No. What Scola did is called step up his game. But he is not the mvp of the series. If you take any of the big three (Yao/Scola/Ron) away from the team, they would not have won this series. But, in term of contribution, Yao is still the highest on the team. If I have to rate their importance in a total of 100 points, Yao contributes 40, Scola 30 and Ron 30.
Yao's contribution much more than what his stats shows. In fact, even only based on stats, he is still the most impact rocekts player. This is Hollinger's playoff players Efficiency Rating. Yao ranks the highest among rockets players. http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/holl.../insider.espn.go.com/nba/hollinger/statistics
I voted for Battier. Only cuz I feel he isn't gettin enough love. Yaos defensive presence should not be overlooked. Scola had a great series and was no doubt a huge factor.. however, he got a lot of his offense from the open jumpers caused by the attention focused on Yao. Defensively, Scola did a great job on Aldridge.. but Yao's defensive presence is a lot more valuable than Scola's. Therefore, Yao was MVP.. IMO.
According to Hayesfan's write up on Morey's interview on 4/30, Morey said Scola as the MVP after Yao. Yao did a whole lot more than the stats show. But I am going to give my vote to Scola because he deserves some recognition for making shots off of the defense on Yao. Juwon Howard eat your heart out.
Yao with 2 or 3 defenders guarding him 15.8 pts 10.7 Reb 1.17 Blks Scola with 1 or no defenders guarding him 16.2 pts 6.7 Reb .5 blks Rockets won games 1, 3, 4, 6 Game 1 Yao dominated the game and won it for the Rockets Game 3 Scola was the key to the win Game 4 Yao was the leading scorer and rebounder in the game Game 6 Yao and Ron won this game My vote is Yao Ming was the MVP for this series. Luis was solid and perhaps the 2nd most important player tied with Brooks.
If Yao was taken away from this series, the Rockets lose 4-0. They have no one big enough to guard the paint. Portland is a huge team.
He played 1 good game out of 6. His defense on Roy was subpar too. Battier did much better on defense on Roy.
Can you please stop pulling that YOFs crap out again? Does this series have anything to do with Hakeem? How does Yao get votes simply for drawing attention? Yao's stats beats Scola across the board except 0.4 point less and 0.3% fg percentage less, that doesn't even include how many shots Yao altered and how badly Scola got burned by LMA on defensive end. We all love Scola, but it doesn't take a YOF to realize how much impact Yao has in the series. Even Artest acknowledged that after his huge game 7.
Great defense, Big timely 3's, rebounding, and leadership....... Shane Battier. He won us that series.
I went with Battier. He went from quiet glue guy to mega industrial super adhesive. He elevated his game higher than any other Rocket no question. He also became an emotional pillar and leader. He stuck his nose in places he typically would not.
I voted Yao just because he's the focal point of everything we do offensively. If he's not dominating the competition he's drawing fronts and double teams that create a massive amount of commotion and open looks for others. Basically he creates the open looks that Scola, Battier and others took advantage of this series. Plus, his legacy was somewhat called into question and he responded admirably. Job well done, Yao.
