I checked the weather radar for Atlanta during the rain delay and there was an obviously strong band of storms moving through the area, but it was also apparent that they wouldn't last long. I wonder if this wasn't a national FOX game if they would have postponed the start till after the rains had moved through.

Also, in reading Jose de Jesus Ortiz' recap on chron.com, I came across this quote from Coop:

We sat in here during the rain delay and kind of mapped out where we thought we could go. And it went exactly as we planned. It was just a great job. Everybody made their pitches. It was just terrific. They saved the day.

So, my question is, if it was known that the game would start as scheduled despite an obvious impending rain delay, would it have been smarter to start Paulino or another reliever and then have Roy-O ready to go after the delay? Roy looked pretty sharp in his one inning and it seems a waste that he only got to pitch that one inning.

I'm not getting on Coop about this too much because I don't believe there are any managers in the majors right now who would be that proactive (except for maybe TLR, as much as I hate to admit it).

The difference between 0.280 and 0.295 at this point in the season is basically 1 hit.

Oswalt's been attacking hitters his whole career, including this season. His problem has been that he's missed his spots at times and has been too aggressive on a couple of occasions. His curveball hasn't been consistent at all, either.

The rest of the Astros pitchers were pretty much all phenomenal and collectively played a huge part in this win. Even Paulino was able to limit the damage to 1 run over 2 innings despite not having his best command. If you're saying none of them reminded you of Roy Oswalt... well, obviously.

Bourn is off to a very good start. Yes, he still swings and misses badly at times and he gets schooled too often on inside pitches but considering what he did at the plate last season, it's hard to complain. I understand your concerns but there is no reason to be disappointed yet. I'm pretty happy with Bourn so far. I hope he can keep it up.

It would be nice if he hit around .290-.300 for the season, although .280 would be very respectable. I'd like to see more aggressive running on the basepaths, more attempted steals. Seems like Bourn has been caught a few times already, but I'm too tired to look up. zzzzzzz. Is Roy starting tomorrow?

Bourn has been the best player of the season for the astros so far and if you didn't realize that you haven't been paying attention to the Astros.

yeah I don't know how you can hate on Bourn. He has been 5x better than last season IMO and has been the best Astros player on defense this season.

If you consider 1 caught stealing "a few times" then you are correct.

Roy does attack hitters a lot, but I hadn't realized his fastball was jumping again. In spring training he was throwing low 90's not mid 90's

I guess looking back the relievers did do a good job of limiting damage, but I think the Braves and luck had a bit to do with it. They hit into timely dp's and didn't do anything with runners in scoring position. I don't know if its the Astros pitching philosophy to throw a lot of strikes or not. The Braves do but yesterday was a perfect example of when throwing a lot of strikes leads to a lot of hits.

I'll fully admit I haven't kept up with the Astros this year, so hearing about Bourn's improvement was surprising. After taking a gander at his stats, it looks like he indeed has improved significantly. Good for him. I guess I just caught an off game.

The Astros pitchers & fielders had nothing to do with any of that.

seems like. good job looking it up. 6 SB's and 1 CS for Bourn. 9 SB's and 9 CS's for the rest of the team.

How about a win today? Is Roy starting?

Who knows if he'll be able to maintain his current level of productivity. All I'm saying is he has been good through the first 20 odd games. There isn't really much to criticize about him so far. I hope he keeps it up all season long. This is a pretty important year for him.

We really are an old, old team. Seeing Brocail lay down like that says it all.

Once again, Berkman's throw didn't help the situation.

Most of our "old" players are 35 or so.

Brocail turns 42 on May 16.

There is a big difference in baseball productivity between 35 and 42.

    Where do you live?

I went to yesterday's game. I'm sure glad I chose Sunday over Saturday. It was a great game. Bourn was amazing. The team played great all together at getting runs over, and getting them in. Pence though looked pretty bad out in RF. We were sitting in the 2nd row behind him, and he managed to miss picking up the ball twice, and fell on another.

Decatur. Fortunately for me and my buddy, in saturday's game only the Braves were making fielding errors.

I live in Warner Robins. I'm glad I'm not the only Clutchfan in GA. I go to ATL every year for the Rockets game, and for one game of the Astros series.
