NIKE. First of all Kandi definitely can't be traded. So, that kills things right from the start. By my calculations (see ROCKET!!'s thread about remaining players), without renouncing Kandi, the Clips only have around $3M and change left in cap space. If Nike's calculation of the salary differences is correct, and he usually is, then the Clips wouldn't have the cap space to do this. So, that would kill things a 2nd time. To me the biggest problem is why would the Clippers trade Brand, Kandi, #8 and #12 and all they get back is Jay Williams, KT and about $10M in bad contracts? Next, why would Memphis trade Battier, Swift and the #4 for #8, #12 and #15? It's never a good thing when your trading away the two most valuable assets in the deal (Battie and #4). If I had to summarize my feelings on this in one sentence then it's "We're drafting Yao Ming".
NM I remember Kandi is on the rookie scale. But I still don't see how he has that much of a cap hit--9 million more to the cap, still have about 4 million in loose salary (wouldn't that allow them to take Rice--but only Rice in cap?), don't think they'd mind renouncing Pike, and the bench.
