You have every right to be a homer, but it's crazy to compare the two players. They are barely similar enough to compare. No, Landry will never be as good as Lamarcus Aldridge. There is a huge gap in talent and physical ability. May as well ask if Aaron Brooks will ever be as good as Deron Williams. Will Luis Scola ever be as good as Larry Bird? Will Von Wafer be as good as Clyde Drexler? LA might have a few seasons of being 1st or 2nd team all-NBA (or close to it). Landry will never come close to an All-Star game.
Exactly! Landry can be as good as west if he gets comfortable shooting over people. Aldridge is like wallace, just not as athletic but similar game.
Aldridge is near 7 feet tall Carl Landry is 6'8 and does not have great length Carl Landry has a solid mid-range jumpshot but is not a good 1 on 1 player, Aldridge is. landry is fearless, relentless and agressive but Aldridge sometimes can play soft and take too many jumpers, Aldridge should not think that Rasheed Wallace is a goal for him to become, he must look elsewhere to get better.
Agreed totally. At age 25 (26 by next season) we're clearly at the point where we need to decide whether Landry is a starter in this league or not and I think the answer is a resounding "no". At least on this team. I've, too, noticed these same problems and limitations against physical players and taller competition especially. This Aldridge vs. Landry comparison is puzzling in the first place. Aldridge's height is what gives him the clear advantage over most PF's. He hasn't even developed a steady post game yet he's already near near the 20 PPG mark. Just imagine what he'll do once he realizes post players can do more than just shoot hook shots and fadeways. P.S. Would Landry have been a second rounder if he was 6'11"? I think not. I know height can sometimes be an overrated factor when evaluating a player. I just don't think that rule applies in this case.
I stopped reading once you said both are finesse players. You have got to be kidding me if you think Carl Landry ( Kyle Landry as Jalen Rose calls him lol ) is a finesse player. Yao Ming is what you call finesse.
Carl Landry's ceiling would be somebody like Paul Millsap. Right now he's in class with players like Brandon Bass, Leon Powe and Jason Maxiell (who's on the low end). LaMarcus Aldridge is in a different class altogether both physically and in terms of talent.
I love Carl, but he does NOT have freakish athleticism and the way you (the OP) described him as he can "jump out of the gym" does fit that category. He does have very solid athleticism though, just not freakish like you think he is. He is also not quick enough to completely compensate for his lack of length and height against taller, just-as-quick PF's like Aldridge. What he does well is hustle, provide the athletic plays that Scola cannot (although Scola is deceptively agile/flexible and so creative he can get off shots that you wouldn't expect him to be able to do), and also stretch the defense somewhat out to 15-17 feet.
The only thing these guys have in common is their jump-shot as I mentioned earlier. Aldridge is a player that can create his own shot, whether it's in the low-post or in the high post. Landry is not capable of creating his own shot yet. From what I saw in the series, Aldridge is capable of making shots with hands in his face. Landry is not capable of doing that. Aldridge is capable of playing both high and low-post and has a very good array of post moves. Although Aldridge may be soft, Landry isn't. Landry is quite aggressive especially on the boards. Aldridge lacks a lot of aggression from rebounding and offensively at times.
I don't think there is as much a gap in talent . . .or even physical ability I think that they have DIFFERENT ability I think Carl may need to change his game more Carl seems . .. IMO . . the body type that can BANG more I think Carl has to the potential to be a BETTER post player than Aldridge and still keep a d*mn decent jump shot . . . Carl . . . seems to be a finesse player. . in a body of a bruiser Rocker River
Their jump shots are pretty different as well. From what I see, Landry leaves too much hang time on his jump shot, but he makes them anyways. Aldridge has a very silky pure mid-range jump shot. That being said, Landry is probably going to be that hustle, energy player for the rest of his career. While Aldridge is going to be a Top 5 Power forward in the NBA soon, when Duncan and Garnett retire. A player that Aldridge reminds me of a lot of is actually Dirk Nowitzki. Although Aldridge may not have his 3 point shooting, He does have a lot of things in common with him. I call Aldridge the Black Nowitzki. Aldridge does not use his size well enough and neither does Dirk. They are both just sub-par rebounders and defenders in the league. Dirk is a much more unstoppable scorer though, simply due to his work ethic and how much time he has put on his jump shot. Aldridge is a lot more athletic, but certainly doesn't use it enough.
Yeah there are some similarities. But Aldridge is a much better shot blocker than Nowitzki and more athletic in terms of getting loose balls and steals. If you look at their plyoff stats Aldridge faire almost equal and that is with 2 bad games added to the mix and no playoof experience. Aldridge will pass Nowitzki next year.
I think he HAD freakish athleticism. He was a beast for a good stretch last year before he got hurt. Whether he gets that back or not I don't know, but at least he's solid right now.
If he was a true freak athlete he would've been drafted higher-plain and simple. He has good power and explosion off two feet and has good time, along with solid quickness, but he is not the Josh Smith or Lebron like purebred, true "freak" athletes who can run, jump off either one or two foot, and is quick and flexible in the hips.
No way! Aldridge I believe is younger. And most importantly he has superstar potential. He has length, athleticism, and a sweet stroking shot.
