JVG would perfect for the Blazers. Get TT back in there to coach up Greg, teach Roy how to play D.

    They would dominate for years.

Jeff will be a great coach for any team. He may not be best, but he is a great coach, and he is better than 70% coaches in league right now.

JVG would be horrible for the Suns. They tried to bring a defensive-minded guy in and look what happened. Plus JVG would no way embrace an open style of offense. He loves the slow-it-down, ball-control game. I agree he'd thrive with a team like Portland, and even Utah, but McMillan and Sloan aren't going anywhere for the time being.

Jeff is not stupid, there is no way he would take on a talented OLD team like the Suns.

He would take on Portland....but he wants a chance to win...he will protect his record and reputation, he has no desire to take on an old team, or a young one...

He has earned the right to pick his spots...and he is a VERY smart man.

    Phoenix....is not a smart choice.

JVG is all that is wrong with the NBA, slow grind it out basketball. I don't want to see it. If its the rockets and they win with that style I will watch, but if I have to watch suns/warriors or spurs/celtics, I would rather watch a suns game.

    no...

YOU are all that is wrong with the NBA, fans that would rather watch up and down offenses of bad teams (neither of which made the playoffs) that lack the desire to play any defense than superior defensive teams that play basketball the way it's supposed to be played (who are the last two champions). So, to please YOU, rules have to be changed and players can't be touched while driving.

ugh...it's the instant gratification, everyone needs it nowadays. You can run and play defense, the lakers and nuggests do it. I just can't support teams that don't try on defense, especially when it's enforced by the coach. JVG teaches hard work on defense and if that puts him in the same class as CHAMPIONSHIP coaches then i'd take that any day over Don Nelson's 'never won a championship and never will' "fun" style of basketball.

He only loves the slow tempo if that's all his guys are capable of playing. When he had the Sura/Barry/Wesley offense, the team ran and looked great doing it. The problem is that the Rockets' and Knicks personnel generally haven't been suited for open court basketball.

I think he'd thrive in Phoenix. He'd solidify the defense and let Nash have free reign to run the offense.

Van Gundy has little incentive to come out to coach unless he gets offered a job in nearly a perfect situation-- a team with talent, upside, and players and management who will listen to him. He's got a very sweet gig going as pretty much the top announcer on the ESPN/ABC team-- did the finals last year and probably will do it again.

I am thinking a team like Portland, Oklahoma City or Chicago might make sense, particularly if they get disgruntled with their current coach.

Big fan of JVG.I think he can pretty much improve nearly any team in the league.

He would be a good coach for Phoenix. He would make them an organized strict defensive team while letting Nash control the show.

I hope JVG coaches soon..and coaches in the East.

One team that should throw millions for him to coach..
    The LA Clippers.
    For real

Nash may not even be a Sun after this year. An old Shaq...an old Grant Hill...Amare coming off an injury and could care less about playing D. Yeah that's a perfect gig for JVG.

exactly... he earned my respect his time as a rocket and his continued support as a broadcaster. I'll say that any team he does coach next will be my second favorite team so long as that team is neither the mavericks nor the jazz.

    Talking about offense and defence.

The Rox ranked the 17th in 2007, 17th in 2005, 20th in 2004; and the defence has been the top three teams.

After Rick·I have no idea·Aldeman was the coach here, the offense turned into 22nd in 2008, and 17th in 2009 while the defence turned into 7th.

Besides, the bench in 2007 ranked 28th in the whole league, 3rd in 2008.

We all know when JVG was the coach, the Rox generally did blow up the lottory teams and got blown up by the contenders very often. So the bench actually could get many playing time, but their stats sucked like hell.

What a difference between the 2007 bench and 2008.

    (Runs and hides.)

Seriously, if he got his hands on Portland, I'd be terrified.
